Moderator's Report

Some lessons for all concerned:
1) Clean races are much easier for me to moderate than this one.
2) The sweeping corners at Keimola caught out a few people where drivers took an inside line but did not apprecaite the speed being carried by the driver on the outside - resulting in a number of collisions.
3) If you haven't raced a track before please take a few minutes to familiarise yourself with the whereabouts of the pit lane. Steve & Fulvio did, others used the road beside the S/F & will incur a time penalty.
4) Use of mobile phones is against the highway code. Geoff was on his, working out the finer points of his new sponsorship deal with Nokia & completely forgort the race has started.
5) We had a new type of incident - see comments under the Bernie / Fabio report.

Server replay time: 0

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 0h00m47s

Geoff doesn't move off the start line. Fabio has a reasonable expection Geff will move & runs into the back of Geoff. Blito cannot avoid Geoff's sideways car.
Racing Incident.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 0h01m06s

Heading into Turn 1. Sam is a bit out of shape & takes a wide line . Evil has a run up the inside but not quite enough space & the cars collide.
Racing Incident.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 0h01m07s

Almost a reply involving Badblood & Hristo. Again it seemed the driver on the inside had room but the driver on the outside carried greater speed.
Racing Incident.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 0h01m24s

Approach to Turn 3 Natan takes a run up the inside of Goran who was leading the race. On this occasion Natan had a good view & wasn't going to make the pass unless Goran backed out.

Server replay time: 0h01m26s

Into the same corner Ronnie does make a clean pass on Evil but doesn't make the corner due to a collison with Gorans stricken car.
Racing Incident
Causing a PILE UP - Goran, Evil, Cookie, Fulvio, Ross, Blito, Hristo, Billy ...
Declaring a moderating amnesty on this one. No extra points for aerobatics.
Badblood has downloaded a specific replay if anyone is brave enough to watch!

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 0h01m53s

Bernie takes a SnG but not in the pit lane.

Server replay time: 0h02m17s

Ronnie makes a pass on Bernie - marginal contact between Bernies front & Ronnies rear wheels.
Racing Incident

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 0h02m20s

Badblood loses the corner. On the rejoin he hugs the very inside of the track to leave room. Ronnie is distracted & slides off at the corner.
Ronnie is left stranded as he moves off he impedes Nicky although to stay in the centre of the track would have probably caused a further incident.
Racing Incident

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 0h02m50s

Bernie takes a SnG in the wrong place but also cuts across Fabio by decelrating and pulling over.
Mods have had a bit of a conflab here. According to the rule book "Most incidents encountered in GPL can be assigned to one of the typical categories listed below. However, no two incidents are exactly the same and consequently the moderator has some discretion when awarding a suitable penalty. In general moderators will be lenient when a driver has tried to do the right thing and harsh if a driver has shown total disregard for his fellow competitors."
Bernie's action is probably worthy of a penalty but we have no obvious rule here. Drivers are asked to exercise caution when pitting if this involves moving across the racing line where cars are following. If this is a recurring issue then we'll look at the rule book again.

Caution - Bernie.

Fortunately a quiter race than the first one.

Server replay time: 0h01m02s

Cookie follows Blito into T1 where there is warp contact.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 0h01m03s

Nicky takes a very crafty SnG - just in the wrong place.

Server replay time: 0h01m14s

Cookie rejoins after his earlier incident & drifts across Nicky's path. A poor rejoin, Nicky takes to the grass but can't avoid contact. Cookie takes a second trip to the sidelines & Nicky carries on.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 0h02m04s

Bernie loses the last corner & makes a clumbsy rejoin - driving straight over the tyres & collects Blito.

Server replay time: 0h02m12s

Badblood makes the last corner but gets out of shape - looking for the mobile that phone that Geoff lost in Race 1. Geoff keeps to the left but their cars touch, Geoff carries on unaffected.

For GPL and the 69xtra mod 2,8GHz is ok and should run fine.
Yes, its a good idea to give it more RAM, because thats what the mod needs.
Then the used RAM has not to be written on HD what makes it very slow.

When running GPL and the more challengeing mods, you have to close all unneccessary resident programes that eat RAM.
Stop all processes that have to do with printer or adobe and so on.
A nice little freeware is CCleaner  where you can control all autostart programs. My autostart contains only graphics, sound and antivir !

My low budget runs long time, cause it contains also a HDTV card and has replaced my TV. So it has to be energy saving too.
The whole system containing a 5.1 HIFI sound system and a 24' monitor eats only 120Watt/hour to max 200Watt/hour under full throttle !

Writing this post I watch the 125ccm MotoGP at BBC in a small window Grin

Cheers

T7 server hasn't enough RAM to run 69Xtra mod. I asked Bart to install the mod on the same server we run the Porsche Cup,  it has 2 gb RAM so wouldn't be a problem, but I think would be for some clients pc.

69 is not praticilary resource heavy. I have p4 1.8 ghz, 500 mb ram, 32 mb vram and 30 gb hdd, and, besides the 5 min loading time, it runs fine... anyone with more ram will run it just fine.

Yesterday I installed the 69Xtra mod on my new server with 1GB RAM and it runs fine with 36fps!

