Moderator's Report

Summary
A win for Ricardo Valim da Silva in the Mercedes W196 SL with Chris Bull claiming the runner up spot in his Maserati 250F. A well-deserved third place for Moises Pereira in his Ferrari 555.

Server replay time: 0h01m32s

Lap 1 – Approach to Ostkurve – Albert Hallu, Cubbie Roo and Francesco Molteni
Francesco is ahead of Albert as they drive down the long straight towards the Ostkurve. Albert pulls alongside and side by side contact is made. Both drivers spin several times but their cars are undamaged and they can both continue. Cubbie Roo is following and is over 100 metres behind when the contact is made between Francesco and Albert. Cubbie passes Albert’s W196SL which is running backwards down the grass verge. However, Francesco’s Lancia has ended up sideways across the track and Cubbie cannot avoid it so he does the honourable thing by swerving off into the barrier. His car is wrecked and he is out of the race.

Cubbie did nothing wrong, in fact his driving was laudable. He was very unfortunate to crash out of the race and he must be complemented for his exemplary sportsmanship.

Francesco moved left whilst Albert was alongside and Albert moved right before he had completely cleared Francesco’s car. So both drivers share the responsibility for the contact.

Season 44 - 1955GP (Privateers) - Round 3 – Hockenheim
The third race in the 1955 Grand Prix series finds us at Hockenheim in Germany. In 1965, when the new Autobahn A 6 separated the village from the main part of the track, an updated version of Hockenheim circuit was built, which incorporated a new "Motodrom" stadium section. Two fast chicanes were added after Jim Clark was killed on 7 April 1968 in a Formula 2 racing accident.  A small memorial was placed at the site of his accident near the first chicane. In order to improve safety even further, the track was lined with crash barriers in 1970. But the track was still dangerous and claimed the life of Patrick Depailler in 1980. So in 1982, the first chicane was made slower and a third chicane was added at the Ostkurve (east curve). In the early 2000s, Formula 1 officials demanded the 6.823 km (4.240 mi) track be shortened and threatened to discontinue racing there.  So the state government of Baden-Württemberg secured the financing for a redesign by Hermann Tilke ready for the 2002 German Grand Prix. The new "Tilke Track" was not universally popular and many drivers preferred the long circuit. Sadly the old circuit was torn up and replanted with trees thereby preventing any chance of reinstating the long circuit for Formula 1 or indeed using it for historic car races.

Track Limits.  For the purposes of moderating, the track boundary will be the edge of the grass verge. This means the drivers will be able to use all the tarmac in the stadium section. Please check the rules regarding corner cutting (see last bullet point under the General section on the Racing Etiquette page) and the Penalty Guidelines for a bad rejoin.

Enjoyed that one, mostly because I finished without any contact or damage.
I was not on the pace of the faster people. Silva and Chris are another level, but I managed mid pack speed.

I saw the carnage in my mirrors, and I watched the replay. Hard to understand what really happened?
I had found that these cars like to not go in a straight line (or round corners, or brake...)
So I ran with a tight diff - 30/30 and it was better behaved. If Albert had not been slowed down
he would have been past, but I had enough laps, and a big enough gap to hold the place.

In practice I had several CTD while entering the stadium, so I added the extra files, and I had no
problem in the race. But the replay drops most of the time in the same place. I found using
the TV2 view reduced it.

Commiserations to Cubbie in particular. It's always a tragedy to be taken out by someone else's mess.  death

Congratz finishers! Ricardo and Chris were on another level yesterday.
I couldnt get the setup right on time the Super Squalo, was losing a lot of time on the third sector, also made a lot of driving errors. Passing the braking points and doing a visit to the grass on some laps.
Despite everything third is a good place, good points.

I wanted to ask, are the results of the 55s series going to be posted on GPL Weekly / formulado ?

Thanks!

I very much enjoyed that one!

Another close Qually with Moses, only 4 hundredths between us again! Realistically I was never going to match the Merc power. Especially as there were no tows to be had.... Smiley

Race start, I get off the line a little slower than I would have liked, got caught with low revs as the flag dropped, but it was ok. Moses got past by T1 and the slipstream began. I managed to get P2 back coming into the stadium section at the end of lap1. Then a lap or 2 later Moses went off at T1 and lost the slipstream. That left just myself and Ricardo duking it out for the lead.

I was quicker in the stadium section but if I managed to get past then Ricardo would just sail by on the straights. We went on like this for a number of laps until about lap 6 or 7 I think, when coming into the stadium I slipped up the inside, but just didn't have the brakes to keep the inside line, and felt like I had pushed Ricardo off. Looking at the reply, it looks like he was going off anyway, not sure, but anyhow I pulled over and gave the place back and we're off again in slipstreaming heaven!

Then on the next lap, again coming into the stadium I go off all by myself, it felt like I was in slow motion waiting for the car to stop on the grass with red brakes! Eventually got going didn't hit anything so no physical damage to the car. But I had lost a good 10secs and the slipstream was gone!

Spent the rest of the race in a lonely second, Moses was quite close at first but I manage to pull away. I think Moses was off in the grass a few times. So gave me plenty of breathing room.

Overall very enjoyable race and glad for another good haul of points. Looking forward to Indy and Reims for some more slipstream fun Smiley

Anyway see you all at East London. Not one of my favorite tracks. I have never found the flow around there.

Cheers,
           Bully.

It was really a well-contested race, between me and Bully, but the Mercedes was very fast on the straight and fragile in the stadium. When you gave me back the position I was going to make the turn calmly, when I looked in the right rear view mirror and saw you coming swaying I was scared there was some touch and I preferred to play on grass, thank you for fair play. Anyway, you did very well with the Masserati, it was a shame to have made a mistake, as it would be a great race until the end, congratulations to Moises who completed the grid and to all the participants , see you soon.
