Moderator's Report

A great win for Fulvio Policardi around the streets of Adelaide. Dean took the runners up spot and Clive rounded the podium, despite an interesting last lap between the pair of them.

Dave Rainier provisionally too the Privateers trophy this time out, but a collision with Fran paid to that unfortunately. The resulting penalty gives the win to Dave Curtis.

Three incident reports this time out. Findings are below:

Server replay time: 0h02m39s

Bob gets a better exit out of the last corner and tries to pass Fran on the pit straight. The torque of the Maserati engine keeps Fran level with Bob as they approach the chicane. Fran, unsighted to where Bob is, takes his line as if Bob wasn't alongside him. Bob does his best to avoid by moving closer to the pit wall but contact was inevitable with Fran taking his line.

This situation has occurred many times, with the same driver unfortunately. I may sound like a stuck record, but this is why Pribula is such a useful tool as the mirrors in GPL aren't fantastic. Listening to other driver's engine note can help too. If in doubt, don't move across the circuit.

Bob didn't do anything wrong, his attempt at a pass was legitimate. Unfortunately the blame in this instance has to lay with Fran.

Server replay time: 0h04m39s

Billy gets caught out of Jack 'O's braking point into Wakefield turn. Despite slamming on the anchors, he gives Jack the lightest of touches which causes Jack to pirouette.

Jack's braking point was consistent on this lap with his others. Bill typically braked later on his clear laps. Simple rear end shunt on Bill's part.

I've applied a one place penalty on this one due to Bill's efforts at avoiding the collision.

Server replay time: 0h10m13s

Dave Rainer goes into Rundle road a bit hot this lap and collects Fran up ahead. Fran typically takes a wide line at the corner and didn't deviate on this lap. Dave typically took more corner speed than Fran on his other laps, but it was debatable whether he would have made the corner given the extra speed he took on this lap. Fran was an innocent victim in this instance.

Having played with the Honda in practice I thought it safer to take the Brabham...which I did until we were all kicked out. Rejoining with 11 mins left I was surprised to find myself back in the Honda...but in the spur of the moment I decided to not risk failing to rejoin, or block another being able to use one of the remaining spots, and went for it. To say that I was surprised to qualify 4th is an understatement, but apart from a spin on first lap, I really enjoyed this race. I found a rhythm and managed to hold it, soon picking up Doni and soon after we caught Andreas. I think Doni and I were a little faster, but it still took a little mistake for Doni to get past him, and I was looking forward to my battle for position...sadly spoiled by another moment for Andreas, and I passed easily as he tried to regain control. Bad luck Herr G.

I don't think I was fast enough to pass Doni, but pleased I could keep up with him, until we came up to some back markers. I think it Phil who politely let us both past, and maybe Fran who ruined our little race by deciding to fight me even though I think you were a lap down? Doni got away, and it took Fran a little while to see that I wasn't Phil, and let me through. By that time Doni was well gone, and I never got the chance to work out if I could catch him because of a ****** disco...

Fun night...

Also had some fun at Snetterton on Tuesday at a bike track day - first someone asked for too much gas coming out the last corner 6ft in front of me, and low sided off his bike. I had that horrible moment where I knew I was either going to hit the bike or the rider, and couldn't do anything about it.....and yet ended up getting inbetween them... After lunch some nobber took his iPhone out on track, and when it fell out of his leathers me and a few other rode over it and cut it in half!! Expensive mistake for him...we were more glad it didn't cause us to go down.

Cheers

Arf

Due to the restart of the server i forgot to look at my setup.I have raced with the default and this explain my bad feeling with the brake, but the big problem was that i don't had fuel enough,S&G at half race.Apart from this ,some incident have ruined the race.
Sorry to Baab,i have not noticed the car on my right and also not expected.Only after the replay i have understood what happen.

Sorry Francesco. I was surprised by your early braking and my car was sliding on the turn where we have an accident.

My start of race was very bad, I made two great mistakes on laps 2 and 6.
After that, everything went well for me.
I should finsish 1st (?) of privateers ...before moderation, just behind Dave C.

massive disco 20 mins left in prac
Sorry about that gents, I've no idea what happened there. The server was still running but I couldn't reconnect? There had been no problems during testing. Anyway restarted server with 15mins qually and the race seemed to go OK.

A real freeze is mostly track related when you step into a gap in the track.
Another track issue is a faulty continuity that makes mass dicos after a while - like at bsarthe.

The biggest problem for the server is when there are several warping clients,
the server has to compensate the difference of prediction and reality - where will he go to - where is he?
This can  make disconnections when it becomes too bad.

And most of all it is the i-net, no problem if you are surfing through webpages,
but keep a stable undisturbed connection over 100 or more knots is allways a gambling...

What exactly is the gap...can't it be fixed.... i usually drive the same line, as everyone....is it that small?

Maybe i would need knowledge about Track building to understand....

Track building is afaik like building a Carrera race circuit with modules.
Sometimes there will be small gaps between them because of a banking, curves or up and down elevations.
There is a very low tolerance of GPL...

Ginetto descibed it somewhere in SRMZ  Roll Eyes

Francesco should know he built Killarney!

At Killarney the problem that Axel found(rail effect) was due to a trace inside the track. At Killarney i'm quite sure that there is no gap.
Is possible your supposition Axel but in this case Bastian can do nothing. The question is why someone have freezing and other no.
Happen to me to have freezing also driving alone ,not online, and i have not found an explanation. For sure there is something wrong in my tack camera 2 at Monza. When i look a replay with this camera the block of the game is sure.

I think I've identified what happened.  I haven't used the server for a few weeks (between seasons) so I put Windows updates on to check for updates. Unfortunately I forgot to disable it before the race and Windows decided to update during qually (I know that because I got the dreaded "do not switch off your computer we are installing updates" message when I tried to shut the server down). Sorry again gents, I'll make sure that can't happen next time!

For the record my understanding is that disco problems tend to be associated with the server, whereas screen freezes tend to be associated with the client. There are a plethora of reasons in either case (some have been discussed above) but I find it difficult to imagine a scenario where a simple loss of data over the internet would cause a screen freeze.  There are dozens of reasons why something on the client could cause graphics problems.

Sorry to Baab,i have not noticed the car on my right and also not expected.Only after the replay i have understood what happen.

I guessed you hadn't seen me Fran, you can usually tell when someone's alongside due the change in sound no worries tho, I put myself in that position.  Glad we could both continue, your car actually then got me a second time whilst you were rolling backwards!  I joined late with the BRM with zero praccy so no biggy re the incident, I was running at the back then when I caught Dave Curtis I got screen freeze.  This track + 60fps seems to cause issues, I'm not a Luddite nor nowt but I didn't have issues with 36fps here in the past.  I'm not suggesting we go back to 36, maybe we can test the combos....perhaps we already did with the fun races?

Managed a few reasonable laps and was happy with the Dark BRM setup I used, if it was a little understeery.  For some reason my brake pedal stopped working so I mapped my clutch pedal to brake, only I then forgot at the first corner, I don't think I hit anyone but may have surprised a few as I scythed my way through to the gravel in a state of confusion!!

Cheers for hosting,

Bob.

I like the way the championship table is laid out with a combined league & Works & Privateers. Thanks to Phil for getting this organised.
