UKGPL SEASON 30 F2 CHAMPIONSHIP – Round 9 : Albi For this round we go to France, to be exact to the small town of Albi in the Midi-Pyrénées region. Racing first started on the Circuit des Planques in 1933, the pits and startline being on a short straight before the road twisted down into St.Antoine. At St.Juery the cars had to contend with an extreme hairpin bend, followed by a railway level crossing. The 5.531 mile circuit was shortened in 1951 to 1.859 miles, before being closed in 1955 following the Le Mans disaster. Racing resumed at the nearby Aerodrome in 1959 which is the circuit we now know as Albi. The Chicane du Sequestre was introduced in 1988 but we will be using the original layout as raced in 1967. Drivers will have a free car choice BUT Each car can be driven only once in this season!

Grats on the championship Tris, just a shame it could not have been a straight fight between the two of us Good luck to yourself and all still running.

That was a very eventful outing from my perspective! Battled with Clive, Axel & Roo predominately in the early stages before avoiding action for a collision ahead spun me out of contention (surprised as I'm usually the instigator is such situations ). That then put me into battle with Dean and Bastian for the rest of the race. It was hard fought, we all made a few errors and it was very open and exciting. I was beginning to wonder if my car had a target on it mid-race , but overall it was just great fun . Congrats to Tris, Clive & Jani for the podium. Hard luck for Iestyn on running dry towards the end.

Nice to be back, and what a race! Still using the old Saitek r220 (until Black Friday/January sales at least), so a chance to compare with last year and Logitech g25 - a tenth faster in qually, half a tenth slower in the race. Was fast at the start and passed Tris - I'd find out why later on. Seeing him so close behind me going into T1, by the time I braked and turned in, we both went off and bounced back off the hay bales on to the track. Ray was on the racing line behind us and couldn't slow down fast enough, with us now being slower on both sides of the track in front. Sorry about being caught up in the middle of a championship battle . After that, I managed to catch back up to 2nd place, but defended the wrong side from Clive and let him pass me at the hairpin. Thinking this was halting our advance on Tris, I then spun out at T1 after almost rear-ending Clive. Catching up again, a big dogfight ensued, once it was apparent we couldn't catch Tris any longer. Clive went off and caught back up again, before Jani caught a spinning Philippe in T1/T2. Then with two laps to go.. I saw what you only want to see at the chequered flag - 0.3 gal/15 psi! Tried my best to get it to the flag, but probably ran out too far away - Carlos pipped me to the line by two tenths or a car length! I didn't realise that the race was 4 laps longer than last year!

I've always been fascinated and rather keen on autocross but after today's T1-T2 fiasco, I cannot really recommend that it be tried in an F2 car.

I got off the line well, watched as Dean got squeezed off track by Axel, cut back across the whole track only to then turn in on the racing line whilst I was alongside & we had contact. Surprised that we don't all stay on our starting side of the track during the opening corners. No wonder there are so many lap 1 incidents at ukgpl.
I got away with the contact & had some great laps with Sam, Axel & Clive until I was caught out by Axel's braking at Virage du Parc & I was too close to avoid contact. Again, sorry Axel.
The rest of the race was spent with Dave at the back of the field.
Thanks admins, grats podium & Tris for championship.

I was a bit late with the qualy but managed to set up the car for the race. Start went well, and I was lucky to avoid both accidents in the first laps, then I had a good chase and some wheel-to-wheel battle with Clive and Iestyn, which really made my day. Unfortunately I could not avoid Philippe's spinning car when it was only 2-3 laps to go. Meanwhile fuel pressure started to drop but according to my calculations it had to take me to the finish, so I kept pushing and hoped that something would happen to Clive and/or Iestyn ahead Luck was again on my side as Iestyn had more serious fuel problems so in the last lap I could take P3. It was a great race (the first one for me since a very long time), many thanks guys! Congrats Tris on your victory! Thanks to the admins!

Sorry Roo but it seems you need new glasses Dean never had any overlap into T1! Look at the replay... With my pribluda settings I am allways well aware of any overlap, so I checked before I took the racing line. Dean took the gras inside what made him loose grip and so he went wide at the exit. He then left enough place for you, but you went to the left... No problem with your shunt later here, this happens when we have two different lines into a corner.

I didn't mean to offend, Axel. it just looked from my cockpit like Dean took avoiding action, but you're right, my contact with Dean was more me than him. I remember thinking, "oh, he's off" as I avoided him & then we had contact, so my apologies to the entire field ! (slinks off to find a dark hole to hide in )

...my contact with Dean was more me than him... My view: I figured you'd got your nose at least alongside me, so I tried to leave as much room as possible. That bend, though, you have to be at least slightly over to the right to make it without going off again at the exit (I was not trying to squeeze you at all). There was still room for you (Axel's overheads show this), but you came over more than I was expecting (or was necessary IMO). As soon as I was aware of just where you were, I tried to move left, but contact happened. Summation: I'd call it a racing incident, forget it and move on, except that others also suffered from it (apologies to Doni, Carlos, Bastian, Dave R., and Philippe). So if anyone wants to report it, to see if the mods feel that either or both of us deserve a reprimand for mucking with other's progress, PLEASE do so. There will be NO hard feelings from this corner.

Wow!!! what a fun race. Thanks to all of those I was battling with Just guessed at a car, could not remember if I had used the Mclaren before, so figured that would be fun. Could not match the fast boys in qually with full tanks, so did a qually run on low fuel and so glad that I did, because it showed me that my fuel guess was wrong for the race!! Fortunately I added a couple of extra gallons which saved me from the problem that Iestyn had at the end. Very sad to see some of the leaders go out so early, and one or two other incidents that took peple out of the race, but there were still enough cars around me to make things truly entertaining for all 36 laps. Grats to Tris on the championship and the race win. I think Iestyn was right about us holding each other back...........but it was great fun Still smiling.....
