Well that was fun!
I did 1 run in qually of about 5 laps. Managed to pick up a slipstream and set a PB. Best place to it
1.49.86 during practicing all week I was not able to break the 1.50 barrier, so well chuffed with that. Sat and watched the rest of qually and I was comfortably ahead until about 5-10 mins left and Moses set 1.49.90, super close!
So onto the race, started in pole, I was expecting Moses to get away better in the Ferrari, but that didn't happen. I stayed in front until end of Lap 1 and I got a couple of wheel on the grass at clearways and Moses was through. I spent then next 5-6 laps chasing and eventually managed to make a pass on top straight, only to then miss the braking for druids and slammed the rear into the grass. Luckily no damage, but Moses was back through. So I got going again quickly and gave chase again. Then the next lap Moses went slightly off at druids and I was back through for the lead!
I managed to keep ahead this time, and we were both well ahead by this point just racing each other. I manged to pull out a 2 sec lead, but everytime I start to pull away I make a slight error somewhere and Moses is right on me again. So we continue on like this with 1-2 secs until about 4 laps to go and by this time the pressure just got to much for me and I make a big error at clearways again, spin off and have to recover losing about 10 secs. Moses was through again off into the distance. Undeterred I gave chase again, but on the very next lap I go off big time at druids and smash the back into the grass wall. This time there is damage so I just decide to take it steady last couple of laps and get home for second, and a good haul of points. We were about 40 secs ahead of the rest of the field so no dramas to get home for a comfortable second
Anyway, congrats to Moses, consistency, as ever, was key. You had it and I didn't, so very well done sir!
Looking forward to Hockenheim, I'm not overly familiar with this layout, so need a good chunk of practice on this one!
Thanks everyone for a great race, I was a trembling bundle of sweat at the end of that race!
Thanks to the mods and organisers for allowing us to do this. What better way to spend a Sunday evening
See you next time
