Season 39 – 1955 GP - WORKS – Round 7 – Brno The seventh race in the 1955 Grand Prix series finds us at Brno in Czechoslovakia. The original circuit which dates from 1931 was approximately 18 miles (29 km) of public roads on the outskirts of Brno. The start was located in Bosonohy and it ran in an anti-clockwise direction through Kejbaly, Libusino, Kohouvotice, Žebětín, Ostrovacice and Veselka. The circuit retained this layout until 1937 when war brought racing to a close. In 1949 Brno re-opened and on 25 September 1949, a Grand Prix race was held on the street circuit. The race was run clockwise on a shorter 11.1 miles (17.8 km) layout, which turned right at Veselka, bypassed Ostrovacice and entered Žebětín from the south rather than the west. In spite of a crowd in excess of 400,000 people, this would be the last Grand Prix for cars on the old street circuit. The race was won by Peter Whitehead a Ferrari 125. Whitehead had several race wins, including the 1938 Australian Grand Prix and the Le Mans 24 Hours in 1951, but he is also notable as the first person to whom Enzo Ferrari ever sold a Formula One car. It is the same car he drove to victory in this race. In fact, the 125 was the first Formula 1 car Ferrari produced ready for the inaugural Formula 1 season in 1950. Numerous changes were made to the street circuit until it was finally closed in 1987 in order to move the racing onto the newly purpose-built race circuit situated just off the original course, between Ostrvacice and Zebetin where the races continue to this day.

Hi Admins,
Regarding championship final classification:
"The final championship positions will be determined after each driver has discarded their worst result."
What would be considered worst result? Worst result in a race as a starter? Worst result in a race as qualified?

Ah! That's interesting, I expected to have to discard two results but I see that it is only one. On another note, since we are at another narrow road circuit, it would be appreciated if drivers didn't try to defend their position by just driving down the centre of the road! Please choose a side and stick to it on the straights without any weaving about. I've been killed once this season by such tactics.

A missed race can be the worst result Cool! I've trashed enough races already On another matter, is it possible to run the works event in another server? UKGPL10/11 (217.155.118.42)? Lately I've been getting pings fluctuating slightly above 300ms at UKGPL04, as in UKGPL11 now is around 240ms.

Hi Leo I've set the works server (UKGPL05) up with a 500mS max latency, that should allow you to reliably connect. Hopefully your ping stays below 300mS most of the time so that you don't warp too much. I've discussed this with the other server providers (Dave Curtiss and Cookie) and they doubt swapping servers will help. The main limiting factor is internet traffic which varies from day to day and is outside our control. Our servers and domestic broadband connections are pretty much the same. Looking at iGOR, I get pings of 1 to UKGPL04 and UKGPL05 (not surprising because they are both on my LAN) and I get a ping of 49 to UKGPL11. I'm getting pings of 54 to GPLRacer's server in Germany and 138 to oAo's server in Indiana USA. There are no Brazil based servers on iGOR at the moment so I tried a speedtest site ( https://www.speedtest.net/) and I'm getting pings of 234 to a speed test site in Brazil. If you try the speedtest site and connect to a server in Manchester UK (probably the nearest city to me that will be listed) that should give you the absolute best ping you could expect from my servers. What pings are showing up on iGOR for you? We need to compare all the UKGPL servers on iGOR at the same time and see how they compare for you. Comparing speeds on different days is not a viable comparison. So when you say you are getting faster pings on UKGPL11, is it on the same day at the same time?

Hi Phil,
First, I appreciate very much the effort to help me join you guys for the events.
When I said I had faster pings on UKGPL11 than UKGPL04, it was at the same time, yesterday, same time of our events. But this pattern have been repeating every day looking at IGOR.
Speed tests fro servers in Manchester have been around 260ms.
Again, thanks for the help.

You're welcome Leo, thanks for the feedback. So it looks like 260mS is the best you can expect from UKGPL04. So now we need to work out why you are getting longer times.
Are UKGPL05 and UKGPL04 showing the same ping? They are both behind the same router and are on the same broadband connection. So if they are different then it is something associated with my hardware, I might be able to do something about that. If they are the same, then it suggests my broadband ISP is the limitation, I can't do anything about that (without changing ISP).
If my ISP is the limitation then swapping to UKGPL11 might help. If we can confirm that is the case I'll have to chat to Dave and Cookie (the other server providers).

I am monitoring UKGPL04/05 at IGOR and they both fluctuate slightly above 300ms, hitting 305 to 315, not that much above the target. 11 at around 250ms. It was like that last Sunday and at one point the ping went down just enough for me to join the server. Not much we all can do about it. I'll be as careful as possible around others today. Maybe qualify in pole and desapear in front come the green flag won't cause an trouble to others

Thanks for the feedback Leo. It looks like Dave has a better ISP than me.

I made too many silly mistakes and I was very lucky to get to the end, the Mercedes is a very solid car. At one point I went wide on one of the very fast left handers. I knew I wasn't going to make it so I headed for a gap in the trees. Clive was behind me and he must have wondered what I was playing at. Anyway after spinning on the grass for a while I got going again. No harm done. The championship is very tight. Clive is leading but he has to drop a score so his net total going into the last round is 199 (218 -19). The top 4 are pretty close, the final round will be tense .
