Well, I have never been so maligned !!! Shocked Shocked

Only a senior minister with years of experience in HM Government could ever spin the facts in such an outrageous way,  so as to put the blame upon the poor little 2 litre driver.
The 2 litre driver is obviously greatly socially disadvantaged, and in need of all the help he can get. To apportion blame upon him for merely having the temerity to follow the gas guzzling limousines of the uber-affluent reeks of class discrimination.
After all, these poor trodden down waifs have to run their cars on re-cycled bicycle chain oil, that they collect from the cold cobbled streets on winters nights. It takes these brave souls months to accumulate a pint of fuel to run their ecologically sound cars in competition with those polluting behemoths and all you can say is.... "he hit me"........Huh

.to a rising chorus  miners choir humming in the background....and a single plaintiff violin

Its the same the whole world over,
It's the poor what gets the blame,.................
fades to a black and white photo of a young lad in short trousers, with his soapbox racer which has a bent wheel.

And there m'lord and members of the jury rests the case for the defence!!.

Think you have been watching too much Rumpole!  Grin

Not sure if Mike James has the 69 mod set up on his server (5.UKGPL).

Yes Phil, I've got all the mods installed including the night mod, and the commonly requested tracks.

I've got VROC installed too but haven't hosted on it yet so that needs testing sometime.

Sorry about not having loose grids on gents.  Thought I'd installed them Sad.

There was quite a bit of warp tonight.  So it looks like my server isn't up to hosting the 69 mod.  What were other people's connections like?

This was a fun race to gauge interest for next season.  Sure was fun, these things take some hanging on to!

Realise its just a test but I still feel a little disappointed.

Quali was very tricky as cars were warping here, there and every bleeding were. Me nerves were shot. Chuffed with a pb right at the end though. Sorry to all for start Lips Sealed Thought I had got away with it but got clattered by some unlucky punter. Peeved at the time but perked up by realising it would make for some good fights coming back through a little. Turned back to peeved again as every car I caught up started warping and close racing was impossible. Delighted not to clatter anyone in the circumstances.

Like the 69 cars but in all honesty I like all the ones I've tried so far Smiley Would happily race them again if the lag could be largely eliminated.

I'm with Ginsters on that one.  The warp spoilt it.  I don't know if the warp was 69 related or just down to Phil's connection on the night?

If we do a season I would prefer one without too many out of the way places.  You know the ones, they may not have strange sounding names but you can bet your last quid that there won't be any setups for them either.

I nipped past Ginsters when the flag dropped but took a warp-smack for my troubles that left me fighting to stay off the grass for most of the way to the first corner.  That meant staying wide and letting Nicky through, which proved to be a bit of a problem for me later.  All academic as I went for a trip to the dunes at Jan de Wyker and undid all my good work.

After that I spent all my time catching Nicky and then throwing the car on the grass.  With Nicky's warpy Ferrari dancing about in front of me I needed to be able to effectively take Tunnel Oost flat with my eyes shut if I were ever to be close enough at the beginning of the straight for a passing move.

On each occasion it was only a matter of time before I messed up Jan de Wyker again.  Apologies to Natan for being parked in the middle of the road when he cam over the crest.  I just couldn't get out of the way in time.

Practice was disappointing as 2 secs slower than offline, found it crowded on such a short twisty track.
Anyway blew the engine after a few laps and realised I need more long distance practice re lifting off properly, not such a worry in the 65's. Decided, if it blows so soon, I could find a long trail of cars behind me who couldn't get by so gracefully retired  Smiley
That said really enjoyed the 69's and if I can pull my time down a few more seconds would be interested in a 69 season. I am improving and would only join when I know I won't be messing up races for the front runners.

PS: no warp at all...

Leaving the lag to one side, I really enjoyed driving the 69 car. I have lots of sim racing experience in downforce cars and once I had straightened out the default setup it felt like a cross between GPL 67 and the single seaters in Live For Speed (specifically FO8 if anyone has it). You could rotate it easily making it nicely chuckable but in the high speed the downforce lets you lean on the tyres more and it seemed to respond well to my LFS "Busy Wheel" driving style.

"Good Job!" to whoever did the 69 mod.

Makes more sense to have a 69 league next season in place of the 66 one. Apart from the huge draft available 66 has nothing you can't get from 65s or 67s. If UKGPL does do a  69 league next season I hope we include some twisty tracks, not just big fast ones like Solitude. Would be interested to see if we can solve the lag issue.

