Moderator's Report

Our intrepid Porsche drivers wanted to test the top speed of their chariots on the long straight of Kyalami. Unfortunately it also has some corners too which seemed to confuse one or two of them.

Nicky felt the need to overtake by going through rather than around and Clive decided to test out the Rally Cross course but found it to be much overrated and eventually returned to the tarmac.

Server replay time: 0h00m50s

Hristo is seen to drive through the pit wall and at one point half of his car is on the wrong side of it.
The rules about the pit wall are very clear. All drivers are requested to have it in place so that everybody has the same amount of track available to them.
Drivers are able to race without it but if they cross the line where the pit wall should be then they are using a wider track that is not available to anyone else and they gain an unfair advantage.

Tom may or may not have had the wall in place but as he follows Hristo away from the start he is extremely close to it without actually crossing it.

Hristo - DQ

Server replay time: 0h01m31s

Nicky gets a run on Vos at Sunset but does not have any overlap at turn in. Vos takes the racing line and closes the gap where Nicky's nose is.

There is contact and Vos is punted off.

Vos has asked for no penalty to be given and Nicky has apologised so I will waive the penalty for the collision, but as this was lap 1 when all drivers are asked to be extra careful I will still apply the Lap 1 incident penalty place.

Server replay time: 0h32m56s

Jason is being lapped by Tom and Hristo and gets hit by Tom at The Esses.

The two leaders catch Jason at Sunset and Tom closes right up on him through the Esses just as Jason has a wobble at the apex and is slow out giving Tom little time to react as he is so close. Tom recovers but Hristo nips through and takes the lead that he would keep.

Jason could possibly have let the leaders past before Clubhouse but probably between Clubhouse and The Esses, however he may have been waiting for a much better opportunity where he could let both past on the longest straight in GPL.

It is not possible to see Blue Flags on replays so it is difficult to know if Jason had ignored them, and of so, how many?

Tom and Hristo feel Jason should have let them by sooner but Jason feels a little patience from Tom would have paid off and he would have let them both by cleanly. I think both are valid arguments and both could face a penalty.

This incident is perhaps more notorious for Jason's Vodka fuelled report that all moderators have printed, laminated and stuck on their walls. High up where the children can't read it of course.

Our rules say that moderators need to use discretion in all such Blue Flag cases and I will try to use a little more discretion and a little less vodka than Jason who said (among other things)

"Is this the Kya Porka race? ...."

"Full respect TO .... whatever his nabme is for for me foe me foero me for pushing me outta thae way on lap, Iduuno 26 or sumthing, .... pld fella! BTW I'm pissed - saturday night aint a good time for reAsoned debate :)"

"[forgive the spelling but tnis vodka is very strong""""!!!!)"

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 0h45m07s

Nicky rear ends Roberto as he is lapping him along the straight.

Roberto has stayed right and given Nicky the racing line but Nicky is trying to get a little extra slipstream and simply moves across to pass too late, hitting Roberto.

Both continue.

As Norbert approaches the aftermath of the collision he slows but Hristo who is behind him does not and just manages to squeeze through the gap between the stricken Roberto and the careful Norbert.

If Hristo had made contact with either one of them he could well have faced a penalty for a lack of care approaching an incident even though he was not shown any yellows.

Server replay time: 0h45m50s

Nicky has his third incident of the race while being lapped by Hristo who seems a little impatient and goes for a pass expecting Nicky to stay wide.

Nicky thinks it is a pass for position and takes the racing line but makes contact with Hristo before being knocked from the track.

Hristo continues apparently unaffected and Nicky recovers.

Moderator's Report

Server replay time: 0h01m03s

Jonny O goes too hot into Crowthorne on Lap 1 trying a pass on Fabio. He takes to the grass on the inside and Fabio has a little wobble, either in reaction to the move or a because of a slight loss of control. This wobble unsettles Hendy who taps Fabio before taking to the grass on the outside.

Jonny got away with it but he was way too hot into T1 on Lap when we always ask drivers to take extra care.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 0h01m15s

Clive has spun at Crowthorne and tries to rejoin before Barbeque, but on lap 1 and with all of the field now making their way past this is a very risky move and he would be well advised to either wait or rejoin after Barbeque.

