Season 44 F1 1967 PRIVATEERS – Round 5 –  Zeltweg
The fifth race in the 1967 Privateers Grand Prix series finds us at Zeltweg in Austria, the original Österreichring. Built in 1969 to replace the bland and bumpy Zeltweg Airfield circuit, the track was known for being very fast, as every corner was a fast sweeper and taken in no lower than 3rd gear in a 5-speed gearbox and 4th in a 6-speed gearbox.  There are also noticeable changes in elevation during the course of a lap which means the downhill sections are even faster. Like most fast circuits it was a hard circuit on engines and even harder on tyres simply because the speeds were so consistently high. The first World Championship round to be held at the Österreichring was in 1970 and the race was won by Jacky Ickx, driving a Ferrari. His teammate, Clay Regazzoni, made it a Ferrari 1-2 by finishing second a mere 0.61s behind. Rolf Stommelen achieved his only podium finish, coming third in a Brabham-Ford. Local driver and championship leader Jochen Rindt started from pole position in his Lotus-Ford, but retired with an engine failure. It would turn out to be Rindt's final Formula One race start.

THERE ARE MORE THAN 19 REGISTERED DRIVERS IN THIS SERIES, SO :
The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Is anyone else experiencing CTD at the last corner?
I put a few laps in last week & all seemed ok for server test at initial walking/crashing pace, track was stable.

Today, at the last corner I had a CTD whilst sliding out/rear glancing the barrier.
This was repeatable twice by slowly passing the Elan banner & sliding the rear between the Pirelli & Martini banners,  whilst staying on-track.

Anyone else?

Did look, but could not see any track addons/updates.

EDIT: Although I'd previously downloaded v1.0,  I've downloaded it again & the track install .exe is named slightly differently & is about 4MB smaller.  Will install this version & re-test...

Dates in both readme.txt are the same, but the download from event/series page has a smaller .dat file  (& also contains ultra high-res as an optional extra).

There are several versions of the 1970 Österreichring/Zeltweg track. Some of these had problems. The latest one which matches the link in the race announcement should be OK. If you confirm there is a problem Dave, please let us know.

Perhaps a clean install of the track is advised to make sure any of the older versions are not picked up by mistake (assuming drivers have installed a previous version).

All seems ok with the oher/newer version 1.0 of the track (as pointed to by the download links).
The edge of track markers are also shorter, which reduces the feeling of driving down a tunnel  Smiley

Just for reference:
  • My original v1.0 installation had a 63 MB zeltw70.dat  (dated 28-Jul-2023) - CTD at last corner
  • My current v1.0 installation (from download links) has 40.5 MB zeltw70.dat  (dated 31-Jul-2023) - seems ok so far

If you have a 63MB .dat in your zeltw70 folder,  maybe download the track again & perform a clean installation  Wink

Yes, Zeltweg 70 is a different release from Zeltweg 71. Same layout so easy to learn, just different kerbs and braking point markers. It is prettier too  Grin

It was GPL Brasil's turn to pick the circuits for this season. So I can't comment on the reasoning but I quite like the track. However, it appears I'm in the minority  Roll Eyes

Glad to read Cookie's post. The 1970 tack is 3.5 - 4 seconds slower than the '71 version we have been using for a while.

May I suggest that after the race tomorrow when we have had the experience of a full race on this new track, that we provide some constructive feedback to the track builder via the comments feature on the GPL Track database. This is a new track and it is great to see the community volunteering to build new tracks for us all to enjoy. I'm sure some feedback on what was good and some measured constructive criticism of what could be better would be appreciated.
