Season 26 Works Trophy - Round 5 - MosportThe first ever Canadian Grand Prix was held at Mosport in 1967 and was won by Jack Brabham. The circuit was used again in 1969 in a race won by Jackie Ickx. Jackie Stewart crashed out after tangling with a back marker, the privateer Al Pease, who was being lapped for the fourth time at only half distance. At the end of the race, Al Pease was disqualified and to this day remains the only driver to be disqualified for being too slow. More like something you would find in a GPL race than a real F1 event! For Season 26, all drivers must complete at least 50% of race distance to be classified. Race List = IGORServer = UKGPL_GPG IP address = 62.195.2.111 Race date = 09-03-2014 Race Time = race starts at 21:30 UK time Qualifying Time = Between 30 and 60 minutes, starting no later than 21:00 UK time Track = Papyrus original Variant = 67F1 Damage Model = PRO Race length = 50 minutes (laps 36) Password: see aboveReplays Available hereDriver lists can be found on the championship standings pageThe full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available. Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join. If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left. Moderating The red zone will be fully moderated for lap 1 only. For this event the red zone will be from the start to the exit of Moss. Other moderation will be on reported incidents only. However any incidents that occur in the red zone that are not reported by the drivers will be reported by the moderator. This will allow all affected drivers the opportunity to present their case before the incident is moderated. This should ensure there are no surprises when the moderator's report is published and hence appeals will be less likely. If you haven't received a PM about an incident before the link below the results table is removed, you can be sure that you will not appear in the moderator's report. The chassis token system is explained on the Works standings page. Please ensure you choose a chassis that is within your budget, which can be seen by hovering the mouse over your points total in the standings. I've had a Ghog leaguerace here some weeks ago, and because I have had hardly time to test here, I wil take the Brab I raced there, keeping the Eagle and Lotus option for 2 races, having saved tokens. It's important on racefuel, to set up the car not to bottom out towards T5A, under braking, just before Moss hairpin, as the car will compress a lot due to height difference. I use stiffer springs plus slightly bigger bump rubbers. More ride height will bring the center of gravity up, and that's not good for handling/speed. For the rest it's a track I have never raced much, and always regarded it as a downer track. However it's a nice tight rollercoaster track, with good rhythm, although little margin for mistakes. Also need to manage tiretemps again in the race, by running smooth and nice lines rather than pushing. Looking for a solid finish after 3 DNF's out of 4 races... Hopefully Lady Luck is with me this time, and that I don't mess up myself, knocking on unpainted wood!

Good advice! I going to take care of that now. I've been raising the ride height some myself.

I race at 60FPS in Ghog and here I have screenfreezes and FPS drops. Unraceble, but decided to try anyway...wrong...lost all motivation to continue in Works TBH...

Engine popped after lap 10. Shame as was consistently running 2nd and not making many errors, engine always seems to take an exception to me in this car.

My apologies for the shunt with Greg, I was relieved he could continue! I had two offs and a slide but had some luck this time, and when Jethro and Doni fell back I managed to save P2 . Off to Albi!

I was very glad too. It did put a pretty good handicap on me though. I couldn't carry as much speed into the highest speed turns and made the braking more difficult going into the steep incline before Moss. I lost at least .5 seconds a lap after that. I got the car setup good. It would consistently run about 1:22 flat on a light fuel load. I got a PB by .03 seconds in qualifying. I've been about .5 off my pre-race best in most, if not, all the other races. I went out for a second try thinking I might be able to get under 1:21.5 but didn't have enough time or fuel to do any better. It was better though that I started behind all of the more powerful cars. That appeared to be a good race start. All the cars in front of me and at least a couple behind me got through lap 1 unscathed. I was doing pretty good until Tommie got a bit impatient with me. I watched him catch back up with me and had just started thinking about where I was going to let him pass when he got me. Luckily only Ronnie got by me and I was able to get back on track just a little ahead of Clive. I couldn't pull away from Clive for at least two laps struggling with the cars handling. After that I slowly started gaining on Ronnie. I was just about the catch him and I started thinking, this isn't something I wanted to have to deal with. I hope he'll let me by within a couple of laps but his engine explosion made my work much easier. I'm pleased to get P4. Couldn't have hoped for better. Although I might have snagged another podium if I could have stayed out of trouble. Thanks for another fun day at the races!

I'm sorry to hear that! Glad you could at least snatch a very decent points finish . I had a moment with the Gpg server in quali, when all cars disappeared and the Q bar went up for about 5 seconds. Just when I thought I might disco, everything reappeared again . In the race I seemed to have an occasional warp here and there, nothing serious. When I had my contact with Greg there was some warping involved, I was certainly way too close for comfort but had a tiny bit of air when Greg suddenly went skywards, with me cursing...

