Grats to Tris on the win, and to Dean for
a) Finding a Wi-Fi connection
b) joining the race....
c) finding Ferrari tricycle in which to complete the race!!!
d) and preserving his hold on the 66 Championship
I was tempted to take my favourite car ( BRM 2ltr V8 ), but thought that the old Wazamobile should have a run. It's been a long time since I drove that car in anger.
I used an old setup from Albi that was ultra twitchy, but with a few adjustments to the diff, it became quite driveable. Tris and Alex appeared intent on fighting for pole position, and when the race started the battle continued. I decided to stay just second or so behind, but could not allow any more of a safety gap because Andreas was hunting me down
. As long as Tris and Alex were disputing the lead I had no problem staying with them, until they tangled wheels and offered me the chance to take the lead.
The setup I was using was very slow at warming the tyres and it was difficult to push in the corners on cold tyres as the rear would just break away...which it did and I dropped to 4th as Andreas took the chance to sweep past.
Set off after the leading trio and gradually was reeling in Andreas when I came across a recovering Axel. This meant that Tris was alone up front and able to run his own race and pull away whilst Andreas, Axel and myself dispute the other 2 podium places.
Axel dragged me along with him until we caught Andreas, then he made the power of the Ferrari count and made the pass into 2nd place, before easing away. The Honda felt quicker than Andreas wanted to go, but I could not find a safe pass for several laps until I got a better drive out of one of the slow left handers and got myself on the inside line for the next right.
Axel was ahead but just in sight and I thought I might have a chance of catching him. He had a minor "off" and the gap was closed. Then I half spun and let him go again.
Not sure what happened to Axel as he just vanished when he was a few laps from the flag?, but I just had to keep a safe distance from Andreas and sweep up a comfy 2nd spot.
