Moderator's Report

Summary
A dominant win for Moises Pereira in a Ferrari 625. Francesco claimed the runner up spot in his Connaught with Matt Rowe grabbing a well-deserved third place in his Vanwall.

Server replay time: 0h05m22s

Lap 3 – Esses – Albert Hallu and David Rainier
David is ahead and is negotiating the second half of the Esses after taking a tight line on entry and consequently running slightly wide in the first section. He is on the grass and has to be gentle with the throttle, so he is not able to accelerate as quickly as he would have been had he remained on the asphalt (he is doing 35mph on the apex compared to the typical speed of 45mph). Albert is fast through the right-hand section and he tries to make the left hander but David is already on the apex and a rear end shunt ensues. David’s car is flipped over and he is out of the race. Albert can continue, seemingly unaffected.

David did nothing wrong. However, the lack of grip on the grass compromised his speed through the second half of the Esses.

Albert took the conventional racing line through the right-hand section of the Esses. However, he also ran slightly wide and was actually off the track when contact was made. Having committed to the corner, Albert couldn’t change his line. He was only travelling at 43mph when the contact was made so he wasn't carrying excessive speed. It would be harsh to penalise Albert for the shunt.

Fran , you are so correct.  I also wonder why the Connaught or the Vanwall does not have slightly better brakes than the others.

I believe one of them was actually the first Grand Prix car to have Disc Brakes.  I dont think they were as good as anything that came later, but surely far better than the Drum braked cars.

well done pods, that was a nice finish for you too Fran. No engine blow ups this time well done.  Smiley

and to all the finishers. sorry for any one that didnt make it.  Seems a simple track, but not easy at all in the '55s .

Yes the disk brakes were better than the drum brakes, but the drum brakes were Race brakes with according size and cooling!
So they had not a big advantage, still engine and handling was the advantage.
The RL Mercedes mechanic said they never had a fading problem ...

Hey Everyone,
Meant to post earlier, but this week has been crazy!

I qualified in 5th, which was a pleasant surprise in the Gordini. I was expecting much worse.

Anyway, got a reasonable start, Gordini is not great off the line. I lost one place to Bernie's Maserati, but managed to get it back at the hairpin.

Then I am chasing Paul and Matt, Moises and Ricardo have driven off into the distance at this point. They were very fast here.

Somewhere Paul fell off at the hairpin , so now I am up to 4th place! Ricardo has also had an issue and slipped back to Matt, but gets ahead again and sets off up the road. Now I am chasing Matt and very slowly catching up.

Then Matt overcooks the last turn and I am up to 3rd place! I've no real expectation of catching Moise or Ricardo in the Gordini, so I try to settle into a nice pace and let the muscle memory do the thinking, rather than me!

I have quite a nice gap to Fran in his Connaught and it stays very consistently the same gap. All I have to do is drive a nice pace the rest of the race for a podium in the Gordini!

Then eventually I have an off at the hairpin and Francesco is past me. SO now back to 4th. I give chase, but we are both very similar in pace and I can't seem to gain any time, so I need to try and force a mistake.

Then around lap 20 or so, after slowly reeling in Francesco we are both coming to the hairpin, he has taken a wide line, and seems slow. But I was very hot and coming up the inside. I was never going to stop and I clips wheels with Fran, Luckily Fran gets away with no issues (Apologies Fran, my fault completely). By the time I re-join Matt has slipped past. He had been slowly creeping up on Fran and I.

At this point I realise that Ricardo has dropped out So I am still somehow 4th place. I set off after Matt to try and chase for the podium. I manage to close in on Matt and apply some pressure but then I have another off at the hairpin. So at this point I just settle for 4th place.

Overall, very happy with 4th place in the Gordini. Had I run the perfect race and not fell off so bloody much I could of had 2nd! But then what if's etc! Sill I saved a butt load of tokens and with Indy next they will come in handy!

Cheers everyone, see at Indy Smiley

Bully.