To be fair to Clive he does join off the racing line on the outside of the bend hoping everybody else will be on the inside where the racing line is, but unfortunately Fabio seems to be going too fast to make Barbeque and looks to be going wide anyway before he hits Clive who drives back on track right in front of him.

I'm going to waive the rejoin penalty for Clive as he did take precautions to join safely, and I am not going to penalise Fabio for the contact as he did not expect Clive to rejoin in front of him.

You will be glad to know that Clive did eventually make it back on to the track, somewhere between Jukskei and Sunset.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 0h01m20s

While Clive and Fabio are having their issues, Skymole is having issues of his own, and considering that this is lap 1 in a Pro race where damage can mean retirement, he is taking far too many risks.

He attempts a pass on the inside at Jukskei that he gives up by taking to the grass and then Sunset where he goes from the grass on the left, all the way across the track to the inside and passes 2 cars.

Server replay time: 0h01m55s

Du Fossa spins at The Esses and is hit by Stefano as he blocks the track.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 0h02m12s

Hendy gets way too close to Roberto Vianna into the Leeukops bend and shunts him from behind.

This kind of incident is easily avoided and is needless as they are about to enter the longest straight in GPL where a pass will be possible without needing to close right up here.

Server replay time: 0h17m37s

Du Fossa and Fran head for T1 with Du Fossa ahead on the inside but Fran does his usual late brake and draws level on the outside.

As they make their way around the corner Fran moves slightly over the centre line into Du Fossa's side just as Du Fossa oversteers slightly knocking Fran from the circuit.

Fran was always taking a risk by going around the outside of this corner but having said that, the server shows no actual contact with Du Fossa keeping a tight line.

Fran submitted a replay that shows Du Fossa moving towards him and making clear contact.

This is as clear case of warp as you will ever see so any penalty shall be mitigated.

Hmmm - wonder who that sideways Waza was.

As I see it, this situation was extreme for all of us in the last lap! And Paul was the poor rabbit chasen by all biting dogs arround.
For me no incident!!!

If you don't get distracted with Pribluda all the time, you'd be much more aware of who's where on the track around you...

I am an old man but not yet dement!

I allways know who is arround me and I am not distracted with Pribluda all the time.
It helps to know if Hristo is coming, far before he is there Grin

And I consist that some various Porsche skins would help!

chef

And if it happens that Pribluda drops me for a couple of seconds and shows someone else behind you, how is that of help? Or if it shows me at a wrong distance/gap, like it also happens sometimes. I never blamed you for bad driving due to Pribluda, but I was saying it for everyone, not just you, because some just rely on it too much and forget to use other feedback sources more efficiently.

Wery bad race for me... i forgot to load my setup to race and i ended up with default setup - not enough fuel for the race and awfully low steering ratio... amazingly i managed to make my way through the first 2 laps, but then i wrap-rearended someone at the hairpin (i didnt feel anything, but he went offtrack, sorry) and after that i just quit... Too bad it wont teach me to load this damn setup...happened 3 times aready.  Lips Sealed

More skins eh? I already made an all blue and an all orange version, which other colors should I pick? All Porsches that race now have liveries used during the 1967 endurance season, although they only changed the nose colors for each race. Perhaps it something to bring up during the off season, certainly changing the colors on the car doesn't take me much time Smiley .

It seems like more people unfortunately experienced hindrance from backmarkers. I'd even go as far as saying the way backmarkers got out of the way yesterday was below the usual high standards of UKGPL, unfortunately. Last night was the second time in two races a backmarker got in my way, so I hope this is not becoming a problem. Thankfully the Solitude is a big track so we won't have to worry about backmarkers too much over there Smiley .

OK, I installed back the pit wall and it became apparent I was confused by the yellow line that marks the pit exit, which I thought was exactly beneath the pit wall armco. At the start, I passed just near that yellow line, thinking it's the actual pit wall, but in reality the pit wall extends further to the left, so I really crossed it - my apologies.

