Thanks again Clive and congrats to Robert Smiley

I managed to get off the line this time but spun at the back of the field at the Old Hairpin, so rejoined with an empty track in front of me. Was just getting into a rhythm when car back of car stepped out coming down Craner and touched the grass, straight to barriers do not pass go, end of race.

I'm finding that the car for the events seems a bit livelier than the offline car that I've practiced with hence getting into 1.17s offline and just managing the 1.22s on-line qualifying in between crashes. Is there a different car set i can download?

regards

Malcolm look here this is a place where you find setups for all cars and most tracks  Wink

Was a great race for me, but at the end I could not stand Iestyns pressure and made a spin in the penultimate corner...

Hi Malcolm, have you been practicing with the F2 or F3 cars that GPL comes with? That might explain the difference in character. There's plenty of setups to download and try if you want to use any as a base http://gpltd.bcsims.com/?ir=Setups  Smiley.

As for my race, after the horror of Brands this race was a solid, consistent effort if somewhat lacking in pace. Nevertheless thanks to other people's misfortune I managed to bag my first point for this series. The first half was terrific entertainment with battles with Iestyn and Arf. The last 10 laps or so were rather quiet, but I enjoyed them all the same.

Congrats to all finishers.

Nice to be back after an enforced break. I'm not fully recovered yet - my foot hurt after qualifying, and had had enough after 1/3 race distance. However by that time I was in a close race with Sam's pig. Not sure I'd ever have got through, but just the fun of close racing kept me going for a while. I didn't expect it to last, and it didn't - eventually LF braking caught up on me, and I couldn't stop the car consistently, and lost rhythm. After that it was a case of limiting the spins and seeing if I could get home. Very happy to have qualified and finished in top 10.

Hope to join you for more races, just need to see how things go.

Rather lucky and undeserved win. On Lap 1 after Redgate went loose under power, and touched with Clive, who lost a few places I think. Sorry for that, mate! Changed positions with Bob who struggled out of the old hairpin. At some point went under him, but touched the inside kerb at Starkeys and went slightly up, pushing Bob into a 360, sorry mate!

Pelle had a comfortable 4s lead towards the end, but lost it out of the chicane with 5 laps to go or so. Also Bob retired, who already had caught up with me again. Then it was just a matter to bring the car to the finish.

Well done to Tim for P2 and Pelle for salvaging P3. Good job finishers! Smiley

19 racers, yesterday evening. the grid was full ...

I don't think I will race in Castle Combe, I never practiced this track and I am too slow for this series.
Moreover I will be on holidays next week ...so there will be one free place more Wink

Congratulations, Robert!  There's no such thing as an 'undeserved' victory!  Smiley

Super job by Tim to claim P2 in the Cooper(as per RF).  Shame we couldn't dice again.

A podium position for Pelle but, oh my!, what a disappointment that must be.  A terrific drive in the Red Ball Special to lead nicely for so long.  Sympathies.

A P8 was the best I could do on the day and perhaps I should consider myself lucky to score that.  I got a sniff of P7 at the S/F line at the checker as Ray ran short of fuel and spluttered over the line just a few feet in front of me.  If the S/F line were a hundred or so more metres down the road...

I figured this race to be a trial as my eyes were smarting the moment I awoke in the morning.  I had limited computer time during the day catching the Moto action from Brno.  Shortly before the start, I took eye drops which seemed to help slightly.  Off the grid, I had to feather the throttle for Dean who was a little out of sorts and Iestyn slipped ahead of me.  Down in to the Old Hairpin on Lap01, I have to wonder if Izzy collected the bollards at the apex as he seemed to lose a lot of speed and I had to check up to miss him.  Felt like I'd come to a full stop!  LOL!  This left me floundering well off the cam of the Maser and Martin slipped by for position.  Only moments later, I caught sight of Dean slipping off the road.  I managed to re-pass Martin coming off Coppice and then Clive had his NET glitch to promote me one more spot.

So far...so good.  Ended Lap03 in P10 not far behind Arf in the Brabham who'd slipped off at Hollywood and fell back to me.  The next laps were fraught with danger and confusion.  Arf's BT24 kept winking in and out all over the place.  My NET bars looked OK so I can only assume that his connection was playing up.  He would disappear for upwards of 3-5 seconds at a time.  It was impossible to judge exactly where he really was and a couple of times, in getting close, I voluntarily checked my speed to allow for his reappearance only to see that he was well down the road.  Completing Lap10, Arf vanished on the run into Redgate and this almost certainly lead to my brief spin.  I didn't lose much time but fell right back into the clutches of the Sinister One.  Over the next lap and a bit, I fought hard to keep Clive behind which, in hindsight, was foolish since my vision had next to collapsed by this time.  Everything was pretty fuzzy and some corners I bungled badly.  I couldn't see the kerb on the outfield under the Blue Bird until I was passed it!  Getting slightly out of phase for the run down the Craner Curves, I stubbornly held the inside line approaching the Old Hairpin and, sadly, short-changed Clive for room.  He skated off.  Sorry, CG.  My bad.

