Hi,
I would like to join this fun race if it is possible. Hopefully, I'll manage to get GPL run in online.  Smiley
The more the merrier - if you get any online problems post here and someone should be able to help you. Also worth checking at RSC/SRMZ

Hristo,

There is a drag factor in using higher wing settings, but for anyone who needs to concentrate more on staying on the track and not having a tricky handling car, they are a better option especially round Lesmo and the Parabolica, where you are most likely to go off.

With the slipstream model in the 69 mod the extra drag from the high wings only affects you if you are leading a group of cars.

I have found on mist tracks high wing settings are not a disadvantage. However the banking makes the 10K a track with a very long almost flat out run, so the more experienced can experiment with low or even 0 wings, and then cope with the handling round the twisty bits.

A small professional tip............don't drink Red Bull before a 69 race because extra wings will screw your setup Roll Eyes

Thanks, Mike, I suppose if I run a slower car and it has much of a power disadvantage there would be no choice but to run less wing. Not that I have much clue about the top speed differences for these cars, so I might settle on a middle ground like the Ferrari.

Evil, luckily I can't afford to drink red-bull.  Cheesy

Just in case anyone (like me) didn't realise... you can get clear mirrors for the 69 cars by copying the mip files from the "clear_mirror" folder into your 1969 car folder. Otherwise you get a mirror full of your own rear wing which might not be ideal for 36 laps of slipstreaming & banking mayhem Smiley

Or... an ideal way to amuse yourself if you drop off the pack early on and do all the remaining laps alone.  Cheesy

Having run in a couple of practice races on the server, I'd tend to agree with Geoff on the madness issue.

Firstly the lap is 2min 20 secs so that would be 84 mins racing for 36 laps !!

Next the chances of getting more than half the pack to the finish are very low, running the cars side by side from the exit of Parabolica round the banked loop and then back to Grande Curve with the width of the track and the slipstream effect of the 69s, you need to have total 360 degrees vision. I predict a mid field pile up in the opening laps !!  Undecided

Would it not be better having either two shorter races ?  This is meant to be fun after all  Wink

I don't like quitting races until any chance is gone, but dropping back and having to run alone without slipstream would be extremely boring for this one, so pardon me if I just park it and call it a day.  Roll Eyes And yeah, 84 mins is not only longer than what the usual definition of fun is, but it's also very exhausting in these cars, so I hope you people know what you're getting into.  Grin

After my humiliating gaff last night on the practice server I looked at the replay and realise what might be a major prob.

As Mike identified, the run around from Parabolica to Curve Grande via the two bankings is a flat out slipstream "fest", and to stay in with a chance you will have to be in the pack.

I commited the cardinal sin of not double checking the prib readout to see how close and how many cars were behind me. I think it was Mike who slipstreamed past me and as he drew level I glanced across, then looked in my mirrors ( before Mike was clearly in front!! and they apparently showed nothing else close) so I moved across to tuck in behind mike.  AHA!!! WRONG!!!.. There was in fact another car already tucked in behind Mike which had not been visible in my mirror view, but of course it would have shown as only about 0.2 secs back on prib...if I had looked!!

I suspect that in the heat of battle many of us will be looking to play slipstream leapfrog, by tucking into the tow as we are passed, but at these speeds any contact with another car is going to create mayhem for about half the pack.

So be warned and double, double check and allow the passing car to get well clear before moving across as the tow on 69's is effective at quite a reasonable distance.

The intention is to have fun but also try things we couldn't normally do. If we cut it down it just becomes a normal on season type race.
There is the danger of a lot of lonely laps (especially for me  Wink ) but, for my part, I'll get a sense of personal achievement if I can cross the line. I think running Pro adds some spice and the risk cuts down on the danger of boredom.

If anyone finds themself the only one left feel free to pull over as you will have won  Grin  If it doesn't work nothing lost but, at least, we tried it...

Nothing wrong with lonely laps!

I like lonely!

Just a few pixels to chase in the distance is spot on.

Means nobody is about to hit me!!!!!!

OK so I'm paranoid.

Wouldn't Milano have been easier on the gfx/pc?  My frame rate is pants at a couple of spots.  Must look to see if I can switch something off.

With regards to the length thing, I'm with Tim. We wouldn't normally do this so I'm game just as something different. Also it does strike me as being quite a challenge to reach the finish with or without contact  yes
