There are times when it pays, to remember the days of 'PG' (prior to GEM). There was an era when many cars, would show up to a big meeting, without the use of a fancy transporter. And so it was with Mexico, where some GEM transporters refused their cargo. For us, the old fashioned way, was to click on the proper GPL exe, and select our weapon of choice, once inside.
I suspect the transporters drivers to have been corrupted, yesterday. Perhaps they took a bribe to refuse certain cars, though it's dangerous to speculate, and I hope everyone managed to prevail.
I put in a decent practice lap, and decided not to hang about during the race, as per my previous outing. This changed tactic, saw me jump from 6th, to 3rd at the 1st corner. But this quickly unraveled a lap later, when I played follow the leader into the outside Armco. In the space of 6 or 7 seconds, I managed to hit the Armco, Fulvio, Al, and Fulvio again! Hmm . . . I'm beginning to think 1966 was a dangerous year!
It was a relief to see Fulvio able to snuff out the flames, and he and Al able to continue on, with some success! Being the junior member, my car had lost a couple of cylinders in the scuffle, and I switched to limp mode. Was immediately black flagged for dropping oil, but could find nothing in the rulebook about this, so hope my additional limp laps are officially scored. Did nothing naughty enough to stop that I'm aware of? Retired to the pits, once lapped.
Some spirited driving by both Fulvio, and Bernie, to liven up the finish. With sympathies to those early departed from the race, from which I'll include commiserations to myself!
