Season 27 Historic Trophy - Round 10 - Watkins GlenThe season comes to close at Watkins Glen. This is the Papyrus original track, well known to us all. Tristan has already done enough to claim the championship but the runner up is wide open. There will be full moderation of lap one Red Zone and reported incidents for the rest of the race. Please submit incident reports within a week after the race so that the moderators report may be out before the next race. The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available. Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join. If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left. Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line. The race will be run under PRO rules so no resets are allowed. For THIS RACE, 2 liter cars must be selectedAs with prior rounds, the leaders are asked to restrict themselves to Group I and Group II. Wasn´t it 3 liters last time? Thought the smaller cars are on the run this time...

Maybe everyone should break the rule, and drive the expected 2 litre cars. It seems the fashionable thing to do.

Yes, we have to run 2 liter cars. As per rules we run 5 3L races and 5 2L races in a Season. Have edited the racepost and have corrected the initial Historics Registration post in Announcements section.
Sorry for the confusion.

Well, well, well...So it´s clear now and I was not spending my time in the wrong car while I was at practice in the US of A. Thanks for the clarification!

Race started fun at the front, lost the lead to Tommie who was on fire, and when I conceded to Tristan in the Big Bend lost it and spun...few laps later lost focus and forgot to slow enough in the Loop...might have been too aggressive in quali, sorry...wanted to improve the time, as there still was 3 tenths in it with tow...could have been a real blast all the way but I enjoyed the first 6-7 laps anyhow... Anyway car was too much on the edge, very fast, but very hard to hang on...good luck to those still running Not my season as well in Historics, 5 unforced errors mostly on Lap 1....

Woohoo! Great stuff, 3rd win this season if you count all championships, but of course 1 was pure luck. Although I suppose you must have some if you want to win! I picked the BRM as I thought it would be the most powerful 2 litre car, coupled with a 1965 setup I'd just found in the archives . Took a couple of laps to get up to speed as I didn't have any praccy beforehand, but was pleased to see a 1:08.3 early on despite the wrong gear settings. Tinkered with the gearing some more until it was right and managed to grab P2 at the very end of quali with a 1:07.92. Well pleased as quali is usually my weak point. At the start of the race I tried to take it easy, as suspected my car was much faster on the straights but I didn't want to cause an early race mass shunt like the last time around at Zeltweg, also considering my lack of practice. However Tristan was putting a lot of pressure on and by lap 6 or 7 I figured the field would be strung out enough to start battling a little bit. Because of the weakness of the Climax I could just blast by Robert on the straight, but was worried how much pressure he could apply to me in the draft. Surprisingly I soon found Tristan in my mirrors instead of Rob, perhaps still hindered by the Climax engine. Tristan was going great in the bored out '65 Climax Lotus, which also lacks some HP compared to the BRM, and eventually managed to take the lead from me. We battled on for several laps, Tristan being superior in the corners and me being faster on the straights, untill he appeared to have been caught out by something as I suddenly saw him driving on the grass in my mirrors. I didn't see Tristan again but Jethro appeared in my mirrors instead, having catched up. For some laps he was able to pressurize me, until he took the lead at The Loop. Now the roles were reversed and I started putting pressure on him, until he had a big slide coming out of the last corner, allowing me to regain the lead. From that point on he just kept piling on the pressure, going side-by-side multiple times. Unfortunately one of those time Dave R. happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time, and a collision ensued from which I was lucky to escape. I then had a little gap and despite Jethro giving his all and coming ever closer yet again, I managed to salvage first place at the checkered! Great race, glad I didn't hit anybody despite my lack of practice, and gave the establishment a good run for their money . Also grats to Doni for P3! Have to look at the replay but must've been an exiting race! Also grats all finishers!

Congrats Tommie, very well deserved! You're a real natural racer driving with the head, you show a lot of class and respect, always fun to race with you Also great job Jethro and nice FL, and Doni for podium! Tristan thoroughly deserved the championship, weird enough his first after several times being bridesmaid Exciting finish to the season with Dean clinching second in the points, just before his compatriot and archrival Doni. Great job guys, very consistent and rocksolid season by both of you, Dean with a win and multiple podiums for both as well! I'm particularly pleased for Doni, my former teamboss in oAo Andreas was very unlucky though, but also well done to you over the whole season. Thanks to Paul and Jethro modding the Historics, and Axel for always having his server available for online testing as well. Thanks to all drivers for racing. Won't do a full season next year, but might attend some races...it's for sure a fun mod, that I need to discover more...(I did sign up as a reserve in this year's 65 Pro, and made most races )

Sorry to Jethro. Hopefully he was able to continue and it seems his car was not affected by this collision. I thought it was better to be overtaken BEFORE the difficult final turns before the finish line, so I slowed down out of the line (if I didn't slow down I don't know how I could turn safely where I was). Unfortunately your 2 cars were arriving side by side and from my opinion it was too riskly to overtake a backmarker in that way on a narrow track (there was not so narrow when Schumacher and Hakkinen overtook Zonta in Spa 199X). One of you, Jethro, in this case should have wait ...of course, it's easy to say that after. No really important, but then my car was undriveable. Until that, I had a pleasant pursuit with Bastian car during quite all the race.

I just noticed I set the exact same time in quali and race down to the thousands, 1:07.905 . So I guess my limit was there.

Thanks for the kind words. Always hard to believe when you loose the whole race in the very first lap. But in the end it does not change much... So looking forward to the next races. Congratulations to the podium and the finishers!
