Thanks, Dave. I know that Will and I can connect via Igor as well as directly but we're this side of the router.

Thanks for testing. Ironically, I now can't connect to the server for THIS race in the CANAMS Sad

I can connect to other servers on IGOR, but not this one. Not even via direct ip

Same here. I keep getting "Timed out" messages. I've checked that I have 60fps, tried direct connection but no success.

Me too. Perhaps Cookie has set the wrong maximum number of drivers or something. Never mind. Early night for me. See you next time

Pee & others - you aren't trying to connect with advanced trainer cars are you?
(From iGOR status, there is no max latency set;  max drivers is 20 / the usual look ok).

I'm not registered, didn't try connecting.

EDIT:  actially, just seen the remaining time status hasn't changed in iGOR (still says 25:13) so maybe something is going on.

I get "Timed out" messages at least 10 times before I could connect ...

That race was a learning exercise Roll Eyes. The start was a bit hectic, I was following Tris on the warm-up lap when he seemed to clip Doni who spun. I stopped OK but it was the tightest part of the track and unfortunately the cars behind were unsighted and I got rear-ended. The car flew into the air and miraculously landed on its wheels so I continued in the hope that no damage had been done. I was lucky enough to recover my rightful starting place on the run down Conrod Straight. I picked up a couple of places when cars ahead went off but as soon as the tyres were up to temperature I started to lose the car under braking. I lost it at Murray's Corner 2 or 3 times and found myself down in about 8th place. I decided I was being too aggressive on the brakes so I started to drive like I was going to Sainsbury's to do the weekly shop. I stopped crashing and slowly reeled in the cars ahead. I had great battles with Tris and Doni and in the final stages I closed in on Fulvio but I didn't have enough time to attempt an overtake. I crossed the line on his gearbox. Grats to Evil on the win and to Yannick for a very close second!

Sorry for your troubles, but I have no idea why you all could not join  Roll Eyes

I still suspect that GEM+ did not set your .exe to normal not AT mode...
Try again now I restarted the server for the next hour Roll Eyes

Had you tried before the race to connect to the server in the afternoon?

That has to be the closest finish ever in a UKGPL race, 0.001 sec and what looks like 15mm

I have been refreshing like a madman because that finish with Clive had me so excessively excited. One thousandth of a second.

One-frickin'-thousandth of a second!

For this race it would be between me and him, and in the first few laps we set the pace, driving low 2:02s. But then Clive let me through. I was a bit baffled by it. I certainly wasn't that much quicker. The big reason I was properly keeping up was the tow. After just driving two laps I saw the pace dropped by 1.5 seconds and it made way more sense for us together that he stayed out in front with his +100 BHP stronger engine. And the pace picked up again.

Few laps later, Clive tried again to let me through, which I refused. If I were in front it'd have given the chance for driver in 3rd, maybe 4th, to get a chance of catching up. The main thing for me early in the race was to build up a gap, the racing coming later.

With just a few laps to go I was still in Clive's tail and the gap was substantial enough that I began to properly push. Passing would be very difficult, but if I could take advantage out of a mistake out of a slow corner. That would be my best chance, as the low speed acceleration of his powerful car was the weak point.

It just so happened on the final corner that he somewhat overshot it and I took the chance to get him on the line. And as the flag fell, there was no fingernail between us! The moment had me so thrilled, we were actually looking exactly side by side. I thought we were witnessing the most BIBLICAL thing in the 26 years of GPL's lifespan... only to be one-thousandth, one-frickin'-thousandth, being between me and Clive.

Somehow, this has disappointed me a little. I kind of hoped that that one-thousandth of a second was not there. That someone would have to come up during the podium ceremony with a big chainsaw and cut the first place trophy in half and split it between the two of us. I really had my heart holding out for that to happen. But unfortunately it was not to be...