Well... I needed a near-perfect drive and... Grats to our Ferrari boys, Art and Tommie, for scoring the victory and P2 respectively. A fine run by Greg in the Cooper to qualify very well indeed and come home a very worthy P4. Special mention by me for Izzy Davies for supreme co-operation as I came up to lap him. Very adroitly, he pulled off into pitlane to let me through with a minimum of muss and fuss. Very heads up driving. And after a fall, I caught him again and he again dived into the pits to clear the way for me. Gave you a wave there, Izzy! So... Qualifying went well and I set a new PB by a couple of tenths. Looked like I'd start P2 til Jethro threw in a qwik one late on and pipped me for the front row. Off the start, I managed to pull alongside Jethro on the run down to T1 and rim-rode it to come out ahead on the exit. I took it relatively easy for the first two laps til the tyres and engine were warmed sufficiently. I was prepared to let Art get away by a couple of seconds but no more. From then on, I'd look to hold the margin and possibly close. Lap05 and from close behind me, Jethro slipped off the road at the devilish T2 and fell to P4 as Tommie vaulted into P3. But that was short-lived as TvO faltered at T8 on the very same lap to drop to P5 behind Greg. Lap06 and the smallest of speed/positional errors at T2 had me off ever so slightly well down the hill and I had to yield to Jethro. Lap09 and I was off in T8. Tail got away from me and I spun off. Tommie up to P3. Very next lap and Tommie handed back P3 to me as he was off in T8! Lordy! Lap13 was certainly unlucky for Jethro. His engine failed spectacularly going up the back straight. Now promoted back to P2, Art was in a solid lead 14 seconds ahead. Tommie was not far behind me just four seconds adrift. I piled on the speed and started to whittle away Art's advantage a few tenths per lap but it was going to take a major development for me to make up that gap. Lap21 and I got a break. Art looped it in the hairpin and lost several seconds. Could have been a lot more but he did a full 360° to lose minimal time. His lead was down to eight seconds. Lap23 and Art's off in T3! A long slide through the grass verge has brought him literally into my sights just four seconds up the road. Gotta give 'er now! Lap25 and for all intents and purposes, I shoot myself in the foot. On an earlier lap, I'd snuck a sip of tea going up the back straight. I tried it again on this lap. I managed to slop it down my shirt front but got things back under control by the time I reached the crest. Or at least, I thought. Over the top, the Lotus wavered on braking, I caught the kerb on the inside and it sent me off into the kitty litter of T8. Shoulda just stayed thirsty. Recovering in P3 behind TvO, I had 10 laps to get back his four second lead. Art was long gone. It was during this stint that I came upon Iestyn for the second time where he again ducked into the pits to clear me. Way cool, Izzy! Lap29 and I loop it in 5B. Game over. At least as a challenge to Tommie let alone Art. From there, I just cruised it in for P3. Izzy passed me in my final spin as I got righted but was bored with pulling off into the pits to let me by so spun going into T3 on Lap32 to let me pass. Again... Glad to see that he held onto P8. Sorry to read that Robert may not be joining us in the future. Please reconsider, Bobbie. You're a class guy and a top gun.

Not the cleanest of races for me, but the end result was good so no reason to complain. It all started when, sitting on the grid warming up the engine, I decided to hit f12 to reset the sectors/lap times counter; this is something I usually do prior to the start, so it is easier to keep track at a glance of the pace I am keeping during a race. Something went wrong this time though, as I think I activated the in car chat in some way, and this in turn took the sound away. So I started hitting frantically a few keys on the keyboard, and I am sure amongst them there were both esc and enter, although probably not in this order otherwise I would have inadvertently retired myself from pole on the gird . Anyway, the sound came back but something kept flashing at the bottom of the screen, probably the in car chat was still open, and it came back to haunt me later on in the race.. The start went well, and I set off trying to keep a regular pace hoping to see the others hit trouble before me . When the gap started to widen to 10s plus, it became difficult to keep concentration. This is a rather treacherous track, and having too much time to think before the corners is never too healthy. Anyway, I ended up having one lazy spin at the top of the hill at Moss, and a slide onto the grass at T3 in the space of a couple of laps, around half way through the race. That curtailed my lead quite a lot, but then again whoever was behind me always made sure they returned the favour in a couple of laps or so, so I was never really pressurised. Then, had the scare of the race 3 or 4 laps to the end, when a Cooper spun in front of me along the slope that leads to Moss. Fortunately, I could see it very early on and was able to bring the car almost to a halt by the time I reached it. Still, I only just missed it, and even if we had crashed at very slow speed you never really know what kind of result GPL is going to dish out...And it wasn't over, as the following lap I decided to check who was where using prib, whilst buzzing away on the back straight. Very bad mistake, the sound issue came back with a vengeance, and I found myself hitting random keys on the keyboard in desperation, this time while driving...Fortunately I managed to hit the right key before the crest at the end of the straight, but at the price of some serious flickering at the bottom of the screen which greeted me for the remaining few laps, for some reason especially pleasant at the jump-brake right hander at the end of the back straight. At that stage I decided to just tiptoe to the end, glad to see the chequered flag of what should have been a much easier race.. Grats to podium and all finishers, and to Doni for FL. There were quite a few quick cars around this race, guess they hit more trouble than me in the end. Now I see theres some very quick and consistent people who have amassed a serious amount of tokens, so the remainder of the season should be rather interesting, starting from the next one in Albi. BB - my connection was rock solid last night...
..I wasn't though. Spent all day in the saddle, as the burst of good weather inspired me to get my sports bike out. Was knackered when I got home, and consiederd not driving at all. I should have take the BRM and maxxed my token haul, but I had been practicing with it and couldn't keep the tyre temps manageable. So I took the trusty Coop and did what I could. Mediocre qually was actually more than I expected, but race performance was depressingly familiar - lots of silly mistakes which eventually broke my engine with 5 laps to go (and cost me 2 places). One of those spins was just as Art was getting near to lapping me - I'm sure that gave him quite a fright. Sorry Art .....
So, all in all, 19 points won, rather than x pts lost. I have to be content, if not happy!

