SEASON 44 - 1967 F2 PROFESSIONALS Round 6 - InglistonIngliston (pronounced Inglestone) Racing Circuit was a 1.03-mile motor racing circuit built at the Royal Highland Showground at Ingliston, Edinburgh. The circuit was created by widening and linking the network of access roads at the venue which had previously been used exclusively as an agricultural showground. The first racing took place at Ingliston on 11 April 1965 and it quickly became recognised as one of Scotland's top motorsport venues. The first race was almost 10 years before Knockhill in Fife opened in 1974.Ingliston became infamous for its tight corners and plethora of obstacles such as trees and buildings close to the track and was therefore considered to be more hazardous than other similar facilities in the UK.There were extensive spectator facilities including a 5000-person grandstand which was built around the southern part of the track and thus named 'Arena'. The venue saw many famous drivers compete at races including the late Jim Clark, Jackie Stewart, Stirling Moss and, more recently, David Coulthard. The circuit has been described as a place where drivers learn how not to crash.

Unless you receive a better offer, I can have a go with UKGPL10 (although I can't see the password/you would have to let me know...) Cheers, Dave.

Thanks for stepping in and providing a server Dave
No worries. Hopefully everything was stable with both servers hosted from here. I've tuned into Dimitar's Twitch stream & his replay seems ok.

Grats to Yannick, who despite an early mistake found a way back to the front and to Tris who got his Brabham BT14 onto the podium anyone who made it to the finish deserves a medal IMHO. I think that Ingliston is just about one of the toughest circuits in GPL, probably even more so than Monaco. There is just no time to relax, even the "main straight" lasts only 2-3 secs before braking for the hairpin. Just time for a frantic look at prib/tyre temps/fuel etc. I don't know about other drivers, but I find that getting slightly off line for one corner affects the next 2 or 3 corners too, and conversely, nailing the perfect line and gearshifts through a corner will make the next ones faster and gain maybe 0.5 secs on the lap......which is why I probably did not make a 48sec lap last night. Like quite a few others I opted to save tokens and took the Fezza. Around here I did not need 5th gear and simply set the ratios to make a 4 speed gearbox. Some tweaking of the setup and brakes and we were good to go. I think I saw some altercations behind me in the first few laps and that allowed Yannick, Pat and myself to sneak away after Alain went off. I was able to live with the leader's early pace but felt very vulnerable running so close if they had an "incident", so I dropped back a little and tried to drive consistent laps up to half distance, just keeping the leading pair in sight. I am not sure how I managed to find myself on a clear track for so many laps?? but around Lap 20 I started to push and when Yannick and Pat encountered back markers the gap came down very quickly. I was just sizing up Pat, to see where I might squeeze a pass, when he went off and gifted me 2nd spot with Yannick not too far ahead. TBH I doubt that the Ferrari had the grunt out of corners to challenge him, but it might have been fun to try. Pat had a dose of the red mist and came steaming up to my gearbox in his Lola BMW just as I caught a pair of backmarkers having their own battle. I was not prepared to risk making a pass as they were clearly fully engaged and I did not want to throw my 2nd spot away. Around this time Pat vanished and I confess that I did not see him go, but it left me in a very safe 2nd place. Eventually any backmarkers allowed me through even if I had to wait for a few laps and I was able to roll in for a nice 2nd spot.

That was a fun race for me in the under-powered Ferrari. I'm very happy with a P5 against this opposition but was sorry to see Will spin off ahead of me early on and have to wait for an eternity before he could shift-r safely. That's another problem when racing at such a short track; waiting for the track to be clear before re-entering. I had fun along the way with Angex and was pleased the race was not the carnage which it so easily has the potential to be.
Thanks once again to Dave C for hosting at such short notice.

Your observation about Shift/R and the waiting time was very high on my radar going into this race. It is great being able to get a new car when you screw up, but the potential time lost in re-joining can drop you multiple places and passing here is almost impossible unless those ahead make a mistake. Then you have the problem of avoiding their mess. Something that I was unbelievably lucky with on 2 occasions last night.