Speaking of which, I understand that we run these races on people's domestic connections. Is there no possibility of sorting out a dedi host? If it got rid of the lag I would gladly throw a few quid in.

The download on the site doesn't work.

EDIT: Ok, Geoff told me the server where the mod is hosted is down. I guess I'll be missing this, have fun.

Here's the full mod for anyone that needs/wants it.

Or more to the point - What speed are the domestic connections in question?
I have 10meg here (probably more now as they're always upping it) and my big games rig is sat unused due the windows XP/sound issues. GPL runs perfectly on it but is unplayable thanks to the audio, if I should prove to have a significantly faster con then I'll be willing to try and get the bugger to run as a dedi server  Smiley

Re. the racing: Great fun! Shame I decided to go make sandcastles instead of fighting for second with stormcloud, but other than that I really enjoyed myself.
Was suprised at my pace as I was basically running the stock McLaren setup with slightly gears and brake balance!  angel

Just a shame about the lag

 Smiley Smiley Smiley Grin

That was big fun , apart from these extreme lag off course .
Had to apologies  on kicking Phil at Hugenholzbocht , my fault.

Well , I really do like the 69 mod ,still 65 is my favourite  one. And if slipstream will be available for 65mod ,it becomes perfect.

But back to 69mod theme ;

I don’t think those extreme lag and warping we actually did have last night is specifically mod related.
Did join an 69 league for off about 2 years. Afaik those servers were all simply single home PCs and connection quality was on same  good level as like the 65 race we have here at ukgpl.

So I can imagine there is no need to rent a server`s place had to be paid for.

Good question by FMG  , whats the specs of last night server ?

My specs are :  down 10.331 kbit/s    (1.291 kByte/s)
                         Upload 827 kbit/s          (103 kByte/s)

So guess to worth on the upload side , to set up an home-server myself.

But I could try if you want too. Would need some assistance on how to do proper then.

@ FMG , what kinda soundcards you tried ?
to me  Creative Soundblaster X-Fi Fatal1y`s extremeGamer pro cures all my GPL sound probs. ( running XP SP3  )
did run through nearly  all hints before without success.
Bloody disgrace not using ya Gamers PC .

My non-games pc is hardly a slouch  Wink
3500+ Athlon64, 4gig of RAM, Nvidea 7800GT, original SB Audigy running Win2K SP4. It's on 2000 for all the older games I have that don't get on too well with XP on the big rig Smiley

For me installing GPL on the 'slow' pc was far less hassle than trying to get the games rig to work properly with it, and I see no drop in performance  Grin

Hmm, didn't go well at all.  My driving was poor.

Sorry to anyone who I 'rejoined' in front of.  I was trying to be careful and keep an eye for a gap on pribluda.  On 2 occasions it showed me a gap that wasn't there and I ended up clipping a car as I rejoined.  I think on both occasions the victim got away with it, but probably were cursing me.

Enjoy the 69 mod.  Look forward to a few more chances to get to grips with it.  Thanks for organising and hosting etc etc.

I guess I was just lucky Roll Eyes

I got one ( lucky)  clear run at a quali lap and managed to nail a quickish one that got me pole position...which I did not expect given the times that others were posting.

Pole position luckily gave me a clear track into T1.

Ginsters (luckily for me) bogged down and held everyone except Natan back for a few seconds.

Then Natan appears to have had an incident which ( luckily) left me well clear and able to relax and concentrate on just maintaining a comfortable gap to 2nd spot.

Luckily I did not have to deal with the warp issue except when lapping and those guys were good enough to move over and allow me clear passage.

Luckily the car and the gearing I was using meant that I did not need to stress the engine and was able to pace myself to the flag.

Luckily, no-one got close enough to put me under pressure once Natan dropped back and I seemed to be able to manage the gap back to Tim.

I think these 69 cars offer something a little different from the other mods in terms of grip etc, but they do seem to need very precise control to extract the best performance. So if I can get some "precision" from my local shop I might be ok!!.

Seriously though, I hope we can eradicate the warp issue and get some good close racing and not only on the speed bowls, but also on some more challenging circuits where the wing/grip/setup will allow more variety of choice in downforce vs speed. then we might find some very interesting battles.
