Congrats Tristan and Axel!
The Ferrari was too strong and so was Tristan. If I had a 5 speed transmission, I may have been able to take advantage of some of Tristan's early mistakes. The Ferrari really pulls away from the Mk. 4 while accelerating. I quickly saw I'd never be able to pass. Especially after seeing I'd have to tail Tristan onto one of the runways and then out brake him to pass. I doubt the Mk4 will out brake anything newer than 1955.
I used the tow to stay close for a few laps. Then I made a small mistake and lost a little distance. Then Tristan began lapping in the 2:41s and I knew I'd never catch him. I stayed close enough to capitalize on any mistake but soon after Phil let me lap him my engine failed. I was braking to enter the first runway with no throttle and suddenly I got a little poof. The crappy Ford engine died with a whimper. It sure wasn't a bang!
After a reset and pit stop, I pushed it hard until the end. I tried to improve my fast lap. I got within .1 seconds on the last lap but 17 gallons of fuel was too much weight to get a good and fast race lap.
I was so rusty that I almost opted for the super safe Porsche, but on a circuit like Sebring I felt that it might have been just a little too slow.
If you could have got into Axel's slipstream the tow may have allowed the Porsche to keep pace.
Thank guys. And thanks Axel, you're getting me to learn to drive some of the other GTs well. I've finally made some setups that work well in the big block GT40s and Mirage at some of the more difficult circuits.