It was a really fun race for me, with a great battle between Yannick, Evil and myself. The latecomers often made the difference at times, but it was difficult for them on this small track, I understand.
My engine broke towards the end, when I would have been happy with a podium finish behind Evil. On the subject of the shift/R, I didn't even want to do it, because as has already been said, I would have had to wait a long time, at the risk of creating a problem.
Congratulations on the podium!

I've not watched the replay yet so I don't know if I got in anyone's way when I was being lapped. However, I do remember watching my mirrors and pribulda on about lap 30 when I was dicing with Fulvio and the leaders were catching and about to lap us. Fulvio was all over my gearbox and Pat was leading Yannick. I was getting ready to move over at the right time when I saw Pat spin in my mirrors A lap or so later I managed to let Yannick through (who by now had Pat all over his gearbox) by moving over at the start of the "straight". If we did get in your way, I'm sorry Pat, but as you say this track is very tight and lapping is difficult.

No, no problem, Phil! It's just that we have to be careful when you catch up with the lappers, and on a small track, 1/10ths are expensive, but that's the game, I don't blame anyone!

Axel first slowed after the hairpin to let me pass but Fulvio moved to the opposite side of the track. I had nowhere to make the pass until Fulvio let me by going into the next corner. Then Axel moved to the outside of the last corner to let me pass. I chose not to risk taking both of us out since my normal line through the corner was from inside to outside which would have put me on a collision course with Axel. I could hear him but couldn't see him, so I decided to wait for a better section to make the pass. Axel was not to blame for me not passing, that was all on me. My one crash came when I saw a yellow at the exit of the chicane but I didn't slow enough to be able to avoid going off to miss a car trying to get going in the right direction. Again mostly my fault for not slowing down enough. By the time I could reset, I had already lost third place. Even with a little drama, this was a very fun race. Thanks everyone for the race!

One of the stupidest races I've ever done, I don't like such "Mickey Mouse" tracks at all because, as Clive said, you can only deep breathe for 2-3 seconds per lap at most. That really causes problems for an old man in the 8th decade I had a comfortable gap to Fulvio which I was able to manage over the last few laps as he was fighting with this other guy. But then Tom came into play, for whom I opened all the barn doors for almost half a lap expecting he will pass quickly and and I can go on, but he didn't (couldn't) use the opportunities until I was completely out of rhythm and hit the grass... I hadn't seen the action Fulvio had commited out of the hairpin, so was wondering what was going on. I had seen blue flags and had to let Tom by... What really p..d me were the comments after the race from people not understanding what had happened. I waited to comment until I had talked to Tom and understood how it went. PS it's the layout and kind of the track I have a problem with. The atmosphere, realism and the finish is superior made by Pete!!!

First of all, an apology to Tom, for not having calculated correctly to right my car with half a spin, and for that reason I made him lose control and forced him to shift R, fortunately he did not lose his 3rd position but the fight did damage him. for the 2nd place, once I realized what I did, I preferred to enter the pits and retire from the race, since this type of tracks are very, very dangerous, the attempt to overtake is only with the error ahead, Any small mistake that one makes is a chain reaction of accidents and that doesn't seem very good to me, I think I will stop running these kinds of tracks in the future, as Axel says for a guy from the 6th decade like me, it is very difficult to do something good on this kind of tracks. I'm sorry if I hurt any other driver, I didn't have time to look at the prebluda at all and as they say, you breathe 3 times per lap,... Sometimes these kinds of mistakes make me want to leave the camp, but I don't blame myself, a large part of it was this track, which in itself is very good but they are no longer for me. On the other hand I had a big fight with Alain, almost the entire race, until he lost control of his car and I couldn't avoid him, and that's when I later made the mistake with Tom...... anyway, nice fight alain.....
