Moderator's Report

A bit of a thriller with Pelle fighting his way from the back to finish second (but see below). It all goes down to the wire in the final race.
One general issue; we had some cases of what could be deemed corner cutting with a possible view to overtaking. There are no specific rules on this at present, although one may be in the pipeline, but corner cutting is not something we encourage. It can give an unfair advantage and can also be dangerous. By corner cutting I don't mean just a couple of wheels astray.

Server replay time: 0h02m56s

Pelle is following John and appears to try and overtake by going off track at the corner. A collision with John then ensues.
This falls under the following;

Very Ambitious Overtake: Penalty 2 Places
The overtaking driver had not achieved any degree of overlap at turn-in. The overtaking driver WOULD have made the corner. Penalty for overtaking driver.

However warp may be a factor in this as the server does not show direct contact, although a collision probably would have happened anyway, and Pelle came out worse by losing places.
Accordingly the penalty will stand but with a Warning only.

Server replay time: 0h02m57s

Please see the notes above regarding corner cutting. We disable checkpoints for online races as GPL can be a little temperamental in applying it. However, under normal circumstances, Pelle would have been black flagged and made to pit. Accordingly, a 20 second time penalty is also being applied in recognition of this.

Moderator's Report

A win for Ronnie is lining things up for a thrilling season finale. Two reported incidents in this one.

Server replay time: 0h36m48s

Mike is following Hannah but is keeping at a reasonable distance. Hannah loses control going into the armco and off the racing line. Whilst not completely coming to a halt he does immediately carry on straight back onto the line in the corner. Mike has slowed considerably but does carry on.
The only scenario that seems to fit this is a Bad Rejoin. Knowing he had lost control and knowing there was traffic close behind he really should have taken time to check he could safely carry on. Can this be considered to be a 'rejoin' as he didn't actually leave the track as such by virtue of the armco. Well yes in that he was off the main tarmac.
This would appear to be the scenario;

Blatant Bad Rejoin: Penalty 2 Places
The rejoining driver was NOT in full control but nevertheless attempted to drive straight back onto the racing line without any consideration for other drivers and contact was made.

However I do feel there is some mitigation in this case. Firstly perhaps Mike should have been a little more cautious in that Hannah was not completely off track and it could expected, not having come to a complete halt, he would have continued. Also whilst yes it is a bad rejoin it doesn't fit the normal scenario of completely going off and then rejoining. Lastly, it is clear Hannah was not completely in control and had not come to a halt so it could be said he was still trying to correct himself when the collision happened rather then deliberately attempting to get back onto the racing line.

Under these circumstances I am going to call this a racing incident but with advice to Hannah to do everything possible to stay clear if you have lost control and advice to Mike to be extra cautious if someone has lost control into a barrier but not come to a halt, you can't predict what will happen.

Server replay time: 0h44m08s

Following an earlier collision Fabio is left on track facing the wrong way. Hannah has gone off slightly further back, possibly from losing control trying to avoid the incident ahead. Hannah was facing the right way and moved off before Fabio. Fabio could, or should, have seen Hannah move as he was facing towards him. It is irrelevant whether Hannah had already been lapped as he clearly had, for want of a better term, the 'right of way'. Fabio then turned across directly into Hannah causing the incident.

This clearly is a bad rejoin as Fabio had come to a complete halt and was in control of what he was doing. I do not consider it 'appalling' as it cannot be said Fabio was actually trying to rejoin onto the racing line so the rules have this;

Blatant Bad Rejoin: Penalty 2 Places
The rejoining driver drove straight back onto the track, but not the racing line, without checking for other cars and contact was made.

However I am again going to allow some mitigation here. The reason being is that I think we should allow for an element of confusion ie they are both off/out and both naturally want to restart but it happens to be at the same time. However the onus was clearly on Fabio to wait as he was facing completely the wrong way. Accordingly the standard 2 place penalty has been reduced to 1.

Thanks, Bernie, I don't think I'll ever repeat that lap, it was spot on in almost every corner!

And yeah, I use an update, but I'm not sure which one it is, it was long ago since I installed it. Here's a thread with some Jarama updates that I just found, the one I use is probably one of those, at least in regard to the asphalt:

I had forgotten just how much I detest this circuit!!  Undecided Embarrassed scared

Hearding the word "Jarama", still after 30 years, my mind goes to HIS last F1 win: 67 leading laps in front of 4 "mad dogs" with better handling cars than HIS Ferrari, without doing any mistake.

One of the most exciting (...and longest) race I've ever watched!

