I think most of us discovered the invisible concrete block on the inside of Rascasse at some point. Those of us who found it in practice were the lucky ones and were able to adjust our racing line to avoid the problem during the race.
I'm sorry that running a track in reverse throws up these issues and especially sorry that T1, lap1 affected so many people's race.
Perhaps we can ask all of those who practice these reverse tracks offline to post warnings about any glitches they discover??
I was the car in 4th that got caught up in the T1 problems. I was cautious at T1 and stayed wide, but it did not save me from being harpooned by a car and getting stuffed into the barriers. I waited a few seconds realising that any attempt at a S/R would not work. When I did hit the reset, my car was launched about 50 mtrs into the air and I frightened the helicopter pilot who was filming up there...quite spectacular!!
By the time the chaos had cleared and my car was back on track I was last, and about 20msecs behind the pack.
My original plan had been to use the underpowered Ferrari on a track that rewarded handling over outright speed and save better cars for other tracks. To work, I needed to get away at the front of the field and avoid any holdups through incidents in the midfield. Well that plan worked for about 10 seconds!!
After my SnG there was not a car in sight at any point on the track and I was not hopeful of making up the ground, or even being able to pass cars if I caught them. But, what the heck! lets give it a go.
I have to say that I did enjoy the reverse direction around Monaco and it had a nice flow for me. Gradually I caught cars and through others errors and some wave throughs I climbed up through the list. There was no chance of catching Tim and Sam who were too fast and too far ahead, but David was tantalisingly around 300mtrs ahead.
With around 5 laps to go I caught David but he was not going to give up his 3rd place easily and he defended very well. The extra power of his FVA engine made it very difficult to find a passing opportunity with the wheezing Ferrari.
For several laps I was glued to his tail pipes hoping for a mistake, but although he got a little ragged in places there was no opportunity to get past.
Starting the last lap I was thinking that David was going to hold onto his podium place until, at Rascasse, he found the invisible wall and his car stopped dead. I clipped the rear of his car and for one awful moment I thought that I had wrecked my car too, but all was OK and I was able to crawl around the outside of David's stricken car and steal his 3rd place.
What David did not know, was that I was out of fuel and I could only crawl around that last lap finishing with 0.1 litres. He could easily have held 3rd spot if he had survived T1. Hard luck David.
