Season 36 – 1955 Grand Prix – Round 9 – Hockenheim
The ninth race in the 1955 Grand Prix series finds us at Hockenheim in Germany. The track was originally called "Dreieckskurs" (triangle course) and was built in 1932 using roads in the forest as an alternative to the Wildpark-Circuit in Karlsruhe. The track was used for motorcycle racing and was expanded to be used as test track for Mercedes-Benz and Auto Union in 1936. In 1938 the track was drastically shortened to 7.5 kilometres and it was renamed the "Kurpfalzring". This name was used until 1947 when the unchanged layout was renamed again to "Hockenheimring". This version of the circuit, which was used in 1955, consisted of the original two long straights, with the Ostkurve in the forest and the original hairpin inside Hockenheim joining them together. In 1965, when the new Autobahn A 6 separated the village from the main part of the track, an updated version of Hockenheim circuit was built, which incorporated a new "Motodrom" stadium section. Two fast chicanes were added after Jim Clark was killed on 7 April 1968 in a Formula 2 racing accident.  A small memorial was placed at the site of his accident near the first chicane. In order to improve safety even further, the track was lined with crash barriers in 1970. But the track was still dangerous and claimed the life of Patrick Depailler in 1980. So in 1982, the first chicane was made slower and a third chicane was added at the Ostkurve (east curve). In the early 2000s, Formula 1 officials demanded the 6.823 km (4.240 mi) track be shortened and threatened to discontinue racing there.  So the state government of Baden-Württemberg secured the financing for a redesign by Hermann Tilke ready for the 2002 German Grand Prix. The new "Tilke Track" was not universally popular and many drivers preferred the long circuit. Sadly the old circuit was torn up and replanted with trees thereby preventing any chance of reinstating the long circuit for Formula 1 or indeed using it for historic car races.

Tonight we will be using the 1967 version of the long track that doesn't have the three chicanes.

Sort of looking forward to the last 2 races in this series with mixed feelings after recent results.

I did myself no favours by crashing at Grenzlandring and losing a handful of what would now be, very valuable points.

Aintree might have been a place where I could have scored better and would have hoped to be in contention for a win, but I still had to drop a score somewhere so it was maybe not so bad as I was unfit to race anyway.

Now, there are sufficient tokens to take any car that I choose for the last races, but after my operation I just don't have the ability to wrestle with them as I usually do  Undecided.
I have had to back off the FF on my wheel and try to develop a less aggressive approach.......but it does not come easily to me and is definitely not the fastest way for me to circulate lol.
I will be doing my best to make Clive L work for every point, but it is clear that even if, by some miracle, I finish 1st in both races that is not enough. It ain't over until the fat lady sings, but Mable has been in the shower this morning and the signs were not good!!!

Most unfair to invoke images of Mable in the shower on race day!  Most be something in the rules about that.

Does Phil have a problem with the race server?

Not seen it yet to check connection etc.?

And check that I'm using the correct track!

Race server is upon IGOR for you to check your connections. Sorry it was a bit slow to appear today. I didn't want to touch my computer until I'd got all the garden muck off my hands. hammer

It was excellent while it lasted

You don't win a race on the first corner

The guy comes like an angry bull

If you didn't hit me, would hit three or four more

I leave my indignation and my sadness, I'm leaving the championship

Hopefully next time, pilots like that, have more awareness and don't play the joke of others

I was in a good battle with the Mercedes of Paul but again the camshaft made a bad joke. This time ,at least, happen after 15 laps not one.
The Mercedes(not SL) is fast but if i'm able to stay attached to the rear is possible to engage a battle.

Well that one was much better. been doing a little practice and listening to advice re the 55s.   and it seems to be slowly paying off.

so good to see you having less problems Franco..  sad news about the camshaft, but at least no disco or controller/steering problems.

It was great fun to be battling away for 4 or 5 laps.. brilliant fun and always nice to race with other like minded gentlemen racers.

and I must congratulate you that on the marvellous recovery from that magnificent slide you pulled off in front of me.. great driving sir!

Tragic first lap for me Sad
Got a decent qualy, starting 4th and hoping to keep up with Loynes and the other two Mercs of Evil and Greg at least for a while.
Approaching the stadium my game froze for about 2 seconds. Think about something scary! My last sight had been Loynes in front of me and Tagomago on my left, so I had no idea of what to do. When my image was back I was already crashing. Looking at the replay I saw I touched Tago's car, but it seems he could continue losing some places, though Sad So sorry about that

Well, it seems the podium at Aintree was something out of the reality when it comes to my luck with the 55s Undecided
Hope at least to have a decent race in the final round.
Stayed in the server to watch and there were some great moments, lots of battles for different positions!

Grats for the win, Greg! You were flying! Also, grats Loynes and Phil for the podium and all who finished!