I'm reminded why I detest the Honda, and whilst in theory this circuit with enough laps should suit my style I could not get the damn thing up to speed. So to find Hristo a full 5 seconds up the road in qualifying was rather galling, and the driving on laps 1-3 could be better quite frankly.

JW you were at 1:31 in Q! Geez if only!

Anyway, there was absolutely no point in me carrying on and acting as a mobile chicane when half the field had lapped by 10 laps in.  It goes against my principle of don't quit a race, but that was just clearly ridiculous to carry on.  Sad

If I'm honest Steve I decided not to participate. A lack of any track time with a demanding circuit in the Works would have just placed me as a liability. I'll be back for Monza though.

An eventful race. I found my self up from 5th to 2nd by L2 thanks to a couple of incidents ahead with Martin hard on my heels. A spin and an encounter with a fence put me back down the field in 8th behind Bernie who seemed to run a bit wide on L4 so I tried to sneak through but we touched and I bounced over the armco landing intact but facing the wrong way. Rather than doing a shiftR, I drove back along the verge until a gap in the Armco appeared. Unfortunately in doing so I incurred the wrath of the stewards and for the rest of the race saw only the DQ board. Consequently for the rest of the race I'd no idea what place I was in or who I was racing. The blue flag was waved whenever another car was in range so I had to guess who were the genuine lappers rather than other drivers on the same lap. To cap it all, the monitor went into power saving mode at one point resulting in another encounter with the fence.
I hope I did the right thing in carrying on - I seem to recall that the advice in a DQ situation is to continue and let those clever mods sort out the final positions.

Can you bung in an incident report about that. We can have a look and reinstate you if needed.

Difficult track to find a good rythm - because you have to constantly brake. I don't race a Billy Nobrakes without good reason!

First tangle was with Bernie through Turn 1 & 2 where Bernie had the inside. I kept pretty much to my line & was amazed when I recovered from a summersault without need to Reset.
Second one about lap 28 Fabio was closing to lap me - I thought I'd enought time to clear turn 2 to leave him room to pass but we came together after turn 1.
Finally - after several scaps with Hannah, on the last lap I span. I was sure he would pass me but seemed he went for some synchronised spinning  instead. We both recovered heading for the corner & I got there slighly in front. Could be a double bad rejoin but maybe they cancelled each other out?
Leave it for you chaps if you want to report any of the above incidents.
Glad to finish in one piece & quite entertaining - look forward to Monza.

YUCK.

Kept going just in case of a mass disco and my first win...

Did get a PB - 1:45. Managed to spin at least once on EVERY corner lol.

Gave me a LOT of practice being lapped and several times I just parked up to let the field by, I was that bad.

If we never go to Jarama again it will be too soon. Roll on Monza.

PS Hope I didn't get in anyone's way. Sorry if I did.

Jarama, my first encounter with it & I was hoping it would be my last...but it was an incredibly fun race, thx to all  Grin
I made one mistake after another since I came on the server, threw myself into qual & got a new PB fairly quickly 1:27.02. No more qual for me (could probably not do it better) & would switch to the race setup & warm up, but discovers the setup I used in qual was a race setup for 19 laps laugh
My race setup was for 39 laps, but it was scary  Shocked...had almost no control over the car until the tires were warmed up after about a lap. Do not know quite what went wrong in T1 - sry if I made mistakes - but I need to get the replay to see what went wrong. Wink
I fell far down the field (maybe I was last) but now there is heat in the tires & also in me, but Histro is impossible to obtain, 30 seconds & never got closer, big Grats...too bad I failed at T1, would like to have teased you a little about the first place  Cool

My errors does not end after we have run over finish line...did a little too much show & my second place was to -1 lap ARGH
...but no matter where I finish, it was good to finally complete a race...with no engine explosions Cheesy ...& more positively at Jarama, I removed the worst rust, my old shape slowly turns back.
I'm glad it's Monza next time, we were more after the race that took a little test. My goal was when we joined server 1:27.5...& I got 1:27:45 in Eagle.

Help: Where is there a link that works to 'GPL Replays' ?

lol, I did better than Pelle. The test at Monza included fast guys, Pelle, Tom, H. Midfield runners (so a little bird tells me Wink) and me. My aim was for a 1:35 and I got 1:34. Only because H and Tom rode shotgun and gave me a running critique. I thought Jarama was embarrassing but that was something else. I was running the default Honda and the guys were wetting themselves at my lack of pace, inability to turn in, haste to accelerate etc although they were very encouraging. I told Tom he needed to use the Honda as I had it and he went out and did two laps at 1:30 or so! Steve made me feel better by only going 1:32... Sad

Thanks to all the guys who helped!