Great race, Clive. I had a wonderful time and a fantastic memory to come with it. Thank you.
Well done to all finishers. See you next race! Smiley

Grats to all who finished and to Tom for the final podium place.
I feel almost guilty taking the win when the margin was so close. Overnight I was hoping that it would be a complete dead heat ( if that is possible within GPL software?) and I was going to propose that we added 50+43=93 and divide it in half so that we got 46.5 points each lol.

Being completely honest here, I took that insane Lola Ford 427 for this track and fully expected it to be one of the results that I would drop with a DNF or very low placing. The car was a nightmare to control in the twisty bits or under braking, but boy oh boy did it fly down the straights. Pole position was not on my script and came as a shock. A car with just 2 gears and about 1,000,000 HP that handled like a super tanker should not have been there!!

If Phil thought that he had issues braking at the end of Conrod Straight with his nice little car...try it in this monster!! I found it impossible to brake after the crest and make it around the final corner. I had to apply a good stomp on the brake pedal before the crest, lift off and then carefully balance the pressure to avoid lock ups in order not to become a pile of twisted metal.

Huge kudos to Yannick for a tremendous race. Once we had completed the first few laps and the tyres were warmed I could see that we were only just easing away from the rest of the field and then something happened and we were 500mtrs clear. By then it was obvious that I had a big speed advantage on the straights, but Yannick was better on the twisty bits and under braking and able to close any gap. The battle lines were set!!!
Yes, I did try and get Yannick to take the lead, just to relieve the stress of being chased by a very fast driver in a much more nimble car lol, but huge respect to Yannick for not trying a dive bomb down the inside at the heavy braking points. Some drivers may not have been able to resist that opening. Roll Eyes

With 5 laps to go it was clear that the race would be decided on the last lap and most probably the last corner. If I could carry good pace onto the Conrod Straight and open the gas, the gap I could pull should have allowed me to cleanly negotiate the final corner and cross the line first. Simples  Wink
Of course, the more you focus on something like that, the more likely you are to screw it up...and I did! It was my error in that final corner that gave Yannick the chance to steal the win and he grabbed that chance with both hands. With only 2 gears ( and 1st gear good for 150mph!!) acceleration was not my most potent weapon and when I saw his car vanish from my mirrors and pull alongside, I thought he had pulled off  a brilliant move. I had my right foot nailed down waiting for all those horses to wake up, but if I'm honest I thought that he had just done it as his acceleration was much better than mine.
I have been involved in some close GPL finishes before, but 0.001 secs is insane after 23 laps of racing!!

If you want to see how lucky I was take a look at the Stream on Twitch from my cockpit, complete with mumbled curses!!

Almost certainly the worst drive I've put up in many a moon.  Maybe ever.  I qualified reasonably well but soon, everything went into the toilet.  Bot drilled me in the tail on the pace lap and I suffered damage in my spin.  Nice going, Bot.  Honestly, if stupidity were a virtue, this guy would be a saint.  Considerable mayhem resulted for others following thanks to this.

On the first lap at speed, I bungled the braking coming off Conrod and hit Ricky in the tail.  We both spun off.  So sorry for that, Ricky.  Perhaps the damage I received on the pace lap contributed to that error.  Upon recovery, I was ahead of Ricky but guilt compelled me to ease off and let him pass cleanly along the Mountain Straight.  Over the coming laps, I made some progress and stuck with Ricky as we picked off a few places.  However, I was still making some horrid mistakes and frankly, I was not really in the game after the pace lap incident.  Mid-race, I just settled back and cruised it in.

Noted quite a few '64' laps for my fellow competitors with most being registered up on the Mountain.  After witnessing the appaling corner-cutting by some of the chicane at Suzuka in our F2 race, I guess that I just have to accept that some of us are ethical, some not.

Ripper of a finish with the smallest possible MOV in Evil Clive's favour.  I still recall the GP67 race at Estoril some years back where Clive and I staged a photo finish but not this close.  Nice job by Tom to round out the podium after the pace lap nonsense.

BTW, Bot performed two resets so...  'Hasta la vista, baby.'

I'm sorry to have missed this. I reckon that I could have sneaked in that gap and taken 2nd from Yannick.  Roll Eyes