Rocket than took up the challenge to pass me and for a number of laps, we circulated in close company.  On Lap17, we came across Arf recovering from an off in McLeans and we both managed a pass as he overshot Coppice.  Allowing for this pass, I was slightly down on exit speed to start the run down Starkeys and Ray used the power of the Ferrari to gun me down.  I ran in high hoping to force the issue through Goddards but it was a done deal.  Back to P9.  For the balance of the race, I gave chase with little chance of a re-pass til the last lap when Ray was definitely off pace coming onto the pit straight for the final time.  He had just enough petrol to stay ahead and claim P7.

It was somewhat of a surprise in the last couple of laps to have my vision recover slightly but overall, it was hellish.  With this as the primary reason, I shan't be registering for S19 as a full-timer but rather as PT.  This will allow me to pick and choose which events appeal to me on the day provided I'm up for it.  I will, however, finish off this tribute season for Joe.

Disco after 2 laps.  I watched some of the replay, and what a great sight to see such close fighting.  Am I wrong, or are more drivers happy to race close to other cars, than awhile ago?  I wonder if default FOV has become more popular?  Something for the End of Season Review perhaps?

We were informed there'd be a mid-season review.  More recently told there'd be an end of Season review.  If there is no interest, there is no need. blink

After missing Brands I was pleased to make this one.  I raced here once before a few years back and narrowly lost out to Clive, so had some fond memories of the place.  I also had my old setup which I'd bolstered myself, it was okay but I really made a step forward with one of Wilke's ring setups?!

I managed a couple of laps of praccy but was only at 1:10, so was really pleased to improve in qualifying and astonished to be on pole, albeit in a rather decedent Brabham.

I thought I'd made a good start but was out-dragged by Pelle's whale.  He pulled a gap after a few corners but I was able to catch up a little later.  A spin then dropped my behind Robert and I had my hands full keeping Tim behind.  Had a good battle to get past Robert before we banged wheels and I spun off.  I struggle to maintain concentration, esp in the 67s and towards the end was spinning like a top.  I eventually got a bit too close to the bollards at the chicane and ripped a wheel off, doh!

Enjoyable racing nevertheless!

See you tomorrow,

Bob

Here!

Yes with 60fps and my bandwith settings closer racing is possible as there are not such big spikes of estimated car position

Good scrap Doni much enjoyed by me and hopefully yourself. I was surprised to see I was running out of fuel on the last lap and was lucky the line came when it did.

Grats again to Robert, Tim and Pelle.

In my opinion people can save a lot more time per lap by other means already  laugh laugh laugh laugh

Can I ask that there is no deliberate corner cutting.

I'm still at a loss as to why you potentially want the most realistic driving style banned, Ray (RFB and gearstick). I've shown that there isn't a sizeable advantage by getting similar times with stick, paddles, and now a realistic RFB driving style (although Tim M, Lorenzo Melli, Carsten Theile etc. already had). Speed is inherent in the driver! Ivan Tierno, Mark Barresi slaughter us with paddles in oAo and Groundhog.. racing line beats all.. Joe himself was bloody quick with RFB! Cool

I don't want it banned as it is clearly possible for drivers to get their fix of realism with a H shifter and shift times meeting the 0.222ms minimum.

I just don't see a lot of difference between saving time by cutting corners and saving time by cutting up the GPL exec file to achieve shift times lower than the 0.222ms minimum. Both are equally not in the spirit of fair play in my opinion.

If, as you say, drivers are just as fast with or without GPLshift, then I am equally at a loss as to why some drivers exploit it to achieve shift times lower than the 0.222ms minimum?

Whether this is an advantage or not the summary of poles/FL this season I provided in the end of season review elsewhere is food for thought and, in my opinion, a loud and clear yes it does. I provided this information as feedback to the admin/moderation team who said they would be monitoring this issue following the vote we had at the start of the season on whether users of GPLshift should use the Fairshift
utility to restrict shift times to the 0.222ms minimum. NB 12 drivers voted and by a majority of 2 is was decided not to use Fairshift.

I have been happy to race to the rules decided by the majority and admin/mod team for this season and have enjoyed some great racing this season with yourself and everyone else.

Apologies if this should really have been in the end of season review thread but I did not wish to be rude and not reply here.