Anyway, it was a very good race with Tom until it was compromised later on in the race. From there on it was a lonely run, but not for long. I had one particular hair raising moment which nobody was responsible for really, but I suggest you watch it for your own entertainment - it unfolds at 45m24s into the race on the server replay. Baldassarri was stationary at T1 after a spin and Stemmler had slowed down in caution, so I just managed to go between both of them as we entered the corner - the view from Baldassarri's in-car camera is frightening!  Grin

Grats to Bot (!) for probably getting the win after I probably get DQ.  Tongue

Sorry Tommie

Hope I wasn't one of the bad guys Roll Eyes

There shouldn't be any pressure on you Roll Eyes
But my idea is that these colors can be seen in online races by all others.
Then if I could have a whish:
why not national colors, like the british racing green, orange for you and red, for whom I've forgotten, white,  blue and so on
cause sooner or later this series will become a kind of World Cup.
I know the difficulties of getting the right colors to the right people... just dreaming!

Thanx
Axel

PS atm I run a test on IGOR 69X with 60fpsV1

Hi Axel, I've always liked the idea of team or even personal liveries in races, indeed we even tried it in the old Interleague series. Expanding the idea has been kicked around in the past and generally didn't find favour due to the logistics involved.
I don't think the logistics are insurmountable, I believe GP Fun do it, but things can get time consuming if the attendees at events are fluid.
If things could be streamlined, so entering the servers with the right livery is simple and doesn't take too much time, it's something that could be considered subject to everyone being keen. The good thing with personalised liveries is, if you aren't interested, you can just ignore it and don't need to change your GPL settings.
Who would paint all the cars though?

Nice of you Cookie but I don't know what I was thinking of - it was really crap. I got a real shock when you appeared in my mirrors so I was obviously a bit distracted. I should have known you were there. Very bad. What is wierd is that Tristan then comes through fast and I get off the driving line and he just shunts me really hard. Lucky we both didn't blow up. Don't feel at fault for that one though...

not a best racing for me setup was odd and was propably only who didnt use Tom's setup clone.
After dropping out on early laps it was difficult to gain spots back but managed to do it to 5th, Tommies engine leaking oil to road but still havent time to catch him in the end of race. This was no my track .

grats Tristan for win!

i think i still got the lead in champ with 1 or 2 points before Tommie.  Grin

Who would paint all the cars though?

I can give a hand if u want or help any other guy to customize skins!

In GPFun we use customized skins but there are some restrictions pertaining a precise pilot entry list for entering the server and have the correct skin assignment. My livery files are identified by entry list number 97 because the number 27 (that is drawn on my car) was already assigned in the past to another pilot. I made the Lotus 72 JPS livery for my cars in GPFun. SO I have Lotus, Eagle, Ferrari, Brabham, Cooper, Honda and BRM painted in black and gold with the trademark JPS (John Player Special).

These are my Brabham, Cooper and Ferrari

Those look extremely good Sergio. Martin has also offered to help paint and Tom mentioned in the past he might pitch in. So that would cover the liveries.
What is the process re joining Sergio? Guess with team liveries you can just join by team order rather then driver by driver? How long does it normally take for GP Fun? And what do you do when someone is missing? If we had to use the 'dummy car' procedure would it block off a place on the grid or can we still have 19?

what I can surely say is, it is the order each pilot enters on the server that makes possible the combination pilot/livery in fact the manager calls each pilot for the entry in winvroc chat so are not permitted free entries.

WOW
now it gets interresting!

My dream:

It needs the help of the great makers of the 69X mod and GTmod.
They managed to make 45 different cars  of 69x and to assign slots for them, in GT we have 9 slots used remaining 36.
Still dreaming, if there are some GTs in the pipeline there will still be a possibility for some Porsches left..

What we need to get eg the team colors are atm 12 different Porsches or 18 for 3rd server and so on  Grin
The Pastit Teamies just take their red Porky or the LOL team takes the  blue one...

Then there would be no trouble to join or if someone is missing

If you're talking new car slots that is getting into modding territory which is beyond me Grin
