Season 36 - Stirling Moss Memorial Race 2 – Goodwood

This is the second of two races to commemorate the life and career of Sir Stirling Moss. Commonly recognised as the greatest driver never to win the world championship.

This race is at Goodwood, which is situated near Chichester, West Sussex, close to the south coast of England, on the estate of Goodwood House. In 1962, Stirling Moss was competing in the International 100 race for Formula One cars when, towards the end of the race, he was attempting to pass Graham Hill’s BRM V8 on the outside of Fordwater bend when his car shot onto the grass and struck a low bank protecting spectators. At the time of the accident Stirling was two laps behind Graham Hill, who went on to win the race. Stirling was delayed by a stop for attention to his gear change mechanism and carburettors, and was in no position to challenge for the lead; nevertheless it didn't stop him trying to unlap himself.  The accident finished his career as a professional driver but throughout his retirement he raced in events for historic cars, driving on behalf of and at the invitation of others, as well as campaigning his own OSCA FS 372 and other vehicles.

We will be using the new version of Goodwood for this event. In the Track Database it is entitled "Goodwood Motor Racing Circuit - 1965 - 1st Sunday Mirror International Trophy". Please make sure you use this new version of Goodwood. Please don't try to join the race with the older less stable version.

There will be a free car choice for this event however the faster drivers are encouraged to take one of the slower cars.

This is a Non-Championship race, so unlimited free Shift-Rs are allowed. There is no need to carry out a Stop and Go in the pit lane if you make a Shift-R.

As you say Fulvio, a nice gift.  I saw him driving Rowan Atkinson's Mk7 Jag at the revival some years later.

I'm awful in 65's so I shall look for a quick car.  If I can remember which ones they are.  I seem to think that they are all much the same apart from the BT7.

Clive,

In the 65 mod the BT7 & Cooper are underpowered. The other cars are at a similar level although the Lotus & Brabham handle a little better - at least for me.

I saw Sir Stirling drive a few laps around Goodwood, in 2010. I think he was driving a 50's car. I've proved my memory is still functioning because he's featured near the start of this promotional video clip.

BTW - love the new Goodwood track. Looking forward to Friday!

Thursday, we didn't run on Friday because it would have clashed with the Geli race.

Hi

Does anyone else get a pretty sizeable FPS hit when they approach the right-hander prior to the chicane at Goodwood? I presume it's down to the grandstands, etc but my system drops from a solid 60fps all the way round to about 30fps without any other cars on track  wacko

Might have a play with the anti-aliasing settings, etc tonight

Ian

- check "disable intel speedstep" in GEM settings if you have intel CPU

- a medium NVidia or AMD GPU needs high quality settings to be pushed in 3D mode, else it idles in 2D and has fps drops.

I think that it is more difficult to see where you are on this version.

Cheers pal  Smiley

I'm running on an AMD CPU but will have a play around with the Nvidia graphics settings

Ah ok,

can you tell me wich AMD CPU?

Older AMD PhenomII can be modified on the desktop, FX and newer must be set to full throttle in bios...

Here are my GTX 960 settings: http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=8298&#entry145199

Are you running OpenGL or DirectX? OpenGL in my pc work better also at Spa67 that has same fps problem.
Mod65 has a light version too for those that have low end pc.
Hope it helps
P.S.
You can reduce levet detail to 70% too to see if it helps

Since re-building my OS and GPL install, my graphics have been a little suspect.

I am running an Nvidia1080 and in recent races I was getting random FPS drops down to 30fps at times, where before the re-build it was rock solid at 60fps. Resolution is set at 4096x2024 @60Hz ( I think that is correct, but anyway very close to those values)

I just tried the connection to UKGPL-4 ( and -10) on Igor to be ready for this evenings race at the New Goodwood track. With just myself on track I was seeing FPS as low as 28?? So I turned down the detail bias to 70% and could not detect any improvement. Then I tried adjusting the Rasterizer settings in GEM and only succeeded in making the mirrors blurred!!?? lol. I need an answer to that issue for sure!!

So, followed Axel's link to his settings for the video card and adjusted mine to match his, using my very limited German to identify his values. My settings appeared to be set as default, which makes sense as it was a fresh install of the Nvidia control panel. But when the Nvidia settings were upgraded I rejoined the server, I still had blurred mirrors and now frame rates are as low as 12fps? also the frame rate does not go above 31fps when the car is stationary in the pits...…..which is not what I had anticipated, lol.

I took part in a UKGTL race last night ( ironically also at Goodwood) and even on the Nvidia default settings I had no problems. So I am guessing that this is all about GPL not registering as a 3D graphics application and forcing the graphics card to do some work?

Clive
GTL is a modern game vs GPL! The graphic settings for GTL are set within the game.

GPL needs some AA and quality settings done in the GPU settings as they were not available in 1998!

Your 1080 falls asleep when you run GPL as it is not stimulated to the 3D mode.
Please look for the NVidia settings I have posted in the link above...

OK, I applied Axel's settings and with some more testing I have…..

Offline - the frame rate is 60.04 - 60.10fps  everywhere. But I still have blurred out mirrors??
Online - max frame rate is 30fps, dropping to 12 at times?? with no other cars on track, and still the blurred mirrors.

If I was not sure that it was not possible, it is as if the servers are set to 30fps?

UPdate...resolved the fuzzy mirrors problem. But the frame rate is still very bad online??? but perfect offline? I would not want to think that it is an issue with my internet connection?
Update 2...Still have 30fps online, but once I am out of the pits it does not appear to drop from 30fps. Even if I spin the car at high speed, the fps is still at 30? I have tried adjusting the detail slider and with that down to 50% and the details in mirror and trackside objects reduced I get as high as 48-50fps, BUT then there are some wild swings in the frame rate from 50 fps down to 12fps.
