The 1965 season was the last to use the controversial 1500cc formula which had begun after 1960, to the initial advantage of Ferrari. The 1965 cars are smaller than the 1967 cars and have less torque and hence more grip. It was claimed that they 'cornered on rails', however this allowed the Grand Prix series to retain the use of circuits which were otherwise to prove extremely dangerous.
The 1965 cars are ideal for those new to GPL as they allow the tracks to be learnt in light reliable cars, however these are also full Formula One cars, and quite fast.... Jim Clark won the 1965 East London Grand Prix from pole in a Lotus. His qualifying time was 1'27.2.

Unfortunately the current 65 mod download does not have default setups. Default setups for all the cars and tracks that are likely to be used can be downloaded from
http://www.neurology-crew.com/gplserver under '65 setups'. Note that you will have to add enough fuel for the race, whether short or long!
Schedule and race length Season 16My current preference is to use the original tracks without Kyalami, Monaco and the Nurburgring. East London would be used instead of Kyalami and the other track would be Brands Hatch. I'd add the default setups for Rouen, Mexico and Mosport to the existing ones.
The alternatives are to use more add-ons, as in my initial proposal, or a different track to Brands Hatch as the other add-on. As this is the beginners it would seem likely that the original tracks will be the only familiar ones, however Snetterton and Albi of the addons are especially good beginners tracks and were used for F2 in 1965, as was Solitude, another popular addon. Hockeheim and Imola of my original choices weren't used for major races until 1967 and 1970 respectively.
While the current format of two short races is suitable for fun races, int long is normal for leagues and int short may get less satisfying after a while. Also, its important that beginners learn to start without problems and the two-race format doesn't encourage that. The cars are not designed for 1/6 fuel cold tyre racing starts, and it is even possible that they are more stable at the start with more fuel.
