Moderator's Report

Summary:
A fine win for Yannick in a race typically dominated by slipstreaming. Bagrupp held on to claim second place with JonnyO grabbing third.

Server replay time: 0h07m55s

Lap 4 - Parabolica - Giovanni Centorame and Phil Thornton
Phil and Giovanni are side by side on the approach to Parabolica. Phil has the inside line and Giovanni holds the outside line. Neither driver can see the other so they need to hold their lines, unfortunately contact is made. Giovanni can continue but Phil is out of the race.

Phil maintained a tight line.

Giovanni tried to take the normal racing line but he wasn’t ahead and so he should have stayed on his own side of the track.

Season 40 – 1955 Grand Prix – Round 4 – Works - Monza

This race announcement is for the WORKS.

The fourth race in the 1955 Grand Prix series finds us at For the second race in the 1955 Grand Prix series we visit the “Cathedral of Speed” in Italy. The Autodromo Nazionale Monza is a race track located near the city of Monza, north of Milan. Built in the Royal Villa of Monza park in a woodland setting, the circuit has gone through numerous changes over the years.  Perhaps the most striking feature in the park is the steep banked (sopraelevata) curves on the now defunct 10Km variant, first used in 1955.  The original circuit (used between 1922 and 1933) also had an oval section but the banked curves were not as wide or as steep as the later 1955 variant.  The banked circuit was used on four occasions for Formula 1 races; in 1955, 1956, 1960 and finally in 1961 when it was decided that Formula 1 cars were just too fast to be safe on the oval track.   The banked oval section was last used in any capacity in 1969.  From 1962 onwards, the Formula 1 Grand Prix was held on the "road circuit" which by the early 1970s was also deemed to be too fast for Formula 1 cars.  Two chicanes were introduced for 1972 Italian Grand Prix, one at the Ascari curve and another on the approach to the Curva Grande.

For this race we will use the 1955 layout but without the steep banking.

So is monza67 just the original Pappy track with tarted up graphics, or is there an actual physical difference?
I've never used it before.

IIRC.
It is the same circuit as the original Pappy track, but some of the distances and bend radii have been "corrected" to make it more authentic, plus the graphics have been updated etc.
In practice I doubt whether anyone will notice the differences, but it does require a separate listing for lap records etc.

Monza67 is a completely new track by Ginetto, with more realistic bumps and bankings - it uses some graphic details of Monza10k (shadows of the trees on tarmac)

Especially the radii of Lesmos and Parabolica have to be looked at...

Thanks folks.

I shall keep pounding around it then.

Glad that they have shifted all the stray bodies out of the pit lane compared to the 10k version.

Any idea why the servers are not starting us in the pits?

I'll have a look into that Clive. It might be a legacy of one of our off-season races where we all had to start from the pits and did an out lap before a single qually lap. So all the pit stalls needed to be ahead of the start line.

If I get time I'll put the pit stalls back to standard.

Sebastian I'm so sorry you had to retire cause our contact at L2 Lesmo1. I hadn't any will to pass there, but I was caught out by your braking point. After your pass at Para L1 when I had to widen my line to let you by I was too confident about your speed at Lesmo.  Sad

Clive, you scared a lot Phil and me with your car floating in the middle of the track after Ascari, we had to do some rally to avoid you  Shocked  Grin

Pete too bad about your engine, who knows what had happened last lap. When you catched me I had hoped to gain something on the cars ahead playing with draft, but we were too back. Anyway great fun and safe drive.  Smiley

Grats Yannick.  great race.

i can't explaon myself. i did not attack the whole race, thinking of last time and beeing tired.
I just pushed to the limit on last laps parabolica if you two in front have trouble. but not that kind of trouble, i needed all the road when you...nearly spun.
Of course upside down Sad should have been me this time....
