Season 36 – 1955 Grand Prix – Round 4 – Oakes Field, Nassau
The fourth race in the 1955 Grand Prix series sees us taking a boat across the Atlantic Ocean to Nassau in the Bahamas. The first Nassau Trophy Road Races meeting for Sports Cars was held in 1954 on the Windsor Field Course. For 1957, the meeting was moved to another airfield location, the 5 mile Oakes Course, which was closer to the main population areas on the island. The new course, despite being quite bumpy in places, was relatively well-received, though there were a number of close shaves near the pits as it was too close to the racing line. To combat this, the race direction of the track was changed to clockwise in 1958. The circuit was also shortened to 4.5 miles by cutting out the original Blackbeard's Bend and Ecky's Twist, whilst a new left-right-left corner combination was built to connect the Sassoon Straight and Bethell's Pass, cutting out the tight hairpin which had previously taken the cars off the runway. Due to much needed track repairs and the lack of additional funding by the Bahamian government, as well as competition from more races running in December, the event was discontinued after the 1966 meeting. It is the clockwise 4.5 mile Oakes Course that we will be using for tonight's race. Please read the championship specific rules on the championship standings page.

Sorry gents, I haven't had time to do the moderation. I'll get on with it as soon as I get a chance. It won't change the outcome. In the current system penalties have no effect on the following races (i.e. don't need to start at back of grid etc).

With this one and the next two I shall have to test a good deal more than the connection!

.......and lots of run off with "sticky" sand. Perfect I prefer trackside bollards that tear the wheels off. That means that over enthusiastic aliens can't come back at me!

I could not agree more gents. The name, "Oakes Field", did ring a bell but I just could not recall what the track looked like, so I was forced to break my zero preparation rule and take a quick recce on the server this afternoon. Once I had reacquainted myself with various trees and undergrowth, I remember that we did a couple of Can Am races ( I think) around here a couple of years ago. But as we all know, any previous knowledge of a track is of no use at all when you roll out of the pits in a '55 car!! Maybe I will raise my ride height so that I can ride over those "bumps" and gain an ( unfair) advantage lol! Looking forward to the hostilities on Sunday evening, but totally undecided about which car to use. I wonder if the more powerful cars will be quicker getting off the corners and down those short straights, OR, will a nicely balanced car simply car carry more speed through the same corners and shave off time.?? I was only on the server for about 10 mins, but on a couple of occasions the frame rate dropped to below 30fps?? Not sure if that was server related or something at my end?? More than a little disconcerting as there were no other cars on the server at that time , so I might jump on again before the race and see if the prob persists.

Looked like a fairly clean race. The track was stable for me. Did anyone have problems? It is the first time we have used this track so it is useful to have some feedback.

Hi Phil,
Track was steady as a rock for me. I never noticed any messages saying anyone had a disco, so appeared very stable. Never been there before tonight other than a bit of practice.
found it a bit difficult to learn at first but it got easier.
Really would recommend it for future races, hopefully the rest of the bunch agree. might be cool with something other than the 55s I believe it was used back in the day for most types of cars. from sportscars through formula cars to Can Am.
It was a great start, with no FPS drops or cars dissapearing and reappearing as can sometimes happen. no blips or anything for me for the whole race. and im on a fairly old low powered PC.
enjoyed the race, had a few decent laps on Tomagos tail and we run well together for 6 or 7 laps i guess, my tyres started to go off a bit and I lost a bit of concentration and did a bit of gardening.. after that I was running as the tail end charlie.. Tomago was driving a nice steady race and it was cool to be racing. at one point we were side by side drifting through a corner, cant wait to see that on camera from the replay.. the kind of thing that makes GPL so special.
only pleased that I never got lapped for a change. LOL!
some fantastic fast laps from the guys up front.. congrats, and sorry to hear about Francescos clutch problem.

i had fps drops and reduced the graphics, then it was fine for me, only little at Lap 1 in the race.
Race was ok, once or twice trouble in the last corner, so i lost connection to phil an dulima. Nice work in the connaugth. Fulvio always in my back to put pressure.
I should have done any practice before...
