Moderator's ReportOff the line, James Wright, although Alex bogged down at the start, needed to be mindful of the potential for incidents that left/right moving at the start can cause, this initial movement I believe contributed greatly to the carnage that followed. Whilst it may be annoying to get a worst start because of someone else it would have been better to follow Alex and potentially have another 24 laps to get round him. Contrast James's actions with Dan Leach who is in a similar situation behind a slower car. For this I am awarding a ten second penalty and a one race suspended ban which will expire after Monaco.
I have no choice but to exclude Alex from the race results for using the patch, however am satisfied that it was a mistake and not an attempt to gain an advantage. In fact if Alex had not have told me then I could not have told from the replay and I do not believe it contributed to the start line accident.

Moderator's ReportThe only incident of note was a coming together between Dan Leach and Richard Jerome on lap 2 at the Station Hairpin. Dan slid into the back of Richard under heavy braking. Fortunately, although pitched sideways Richard caught this and continued without much delay. Dan had to sit patiently facing the barrier while the rest of the field passed. Dan accepted responsibility for the incident and was clearing attempting to stop without hitting Richard - Warning to Dan Leach.

Moderator's ReportLap 3: Following the hairpin Neil Robertson spun and seems to attempt a spin turn with following cars in close proximity, at this stage of the race that is always going to be likely and as such I think a warning to Neil is warranted.
Lap 10: Barty Mee taps the back of Rick Osborn, pitching Rick into a spin. I would have penalised Barty for this if he had not waited but he let a number of cars go past including Rick.
Lap 22: Rick loses the car on his own and takes a trip into the dunes, from the position he is in I can see it is very difficult to get out and he has to reverse down the hill unfortunately onto the road and into the path of James Wright. I believe this should have been done more slowly, thus allowing the car to be turned on the edge of the road/grass verge. This has taken a lot of deliberation as it ruined James' race, however I think Rick was in a very difficult position and because of the nature of the track have decided to issue a warning and not a penalty. I would like to ask drivers to try to avoid reversing back onto the track in all instances if possible.

Moderator's ReportLap 1: Al Hawkins runs into the back of Neil Raine in turn 1. 5 point penalty to Al as this was avoidable and unnecessary at this stage of the race.
Lap 7: Paul Grillo was very lucky at hairpin in managing a 360 and retaining the lead! Lap 10: A three way tangle between Neil Robertson, James Wright and Jerry Hammond begins with Neil spinning, James can't avoid him and then Jerry has to run into James. Unfortunately Neil has to retire but this is a racing incident with no blame attached to any party. Lap 11: James runs into the tyres at the hairpin and Jerry Hammond can't avoid hitting him. Racing incident. |
