Moderator's Report

An excellent race from John in the Cooper- he was obviously inspired by the controversial addition of debutant Natan in the Lotus. There was some good clean close racing down the order- though somehow it all escaped me.

Peter did well enough to deserve a mention, though he shouldn't have been in the pits at all. I'll try to sort out whatever's causing him to drop from 3ukgpl for the next race.

Lap 1 Hairpin

Paul approaches the hairpin about 10-15mph faster than the cars ahead and consequently rams Bernie. Bernie later makes slight contact with Geoff.

Paul then slows and drops to last as he allows Bernie to retake the place so I've waived the one place extra penalty for a Lap 1 incident.

L1 Peralta

Peter is slightly wide and then slows unexpectedly when turning out of the Peralta. Paul, who wouldn't normally be behind him at his stage, runs into his side.

Both drivers then seem to have heated arguments with their mechanics- Peter spends a long time in the pits with his, while Paul simply rams the pits at 90 degrees in an 'unorthodox' sng....

L20 Various corners

Bernie spots Ian passing Geoff on one side, and there appears to be room on the other, which is just too tempting. The corner arrives too early for him though, and he cuts it rather drastically, arriving unexpectedly in front of Geoff, who collides with him. Normally GPL would have black-flagged Bernie due to checkpoints. Since this was an opportunity to overtake, just poorly executed, it is only a 1 place penalty and I've waived the associated yellow card points.

For an encore Bernie slows a couple of corners later apparently to allow Geoff to have the place back, Geoff has to take to the grass to avoid him and then collides with Bernie.

Bernie performs his sng for the reset before the finish.

If there's fewer drivers for East London we'll revert to a single grid.  I chose East London as its both historic and easy for novice drivers.  I'm surprised that it's more unpopular than two more usual UKGPL tracks, Albi or Snetterton, though...?
Hm, Snetterton unpopular? In NGPLS it was one of the most popular tracks, despite being flat as a pancake. It gave very good races, and it requires a nice variety in techniques to get through the curves. In some ways I feel that it resembles Silverstone. It has a pretty fast 90 degrees T1 and it's got a sort of a complex before a long straight. Still I find Silverstone's curves being more "stereotypic" than Snetterton's. For this reason I find Silverstone a bit boring compared to Snetterton, which is one of my favourite tracks. Besides, Snetterton was my first green track, so I guess that makes it mean something special to me. Smiley

Talking 'bout East London: I haven't driven it that much, so I'm not sure how I feel about it. I won't be getting much chance to practice either, since me and my little family is moving the next week. I'm not even sure if I'll get our ADSL up and running on the new place in time for the race. Sad
