As the UK is now getting all geared up in snow-boots and Eskimo gear it seems an appropriate time for a jaunt into the Austrian mountans. The Sim weather forecast  however, promises unseasonably warm and sunny conditions for Sunday 17th January at Zeltweg.
This is a bit of an experiment for Sunday Drivers - Zeltweg is not a regular track although some of you may have tried it before. There was a very strong field for the last event in Rouen so hoping to see quite a few of you there. Please assemble in the UKGPL chat room between 9.05 & 9.15. Depending on turnout the race might be passworded.
As usual shift R is permitted. Whilst we are all there to race the point of the spec competition is to compare the fastest lap time in race conditions for each car. We all have a better chance of putting in our best lap if we avoid (too many) collisions & pile ups.
The spec challenge will be the BT7 v Cooper. Usual rules apply - 2 races and for your times to count you need to complete half race distance in both chassis.

Each race 10 laps, first 30 mins qually, second 20 mins qually
Using the Ronnie Bresich 1970 version found here; http://dixierunners.speedgeezers.net/zeltweg1970/

Many thanks for Nicky for agreeing to host this event & to Maddog for the update.
I drove this track about a year ago in a GPL fun race. It isn't too difficult to learn and the sweeping curves are great for drifting the cars. Not suggesting I'll be any faster than my usual back of the grid position but this enjoyable track & well worth finding an evening to practice. Hope to see you on Sunday.
... Bill.

why are you not using Zeltweg 1971 ? as the old track had loads of bugs and problems online afaik .

http://www.f1legends.ch/update/circuits/zeltweg.php

"Zeltweg 1970 was created by Ronnie Bresich in 2001. The track was good but unfortunately very unstable. So, with Ginetto's help, i decided to fix and completely rework the track to make a new version called Zeltweg 1971.

Why a new version ? Because the track have been heavily modified and it is no more compatible with the old version.
We think it was the best decision to avoid compatibily problems with the old track and to guarantee a good stability online .

Other changes :

- new textures
- more than 2800 3do objects added
- crowd and announce sounds added"

nice hint , thx  John .

personlay I would prefer to use Zeltweg 1971 then . looks extreme nice , no risk of online bugs and setups may have been worked out for Zeltweg 1970 could still be used .

well , its up to Billy make an decision on that  Grin

Yes, ultimately the second link takes you to the first link anyway!!

The 71 version is really just a fixed version of the 70, but they decided to make it a new track to avoid confusion!!

Really the 70 can be consigned to history, although I've enjoyed many a lap round it myself, Zeltweg is one of my favourite tracks I have to say.

** IMPORTANT **
Sunday Drivers will be run on the 71 track.
There was a practice session earlier tonight (Thursday) with a mass disconnect.
I'm told the 71 track has the same tarmac as the 70 version - so setups & braking points will be the same.
Sorry to mess about but '71 looks the far better option.

Nicky - trust thats OK with you (& you server).

Just to add: the loose grid setup works on both tracks

I believe the actual track layout for both the 1970 and 1971 versions of Zeltweg are exactly the same so there would be no need for new set ups or practice, other than maybe getting used to new visual reference points for braking.

As the Track is 'nice' to look at it may lead to slower framrates for some people with less powerful machines. I think on page 4 of the Zeltweg71 thread at the SRMZ, there is a link to a lite version of the track for those who may suffer with lower frame rates.

Hopefully the link to the SRMZ should work below.

Gave the 71 track a whirl last night. The graphics are very good, almost photo quality in places.
The track layout and handling is almost identical to the 70 version. In fact I found it a bit easier as there are better reference points for braking.
Unless Nicky has any issue with the server we'll definitely go with the 71 track.