I had to cut back on the anisotrophic filtering and turn off the anti-aliasing to run 60fps. This weekend I had just started turning them back up to see how far I can go on 36fps. I didn't see much warping. Tristan's car does some jumping around in turn 1 on lap 1. It gave me a bit of a fright at the moment. On the server replay it looks like we come together and then I bounce him back to the inside line, but I never felt any contact. I'm sorry to hear that! Glad you could at least snatch a very decent points finish . It's cool. Everything seemed to work out in the end. I lost any opportunity to pick up another position but that could be a good thing. Tangling with Doni very well could have led to my demise. You probably ought to know this about me Tommie. I don't really know how to trail brake. I'm a left foot braker that rarely if ever uses the gas and brake at the same time. So I tend to brake early and I'm slower on entry than most of the fast guys. I see it in replays and races that I lose the most time under braking. I wasn't going to make the same mistake I made at the Ring this time. No matter how close you were I wasn't going to try to brake late. Well... I needed a near-perfect drive and...
That definitely didn't happen. I had you in my sights on laps 6 and 7. I also wasn't too far behind at the end. With all your troubles and had I missed my moment, you'd have seen a lot of me. I'm glad you got a podium spot on one of your home races. I hated Mosport when I first started driving GPL. The only track I liked less was Monaco. I still don't like Monaco but I've grown rather fond of Mosport. It is a tough track that is very easy to go off and turn 4 can be a real killer. It was only 5-10 minutes before qualifying started that I finally got turn 4 right. I ripped apart several Coopers nailing the end of the guard rail. Not the cleanest of races for me
I started deluding myself, thinking I'm really getting fast. I could have easily finished this race 20 seconds faster and that would have put me less than 20 seconds behind you at the finish. I didn't think about the difficulties you had. I would have expected you to average at least 1 second a lap better than me which you did, but I would have expected that time difference even if I had run a near flawless race. Attilio, I'm thinking in the same car, I'm not going to be able to get much closer than 1 second off your times. Hopefully, I'll be able to hold you off at least one more race in the championship standings. My power to weight ratio will be much better through the second half of the season. Congratulations Clive! I'm glad you were able to get the Honda to the finish. It looks you used the car for all it was worth. I thought your spin when I was coming up to lap you was going to take you out of the race. I tested that beast here but it was too difficult for me to drive here. After a hour of Honda practice it only took me about 5 minutes to get faster in the Cooper. It's good to see Iestyn got the BRM to the finish too. If he ever gets consistent with it, he'll place rather nicely in that beast also. And Andreas, I'm glad to see you get some decent finishes too. You're the only one that I actually think I'm faster than but you seem to be as consistent as me or better. Keep up the good work. It's got to be tough being placed in a division with such fast drivers.

Just trying to understand what is happening. Had to rejoin about 10 times in practise, due to wheel (FF is off sometimes), GPL screens that got stuck, and screenfreezing/FPS drops while driving. Finally did a reboot. That I did a 21 late practise was a miracle, under those circumstances. After start still stuttering, hoping it would go away, went off twice and that was that...was really frustrated after that... Sorry to read that Robert may not be joining us in the future. Please reconsider, Bobbie. You're a class guy and a top gun.
Thanks Doni, appreciate it! I'll continue in Works, it's too easy to quit, when things are not going my way... Congrats Attilio and podium! PS: found a lot of virii in my system. Hopefully this is the cause of my probs...
