I'll try and run a couple of laps in Training mode, no slipstream, and see where I'm at.

If I don't do quite well, perhaps someone faster should take the Ferrari and give people a proper tow.

But give me a few days and I'll try and put a few laps in.

Stefan has agreed to a 100% 3 Litre grid so I've amended the first post and put in the chassis choices so far.

Jethro, you won't be able to edit the first post but I can (because I'm the originator) so if you want me to update the list just drop me a PM with your assignments or alternatively add another post in this thread.

I'll knock up a list and post it in this thread at some point. Wink

So who wants the BT19 then? Dibs on the P83! Grin

I'll switch to the BT19 if that suits everyone (or even the Eagle? ). At least there is some time to sort a setup before the race whichever car is allocated. Wink

The top 14 Training times on GPLRank are all Ferrari, stretching from a 2:25.825 to 2:27.200.  Mike is in there at 13th with a 2:27.198 and Natan is 7th with a 2:26.681.
There is a Cooper at 2:27.237 and then a Lotus 43 at 2:27.508.

I would expect Kruger to be at a low 26 or even a 25 if he gets some pracy.  Then we can take it in turns to slipstream him in qually.  Grin

Getting back to the question, 2:25.00 to 2:30.00 at a rough guess.

EDIT:  Managed a 27.59 in training in the L43 but I notice that Racer's Julien Mondragon  alien has just posted a 26.88.  Sad  Still, close enough for a tow!  Grin
I did limited number of laps yesterday and found my self lapping in 2.27.3 but I was more concentrated on the banking setup and getting top speed (can't get over 300 km/h) whilst not compromising acceleration. There is more time to be gained in the bendy part but I reckon 2.25 might be a bit of a far cry for me at the moment.

I tried many setups as a base but Monza67 Cloyd setup seemed the best, with 4th and 5th lengthened. If someone has a nice Ferrari setup for 10k, I'd appreciate it.

Otherwise, perhaps someone else can get better time (no tow) from Ferrari in which case, I'd be happy to swap. Ferrari might be instrumental in the team's succes and I'm not sure I would be the best choice, since  I'm still trying to get to grips with 66 mod (funny, I thought 67 was more difficult but it took me less to get reacquinted with it).

The Lotus peaks at 297 kph and I would expect the Ferrari to be a tad quicker.

I think that it is all about straight line speed here.

I don't. There's 2 hard braking zones here and 2 acceleration corners where the car needs to be perfect or the barriers await.

I tried pushing it higher up but the gain on two bankings and the straight bit between them didn't justify the loss of time in the second part.

Its trickier than I thought it'd be...

EDIT: found some four 66 setups for Monza 10k at the track database, I'll give them a try. Perhaps someone found a soft spot (one of them is Paul's Ferrari setup though he has no time posted for the 10k)

I agree. Those with the lowest wing or no wing profile in our last race were up in front and the rest quickly dropped back. While it may not matter during Qualifying and for overall laptimes, once you put slipstream and group of cars into the equation, you'd want all the top speed you can extract and compensate with driving through the twistier sections. With the (insane) long tow of the 66 mod it's not so bad even if you lose a second in some corner as you'd still get an additional acceleration from the car in front.

All that makes it quite interesting in terms of setup. For instance I had about average amount of downforce in that race during Qualifying, but reduced it to a very low wing angle profile for the race. Took a few laps to get used to, but the difference wasn't THAT big and the straight line speed allowed me to keep up with the leaders.

Yep.

It will be interesting when we start to run some practice races.  I expect that your training lap time will only be relevant if you are in the lead or on your own.  Otherwise the slipstream effect will dominate.

It will not matter how fast you are at Lesmo 1 or Parabolica.  If the guy behind you can slingshot past between the bankings then you are never going to be in the lead at the flag.

Of course it also means that one has to stay in close proximity to the opposition throughout the entire race without hitting any other cars or solid objects.  That is the difficult part.

Are we going to employ any sort of team tactics like, leaving the pits at the same time, at least in the last third of the qualification? Team leader yells out a "secret" signal?

Because that could mean a lot in terms of which half of the grid we occupy.

If its the upper half, we'll be slipstreaming each other and no way anyone else will pass Smiley

What if "they" employ team tactics (in quali) and we don't? We'll be a bloody sitting duck...

Ahem!!  excuse me for being dim..but what and where exactly are the "wing angles" on 66 cars??? Huh Huh. Have I been missing something here?  I know that my setup knowledge is generally limited to gear ratios and tow in/out and occasionally a risky diff experiment, but wing angles is a new one on me for 66?? Undecided

Try some Red Bull, that should give you wings.

Do try to keep up Evil.  Have you had your medication?

Anyway, keeping the rotten thing on the island at Zandvoort is a more pressing problem.
