Season 34 – 1955 Grand Prix – Round 2 – Spa-Francorchamps

The second race in the 1955 Grand Prix series takes us to Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium.  Designed in 1920 the original triangle-shaped course used public roads between the Belgian towns of Francorchamps, Malmedy, and Stavelot. The track was intended to have hosted its inaugural race in August 1921, however the first car race was held at the circuit in 1922. Spa was the fastest road circuit in Europe at the time, and it had a nasty reputation for being dangerous and very fast- it was a circuit known to be one for the brave, and most drivers were frightened of it. The old Spa circuit was unique in that speeds were consistently high with hardly any let-up at all for 3–4 minutes. This made it an extraordinarily difficult mental challenge (& ridiculously easy to crash).

Handicapping and chassis allocation.
This season the 1955 Grand Prix cars will again be using a token system which allows drivers to purchase any chassis of their choice for a given number of tokens as published on the championship standings page. Drivers classed as Amateurs will be allocated an additional 10 tokens.  The token allocation will not be managed in SRou this season so (unlike the 67F1 Works and 67F1 Privateer divisions) the tokens available to each driver will not appear in the championship table (when the mouse pointer is hovered over the driver's total).  Rather, the available tokens will be published in the race announcement. See table below.

Available Tokens:
Note: These are the tokens available to each driver before the 10 tokens are added for making the race start.

Looking forward to this, even though I don't often get to see the finish line at Spa in any guise!

Last year I think that I limped to the finish after vaulting the Armco at Les Combes after a couple of laps.

Hoping for better things this time.

I'm looking forward to it as well, not sure which car to take !I did a few laps in the Merc SL,its fast, but is it fragile ? how much can you safely rev it to for race distance

Personally, I think that there are too many corners involved to make the SL an option for me.  Some like it.  It has never struck me as being fragile.

It is also a difficult race and if you are going to "invest" such a pile of Thornton Dollars I would be looking at the odds of getting a return for my investment, as opposed to stuck to a tree somewhere.

My server is running and I will try to keep it going until the race as I'm trying to encourage some of the PDLR racers to join us.  However, they are a bit wary of the 60fps.

The Lancia is a good car and can usually keep up with the SL by slipstreaming.  Still a lot of dollars though.  You mainly want something that you can get to the finish.

Much appreciated.  ;-)

I need someone to slipstream so that I can settle on a gear ratio that isn't going to blow the engine when I follow all the fast cars down the straight to Masta!

We are snowed in here, so nothing better to do than get some pre race practice for Spa.
If you need a tow truck Clive, post on here when you will be on line and maybe we can hook up?

Edit....Just checked Igor and I am not seeing UKGPL-4. There is a UKGPL-10 for Tripoli, but that is for 67 mod?

Thanks Clive.

I probably won't get on my pc until this evening.

But don't let that stop you from practicing!  ;-)

Angry  I set it off in a loop this morning before I set off for work. I'll have a look when I get home and find out what is going on.
