Moderator's Report

A win for Hristo but Fulvio still leads the championship.
Two lap one incidents (below).

Server replay time: 0h01m12s

Clear warp contact between Tim FMG and Rick. The server shows no contact.
Best fit rule is;
"Genuine Warp Incident: No penalty - Racing Incident
Prior to the warp incident, the following car was driving no closer than a car's length from the leading car but then closed up under braking, possibly due to the leading car braking early, but no actual contact would have been made."

Genuine Warp Contact.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 0h01m40s

Hristo makes a pass on Arf into the corner. He has over 100% overlap at turn in and Arf should have seen the move in his mirrors and know he was there. The pass was therefore legitimate.
Arf turns in and hits H, at point of impact he has only 10% overlap. H is unaffected and there is a slight element of warp although a collision was likely to have happened anyway.
The rules have this;
"Simple Ambitious Overtake: Penalty 1 Place
The overtaking car HAD achieved a 100% or greater overlap at the point of turn-in. There was no loss of control by either driver. Penalty for overtaken driver."

However, I am going to mitigate this due to the warp element and possible confusion re Arf not knowing exactly where Hristo was as the pass happened very quickly. Also Hristo was unaffected.
The two places will be waived ie that for lap one and the penalty itself. Accordingly the penalty is reduced to a warning.

Moderator's Report

A close run win for Ross. All those who reset duly complied with the Stop and Go rules although some had a spot of bother entering the pits.
One lap one incident and one transgression of the pit wall rules. Apart from that Mike J decided he would prefer to start his run with a quicky reccy of the pit area.

Server replay time: 0h00m55s

Mike T drives his car through the pit wall with no ill effects.
The rules are 100% clear on this;
"anybody seen miraculously driving through the pit wall on the server replay will be disqualified"

Server replay time: 0h01m42s

Hendy closes up too fast on Billy and clips him. Billy is unscathed but H's spin collects Paul. This is very similar to the Novices incident at Albi. Caution needs to be taken in traffic if you are later on the brakes.
The rules have this;
"Blatant Rear End Shunt: Penalty 2 Places
The victim made no mistakes and was driving their normal line at normal speed. The shunter made no allowance for the victim whatsoever. The shunter was in full control."
As this was lap one no allowance can be made for any early braking issues.

Server replay time: 0h07m02s

Skymole goes wide at Crowthorne and rejoins in front of Bernie, who moves right and tries to pass into Barbecue. Bernie has achieved approx 100% overlap, and has the inside line, but in spite of this Skymole turns in and hits Bernie.
The rules have this;
"Simple Ambitious Overtake: Penalty 1 Place
The overtaking car HAD achieved a 100% or greater overlap at the point of turn-in. There was no loss of control by either driver. Penalty for overtaken driver."

Server replay time: 0h10m04s

Skymole attempts to pass a recovering Mike J together with Fabio to his right. He moves right into Fabio before he has cleared.
The rules have this;
"Blatant Side by Side contact: Penalty 2 Places
On a straight, the overtaking car moves out to overtake but cuts back in too early. The victim made no mistakes and was driving their normal line at normal speed. The shunter made no allowance for the victim whatsoever and was in full control when the incident took place. There was no loss of control. Penalty for overtaking driver."

However it is appreciated the recovering, and slower, Mike clouded the situation somewhat so I am going to mitigate and reduce it to a 1 place penalty in view of the possible confusion.

Server replay time: 0h26m04s

Paul makes a small mistake at Clubhouse and rejoins on the left hand side of the track whilst Hannah stays right on the racing line. Hannah draws alongside due to his better exit speed from Clubhouse at which point the two cars make contact. The incident looks slighly different on all replays and hence warp is the deciding factor as contact may not have happened otherwise.
The rules have this;
"Genuine Warp Incident: No penalty - Racing Incident
Prior to the warp incident, the following car was driving no closer than a car's length from the leading car but then closed up under braking, possibly due to the leading car braking early, but no actual contact would have been made."
Whilst not the exact scenario it is the best fit.

