Moderator's Report

Summary
A dominant win for Moises Pereira in a Ferrari 625. Francesco claimed the runner up spot in his Connaught with Matt Rowe grabbing a well-deserved third place in his Vanwall.

Server replay time: 0h05m22s

Lap 3 – Esses – Albert Hallu and David Rainier
David is ahead and is negotiating the second half of the Esses after taking a tight line on entry and consequently running slightly wide in the first section. He is on the grass and has to be gentle with the throttle, so he is not able to accelerate as quickly as he would have been had he remained on the asphalt (he is doing 35mph on the apex compared to the typical speed of 45mph). Albert is fast through the right-hand section and he tries to make the left hander but David is already on the apex and a rear end shunt ensues. David’s car is flipped over and he is out of the race. Albert can continue, seemingly unaffected.

David did nothing wrong. However, the lack of grip on the grass compromised his speed through the second half of the Esses.

Albert took the conventional racing line through the right-hand section of the Esses. However, he also ran slightly wide and was actually off the track when contact was made. Having committed to the corner, Albert couldn’t change his line. He was only travelling at 43mph when the contact was made so he wasn't carrying excessive speed. It would be harsh to penalise Albert for the shunt.

Season 44 - 1955GP (Privateers) - Round 4 – East London
The fourth race in the 1955 Grand Prix series finds us in South Africa. The race will be on the Prince George Circuit at East London. Opened in the 1930s, it hosted the South African Grand Prix in 1934, and again from 1936 to 1939 when racing was halted due to World War II. The original 23.4 km circuit was shortened to 17.7 km in 1936. It was further modified to meet the Formula One regulations in 1959 when the track was shortened again and built into a seaside amphitheatre. East London hosted three rounds of the F1 South African Grand Prix in the 1960s until the increasing power and speed of the cars meant that it became too small for Formula One. The race was moved to Kyalami. Tonight we will be using the 3.9 km long 1959 layout.

Yes it is. Looks like Bully has mistakenly set his practice server up with the 67 F1 cars instead of the 55 GP cars. I'm sure he'll notice that soon.

I don't like to see Hallu close in my mirrors so I let him go at the start.
2 laps later I overtook him ...but at the next turn he ended my race !

Sorry for whoever it was I hit from behind..  just had no brakes at all.. I stayed off the track and let all the cars get going again. ended up joining at the back after a decent 4th on the grid.

Really was taking care and watching my brakes but, I cocked up. bugger. I really dont like spoiling other peoples races.

Fran , you are so correct.  I also wonder why the Connaught or the Vanwall does not have slightly better brakes than the others.

I believe one of them was actually the first Grand Prix car to have Disc Brakes.  I dont think they were as good as anything that came later, but surely far better than the Drum braked cars.

well done pods, that was a nice finish for you too Fran. No engine blow ups this time well done.  Smiley

and to all the finishers. sorry for any one that didnt make it.  Seems a simple track, but not easy at all in the '55s .

Congrats Moises, Fran and Matt!

@Paul, that was Bernie on lap 4. From my perspective, at least both of you were able to continue, and you were both still faster than me even if your cars had damage.

Regarding the 55 mod brakes, maybe it was made by a right foot braker. Nothing against it, just a little humbling.

I am motivated to try the other cars in the future. I used the same car twice now because I have not had much seat time.

I was in doubt about what car to pick for this race. To go with Gordini or spend the credits and pick a better car. Decided to go with the Ferrari 625 as I like how she drives and didn't want to spend the rest of the coins.
Got a good setup, did some laps but couldn't match Ricardo Maserati for the Qualy. On the last minutes decided to go for somelaps with the Race fuel and had a surprise. Set my best lap and the car was handling better.
Oh Ferrari, sometimes they are strange.

As I felt that had a good car for the Race, I decided to be agressive on the first laps to get first position. I made it, overtook Ricardo and saw he made a mistake on hard braking point which put him in thid position. Quickly he was second again, and I saw that he was faster and closing the gap.
As he was decreasing the gap to less than 2 seconds, I made a mistake on The Esses and had a big corner cut, decided to let Ricardo go as there was a big gain margin in the cut.
After that he was increasing the gap and I decided that second place would make it but his name turned blue on pribula.
The Maserati engine gave up, after that just cruised the 625 to the racing end.

Difficult track to manage the brakes, was a good race.
Congratz everyone, see you in Indianapolis.

Congratulations Moises on the victory, I saw the time when you took the position back, thanks again. Maserti was really fast, it was a shame the engine couldn't handle it with 7 laps left, congratulations on the podium and to the finalists, see you in Indy

Was a fun race, I went off with no brakes left a couple of times, managed to stay in front of Paul at the end. Bully was faster in the Gordini
but had a couple of offs himself. One was shooting off trying to avoid contact a couple of laps from the finish. He must have been much
better at brake management, as he was braking later into Cocobana. For the next one It says Indianapolis (Oval) and there a few variants in the Track database
Can someone please say which download it is?

Many Thanks
Matt
