Some of you will doubtless be aware that Season 16's  setup is slightly different.

We now have Div 1, and Clubmans running on alternate Sundays, with the new Historic 66's on Tuesdays alternating with the 65 Novice and Amateurs.

To replace the Masters series we now have a series of Inter League Challenge races, where we at UKGPL take on teams from a wide spectrum of enthusiasts and aliens from other GPL leagues.

Dave (Jack O'Farrell etc etc) has set up a fixture list which is shown below.

The first of these matches is scheduled for next Sunday against Trellnet and we need a team of 9 drivers to represent UKGPL.

So can we have volunteers placing their names here please and chassis preferences ( although I cannot guarantee to satisfy everybody's wishes in that regard   Roll Eyes )

InterLeague Series

The Interleague series will replace the Masters series on Sunday night for the fastest UKGPL drivers.  While our drivers will still be able to compete against each other in Division 1, it seemed better to also seek fresh challenges for this season.  Each race will require us to field a nine-car team against nine drivers from another league, a total of eighteen cars on track.   Whether using the original carset or the 66 mod, each team will also be required to field a representative set of chassis- these are the suggested teams:

67s

one Lotus
one Eagle
one Ferrari
one Brabham
one Honda
two Coopers
two BRMs

66s

two Brabhams, one BT19 and one of the BT11 versions
one BRM, driver to choose between P261 and P83
one Cooper
one Eagle, driver to choose between T1F and T1G
one Ferrari, driver to choose between 246 and 312
one Honda
one Lotus, driver to choose between 43 and either of the 33 versions
one McLaren

Further rules will be agreed on a race-by-race basis, but the points for places rules that we used against GBGPL will be a guide.

Once a team captain has been appointed for a race he will select the team and chassis, on the basis that we will field the fastest team that we are able to for all the races- while against GBGPL we had to compromise slightly as it was organised so quickly, all these races have been agreed some time in advance.

These races have been agreed so far:

DATE                DAY       VENUE           MOD         OPPONENTS

Me me me!

Cooper probably best for me - I really like the Eagle but that would be expected to be at the front so I should take the slower car and mop up points by being steady.

By the way - how do we tell who is on which team in the race? Do we have team colour helmets?

As the slowest Div 1 driver I'll make up the numbers if we don't get a full team of fast drivers.  I'll take any seat that is going spare.

Thanks Art and Phil...that gives us 4 plus me if we are desperate  Undecided.

We need some more volunteers for this as you will have next Sunday free without Masters League to worry about. Cheesy

I believe Lorenzo intends to join from what I understood yesterday in post-race chat.

Thanks Hristo Wink  just a few more and we might have a respectable team. Does anyone have any idea about the quality/speed of Trellnet? are up against a group of whizz merchants or are they human? Roll Eyes

Hi guys!

I'm sorry but i'll not race for Ukgpl oops
I had told Clive ( The Good) that i would have defended Glady's honour , and because the Interlegues are running on Sunday i have to make a choice......
Ready for the fight?

Cheers

I'm not sure that these teams have to be mutually exclusive.

Obviously when it comes to defending Glady's honour against UKGPL then
Nat Wald
Graham Poole
Ken Murray
Bernie Darwin
Ian Stanley
Kevin Williams
Gasper Lednik
David Randall
+me
have answered the call.

Hristo did sign up but felt that BREASTS were too strong and has yet to decide who he will drive for.  (Alonso Syndrome)

If these "matches" were part of a league then obviously each league would require an exclusive deal with its drivers.  Since they are all UKGPL v Someone Else, the above talent is presumably free to drive for UKGPL for these "lesser" battles?   Grin

Quite correct Clive.

As things stand each of these races is a "one off challenge".

It is Ukgpl vs ? every time. I do not think the intention is for UKGPL to keep the same 9 drivers for the whole series, in fact I hope that all those who wish to drive for UKGPL will get the opportunity at least once.
It also means that drivers can be nomadic and appear for UKGPL one week, and actually race against UKGPL in the following race.

IF, (and it is only an "if" at this stage) this series proves to be a popular success, then maybe next year there is a chance of a proper league with fixtures arranged between all of the leagues and a point scoring table and championship, but that is for next year.

So, Lorenzo could choose to drive for UKGPL in the race against Trellnet and later, when UKGPL is racing Breasts, he could opt to drive for them.

I think this seasons fixtures will show the feasability and/or problems in running a full International League Team Championship, and it is aimed at retaining the interest of those looking for somewhere to test themselves against different opposition.

Okay I've set up a race thread for the race against Trellet- please note the early start time, this is because of a MotoGP race later that evening, but also the start times for these races can be expected to vary because they are international.

As far as I'm aware there isn't a discussion about a league between the clubs, and I would hope that all ukgpl drivers would be available to race for us, unless we were racing another league that they happened to be a member of.

A league might be an option with more cooperation between the clubs , but then so would restoring divisions that involved less of an ability range.

Well if that's the case, count me for both BREASTS and UKGPL, except when the two are going versus each other, then I'll take UKGPL side to balance things out a bit.  laugh