Genuine Warp Incident

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 0h31m04s

Skymole closes on Hannah at Crowthorne as he prepares to lap him. Hannah is slow out of the corner and moves right off the racing line as they approach Barbecue. Skymole stays left on the racing line but before any overlap is achieved warp contact is made and both drivers spin. Contact may not have happened otherwise.
Again a 'best fit' ruling;
"Genuine Warp Incident: No penalty - Racing Incident
Prior to the warp incident, the following car was driving no closer than a car's length from the leading car but then closed up under braking, possibly due to the leading car braking early, but no actual contact would have been made."

Genuine Warp Incident

  • Racing incident

Lovely to be back on the top step for the first time since November, when the wins are less frequent you do treasure them more Smiley Especially the manner of it, chasing down a fifteen second gap and taking the lead with three laps to go.

Before I get too carried away, as Ronnie mentioned Martin was missing today and I'm sure he would have had a big say in his Lotus. I'm also fortunate that Ronnie wasn't aware of me closing the gap to him until it was almost too late. I guess you don't use Prib or the pit board Ronnie? In any case I'm sure you would have won if you'd realised earlier.

Big respect Ronnie as you were very gracious afterwards, and grats on a pole time good enough for fifth on the Works grid. I think you've shown next season you could mix it in the higher division and your results this term have shown you to be the best in the Privateers field.

Well done to my team-mates Mike on nabbing third after all your PC issues and the fast-starting Geoff who is sure to get a headline result sooner or later. See you all at the next one.

History repeats itself!  Monaco 1970 - Jochen Rindt chases down Jack Brabham in the final 3 laps. Brabham makes a mistake, and Rindt won it.  Ok, it was 12 seconds in 3 laps, and the mistake came with a backmarker, in the final corner, but Titanic stuff, by the sound of it.  Wish I'd been there to watch, in my mirrors. Aha so probably initially joined with the wrong player profile, easily done. Will leave as is.

Thanks for the replay Fulvio. My race was a similar story this season. I started well enough, until about half distance when I make a small error and lose a position or two. As a result of that, I get flustered and start driving more erratically and consequently make errors more frequently and it just spirals into a heap. I've got to find a way to calm down while driving  Undecided.

A broken engine put me out of my misery when I gave the Repco a bootful in my eagerness to rejoin. Congrats to those that made it to the finish  Smiley.

Got bumped off track at T2 L1.  Dropped me to P-last.  Didn't matter cause I put in the wrong fuel load and ran out of gas on lap 8 or 9.  That explains why I was able to rocket off the line at the green flag!  What a waste of a good Lotus.   Sad

brain fade , happens a lot these days , I was amidst the masses at bottom bend , now re named Graham Hill bend (always knew he was bent )

great days , got in free too as with most GP's I went to .

Ironic that Brabham wanted to retire (he was 40 yrs old ) but couldnt find a decent driver to lead the team . He wanted Rindt to drive , Rindt hated the Lotus because it was so fragile,  he wanted to drive the Brabham but Chunky Chapman smooth talked him into staying with Lotus .

As Stewart said " If you want to win GP's go drive a Lotus , If you want to live to old age go drive for Brabham  Undecided

R.I.P. Jochen

Interesting quote Bernie I've not heard that before. I do know that Jochen actually wrote to Chapman during the 1970 season to complain about the car after a particularly nasty crash, possibly not that long before the tragic Monza weekend.

Also every time I see Nina Rindt interviewed it is abundantly clear she is still very bitter about Jochen's death. Thankfully safety standards are much better now, even if some say the challenge has been diluted.

A lot of stuff came to light about Chunkies "add lightness" policies since he departed the scene,  people  who knew better kept shtum from loyalty (and in some cases fear of libel I suppose)

Clark's death at Hockenhiem was put down to a tyre suddenly deflating , but Chris Amon (among others ) who was racing that day had other ideas  Sad

Jackie Oliver's Lotus 49 broke in half in front of the pits at Rouen  Shocked

Suspension failures and bits falling off were common

Back to the GPL world , where do I find the server replay for this race , doesnt seem to exist  Undecided

If GPL really modelled each chassis and engine properly, with all their flaws, none of you would ever take the Lotus for a whole season.  Cheesy
