Moderator's Report

Congratulations to Storm for a well-deserved first UKGPL win from pole to flag, under pressure from first Clive and then Tim. Clive also deserves credit for his excellent race in the BT7, with Soggies fans (are there any?) anticipating with relish that he will eventually move to the more competitive BT11 next season.

Server replay time: 0h09m41s

L6 Stowe

Nicky lost control to the inside and there was nowhere left for Natan to avoid him. Natan had several full spins, but the cars following avoid him.

Natan then made a peculiar pit stop. I would have allowed a free reset for this incident as it wasn't Natan's fault. However, if a stop-and-go had been required or wanted, the procedure is to reset and stop-and-go in the pits later- as Natan did for the engine he destroyed some laps on.

Server replay time: 0h12m18s

L8 Copse

Burt lost control under braking on the inside line and collected Ian on the outside. Ian is allowed his free reset, and Burt sportingly waited for him- though it cost him a place to Steve Bucket.

Server replay time: 0h18m29s

L12 Maggotts

Clive and Tim had a magnificent fight throughout the race, with this the only occasion they collided.

Tim attempted to outbrake Clive into Copse and kept the inside up to Maggots. He was slightly ahead when Clive moved into his half of the track to get a better line into the corner.

However, I've called this a racing incident because there was no contact on the server replay. Also, at the risk of Loot's wrath for using an Americanism, there is an element of 'shit or get off the pot' when a driver attempts to continue a passing attempt from Copse into Maggots, given the extra difficulties with sight lines in sim racing.

I tried the infamous and much trumpeted Steve Cloyd's setups over the weekend as I had lost all of my setup info in a computer crash and although his replay promised a time of 1:31 I was struggling to get below 1:35 however I drove the thing. Plus I discovered, that as it was a "hot lap" setup when I used it in anger for more than 5-6 laps the tyres were useless.

I used a Cloyd setup but had to change it for the same reasons, the melting tyres.

I got off the the line well as usual but committed myself to a gap that was not quite Honda sized and took Norbert out who hit somebody else. Sorry to both of you.

Exiting Copse I thought I left a boxed in Geoff enough room on the outside, and my biased opinion of the replay would confirm it, but we touched and while I continued unabated Geoff had to deploy his chute to ensure a safe landing. A shame as he had qualified so well.

Sorry Geoff.

I took a SnG for my trouble on L1 then settled into chasing down the pack.

I had about 6 laps behind Pete Maestro and we got into a decent tete a tete. I passed him with style and grace into Stowe then a lap later ran wide at Club and he returned the honour. I was braking later than him at a few places but didn't want to take a lunge at it and have another SnG so, not done with him I caught him again and waited until he ran wide at Copse and sneaked through.

I'd lost a bit of time behind him, a second a lap perhaps and Norbert caught me briefly seeking revenge for his start line pirouette but a little deep breathing and relaxation, and the lack of a Brabham in my braking zones allowed me to get away. My last 9 laps were all consistent 1:35s with a 1:36 thrown in and I was catching an allegedly cruising Steve Bird, but I could sense the fear in him as I ran out of laps.

I finished a hard fought 7th and can't have too many complaints as the Novices field seems to be improving somewhat with a lot of faster guys ahead of me.

I'm rather disappointed with my result.

I was 2 sec slower from my normal pace. Probably I was to nervous about my first League race in GPL.

Hope to do better at Brands Hatch;)

Cheers

I used a Cloyd setup and my tyres were fine.  Huh

I did increase top bu a couple of clicks for the sake of engine preservation, although I probably did more damage on the way in to Woodcote every now and then when my feet and hands got out of synch.

Brake bias was about 48% as I recall, which helps when trying not to cook the fronts.

Yep!  Pokey motor like that is bound to shread the tyres.

Must be a struggle taming a beast with all that grunt.

LOL
Just looked at the analyser report.  Might have been sharp stones in the grass in your case.  Grin

Nah, you're just too slow, Clive.  Grin

Anyway, I did a bit better than on Rouen, thanks to the team manager firing the manager of fuel consumption calculations. before the race I had a high 1:33 as a PB, and the first qualifying lap brought me a promising 1:35.11, but I struggled to get in a clean lap after that, so the time stayed on the time board for half the qual. Still it kept me on pole for about ten minutes, I guess, before I was pushed down to eighth. Then I managed to get a time below 1:35, and climbed a few spots. Pushed a few more laps, and managed a 1:34.11 which gave me a fourth spot, just a hundredth of a second behind Geoff on third. Sam was on second, and Ginsters on first.

The start was great, both for me and Sam, in contrast to Ginsters, who had a really bad start, and had to fight his way up the field before starting hunting us down. Sam pulled away slowly, and I was settling in for keeping my laps as steady as possible and hope that I could keep Ginsters behind when he eventually got past the rest. Then Sam spun in Beckett's! I couldn't manage to avoid him, but managed to slow down enough to just give him a nudge. I managed to get going again before the rest of the field caught us, except Clutch, who sneaked by on the grass, so I was still in second.

I slowly hauled him in, and on the next lap I got past him in Club corner, and I was in the lead! But Ginsters was behind me now, so now was the real test for me. I managed to keep the gap at about one second for a few laps, but then I turned in to early in Abbey, and lost control. Ginsters got past, together with Pete, Clutch and Sam. Sam and Clutch faught for third, and I stayed behind. Then Sam spun again, and I could start hunting down Clutch. Clutch was closing in on Pete, so I hoped to get past both pretty quickly. I passed Clutch in the Club corner, like last time, and pushed to catch Pete.

A few laps later he had a bad entrance to Stowe corner, and I could pass him pretty easily. I then struggled a bit to pull away from him, but I finally managed to leave him behind. Ginsters was now so far ahead that I just settled for second. All I could hope for now, was Ginsters making a mistake, so i could put some pressure on him. Then Sam appeared in my mirrors...

I was really concentrating now, but still he slowly closed the gap. I was determined to keep him behind me. Okay, he was faster than me, but not enough to get past if I just could keep concistent and getting the corners right. Then I missed at Abbey again! Sam got past, and there was nothing I could do now to regain second position. Now I had a few really bad laps, and Pete and Clutch was closing in on me now. Luckily I managed to get one good lap towards the end that widened the gap, so I got breathing space to secure the third place.

Grats to Ginsters and Sam. You earned the podium places, although the friggin' Abbey corner cost me at least the second place. If I hadn't missed that, i might have had enough gap to keep Sam behind until the end of the race. Ginsters was so fast, I doubt it I could keep him behind anyway.