The first funraces where with 3-5 drivers and I hope to test it with some more in the next days...

Keep in mind that the only thing bigger mods really need is RAM and if you don't have, they simply use the virtual memory of the OS. Once loaded up, it doesn't make much of a difference while you're driving. FPS wise, I doubt the new mod is heavier than the GT cars, with their higher polygon count.

A quick note to whoever is lucky enough to start from pole - you can't see the flagman from first place on the grid. You need to glance to the right.

I found this out the hard way in season 19 Smiley

For GPL and the 69xtra mod 2,8GHz is ok and should run fine.

Wink I wont agree in general that2,8GHz CPU is fast enough for GPL .
Especially older CPUs like P4 arent fast enoughh even soo they come with 3GHz .
Norbert once run an Pentium 4 with 3 GHz and that CPU was way slower then Opteron 148 with 2,2GHz !!!

Another thing to me turns out while setting up new PCs for GPL over the last years , is that CPU power is extreme more important then GPU power ( videocard ) .
In my case , GPL dont benefit from ATI 4890 1GB videocard over my oldest ATI X1800XTX 512MB videocard.

As well , imo , GPL do not benefit from dual , triple or quad core CPUs .

( well havnt installed 69extra on my oldest PC yet , but will soon and then report here if DFI Ultra-D motherboard , Optern 146@2,7GHz , 1GB OCZ RAM and ATI X1800XTX 512 MB can handle this new mod ) .

As to 69extra and server  : I allready did ordered an 2 GB DDR2 kit for my server . should arrive tomorrow hopefully .
So far my server ( 1GB atm ) have 951MB in use when 69extra is on . But that is related to the fact a onboard videocard is running , steeling main  memory ....

happy tuning

btw.
anyone interested in one of my older ATI videocards ?
-X1800XTX 512 MB with Accelero S1 cooler on

-X1900XTX 512 MB with waterblock-cooler on , originall cooler still in the back

-X195oXTX 512 GDR3 MB with Accelero S1 cooler on ( not sure if I really like to get free of this card )

- or maybe on above mentioned DFI combo ?

Well, you're wrong, Nicky. As I said before, I played GPL on a 300 mhz Celeron CPU without any issues whatsoever. The main thing is the video card and then the memory.

Exacly, i have run it on p3 450 mhz, only problem i had was the videocard (8 mb vram) on more detailed tracks and mods. Now a 32 mb videocard and 1.8 mhz p4 can handle everything at 36 fps. 2.6 ghz is overkill... and i can figure 1 gig ram would be enough for 69 extra for reasonable load times. Othervize i am able to run them at 36 fps too, once they load.

I dont, all my computers are with integrated videocards. Evil

Sorry about that bump at second spec race btw...forgot to check my prib. I let you through on the next lap because of that... but you spin after that...

Enough of hardware - what about the race.

Apologies to H for a touch at T1, L1, Race 1. I over rotated and couldn't stop myself sliding into you. First time I've ever actually raced you! And don't forget I out qualified you (ahem).

Sorry also to Ronnie for a bad rejoin in front of him on Lap 1. I genuinely thought there was a gap mate and I tried to keep very tight to the tyres. Sorry.

Apart from that, quite good fun. Made a great start and then messed it up by tangling with Mister H. Got some places back at the post pit carnage and then lost them again through poor car control. Generally though I was pleased with my consistency - had a fun battle with Bernie and then Ronnie caught us up. I slowed at the pit corner a wee bit early so as not to fight too hard but I think I caught Bernie by surprise and he span. Pity really, we were having a good battle. He was quicker, no doubt, but not quick enough to have no trouble. I put in a couple of PB's with him breathing down my neck. Pleased about that.

Race 2. Qually found the BT7 quite nice to drive and I quickly set a PB. To put myself... last. Cue wry grin. Made a few places on lap one gain but this time, I was a bit loose coming on to the S/F straight and had a big warp contact with Geoff. I always seem to come out of these things worse off Sad

Tootled round in 18th and nearly caught Cookie who had had some adventures. Again pretty pleased with my consistency even if I am slow as treacle.

These really are the most fun races in UKGPL IMHO.

Wink sorry for hijack this thread for hardwarestuff...

back to race :
I used JK setups out the internet , unfortunately the Coopers gear ratio became corrupted the moment I reduced the 6th gear . Thatswhy I stopped the race coz couldnt even rech  2nd gear ...

2nd race was big fun . Had some nice racing with Cookie and S2173 .

I went into these races with very little practice under my belt - I gave each car 10 minutes, enough to sort out gear ratios and learn which way the track goes but nothing more. It showed in race 1 as I made dozens of silly mistakes and had too many offs... I was surprised to see my best lap was so competitive!
Race 2 was a whole lot better.... although I lost a fair few places on lap one by being too close to the guy in front when he got out of shape in the twisties... Very pleased to have made two very smart overtakes in race two, first to pass Fabio and secondly to pass Steve Bird (who was bottled up behind sky - thanks Sky, I wouldn't have caught Steve without your help!) The final half of the race was spent being a bit defensive because Steve was on a flyer... I held him off and was well pleased with the result..
Another great race Smiley
