Season 27 Historic Trophy - Round 9 - Sebring 67The penultimate race finds us in the USA at Sebring.
The first 12 Hours of Sebring was held on March 15, 1952, and the event would grow to become a major international race. In 1959, the racetrack hosted the first Formula One Grand Prix in the United States. Due to the poor attendance and high costs, the next United States Grand Prix was held at Riverside.
For much of Sebring's history, the track followed a 5.2 miles (8.4 km) layout. In 1967, the Webster Turn between the hairpin and the top of the track was removed and replaced with the faster Green Park Chicane, which was closer to the hairpin and allowed a flat-out run through a very fast corner to the top of the track and the runway; this made the circuit 50 yards longer. The circuit was also widened. Many of these changes were prompted by the 1966 12 Hours where 5 people were killed during the race. Another dangerous section was the Warehouse straight; after a crash where a Porsche went into one of the warehouses and into a crowd, the organizers installed a chicane to move the Warehouse straight further away from the warehouses and buildings. We will use the 1967 layout.
There will be full moderation of lap one
Red Zone and reported incidents for the rest of the race. Please submit incident reports within a week after the race so that the moderators report may be out before the next race.
The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available. Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join. If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.
Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.
The race will be run under PRO rules so no resets are allowed.
For THIS RACE, 3 liter cars must be selected
As with Round 8, the leaders are asked to restrict themselves to Group I and Group II.
Handicapping could well make a difference here but Tristan's wheels would have to fall off after a dominant season. Silver and Bronze are definitely up for grabs though so Dean may be able to take advantage.
