Season 40 – 1955 Grand Prix – Round 5 – Works - Buenos Aires
This race announcement is for the WORKS.
The fifth race in the 1955 Grand Prix series finds us in Argentina. Built in 1952 on swampland just outside Buenos Aires, the circuit featured a white archway dedicated to the memory of Admiral William Brown. The track featured four different configurations for Grand Prix racing. From 1953 to 1960, the Argentine Grand Prix was held on the "No. 2" layout, clockwise for the all these years except 1954, when it was run counter clockwise.
The 1955 Argentine Grands Prix was one of the hottest races on record, at 40C (104F) with track temperatures reaching 51C (122F). Fangio, driving for Mercedes, was the only driver to complete the 96 laps (taking three hours) without handing his car over to another driver. One of his legs was badly burned by a chassis tube heated by the exhaust, an injury that forced a three-month recovery. Ferrari drivers Nino Farina and Maurice Trintignant finished both second and third in two three-way shared drives with José Froilán González and Umberto Maglioli respectively.

We are missing the first round results from the championship page.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I've had a look at the results on the database and I can't see anything wrong. I need to do some more investigating, we will correct the webpage as soon as I find out what has gone wrong.

my race was a complete disaster, i arrived late to the server because i was in zandvoort finishing a race on Planet GPL , and i did a qualy without pushing too hard. At the beginning of the race the pace was good and I could follow the leaders from a distance without pushing too much, but..... But the tiredness of doing two races in a row came to charge me, and I started a series of mistakes, almost all alone, but one of them was embarrassing in an attempt to come out strong in turn 1, I hit the back of Doni's Gordini, a complete embarrassment , worthy of failing a driver's license exam, I'm sorry Doni !!! then I waited for Doni to return to return and position , of course this didn't make up for his lost time, but it serves to show my deep shame and request for excuses . Congratulations to the podium and for Leo's great victory!

had to recover after an early spin, maybe could have challenged Fulvio more without it.
Another little mistake threw me back when attacking him, so enrique came near me in the finish

A circunstancial result for me as most people opted to save some tokens. When Jonny and Enrique joined the server with their challengers I put some effort in my qualifying but they were not in their best form this round. Tough luck guys After the first laps when everybody settled down I spent my race checking Clive's in what looked like an eventful round and Yannick maxed out the cost/benefit showing why he is in a league of his own. Reaching mid season, the championship is pretty alive for most of us

I hadn't touch the Gordini on this track in a while, but had a setup with which I tweaked a little. I thoight I'd go not much further than a low 1:43 but I am pleasantly surprised with what I could pull off in the qualifying and race.
My 1st gear was set for the slow corners which meant sacrificing the start but there was no other way around it. After I dropped a couple of places I went on the offense I managed to overtake quite a few of far superior cars over mine. I climbed up to second, but Leo was too far ahead and impossible to catch up to.
Grats Leo for the win and all who finished today. See you next race!

I usually go from my starting position to the back of the grid but I was surprised to hang on to P3 into the first bend. Yannick soon took the place on L2 in his Nitrous Powered Gordini. Very impressive pace from the little car. Yannick, we are not worthy I managed to creep up on Yannick and Clive as they battled for third. Clive made a mistake at the hairpin and I could steal 3rd place for a few laps before I made a hash of T1 and he could regain the place. The places switched again after an epic battle and some super-close racing. I then threw away a comfortable 3rd spot on the podium with just three laps to go. I was too busy looking at Prib and hit a curb going through the final S bend section. What a wally! This let Clive through and he could drive off to claim the bottom spot on the podium. Frustrating for me but I only have myself to blame. I was helped by the enormous grunt of the Mercedes today but it felt good to be running consistently well with the big-boys towards the front of the field. This MOD is really growing on me Thanks to all, especially Clive for the great driving lesson. Respect.

Grats to our podium men! Well done, chaps.
Started P10 and finished ditto. Didn't expect much more, frankly. I thought that I'd be picking up some places permanently right from the get-go when EvilClive and Fulvio collided off the grid but both recovered nicely especially Clive to take a tasty P5. Nicely done there, Clive. As is typical of my style, I take few risks and before long, found myself up to P7 when Jonny fell off the road. Better and better... I wasn't long, though, before JJ was hot on my tail and sadly, he tripped over my Gordini exiting the long sweeper which is T1. While I recovered from the outfield grass, Jonny kindly checked up and waited for me to re-pass for position. Thanks, amigo. Jonny did make a good pass shortly thereafter. Quite some distance behind Phil, my only hope was to up the pace marginally to see if I could close in. I was having some success in this til Phil threw it off the road in T1 to gift me the place. From then on, it was just hit my marks and click off the laps safely to the flag. Wait a tick... Not so fast...
With the lead serial much faster and the time lost with my off, I was mindful of being lapped. Phil was quite some distance behind in the last handful of laps and when he showed minus one lap instead of a time gap, I knew that the leader was a-comin'. Keen to finish on the lead lap...you never know if someone will shunt off to retirement or blow an engine in the last moments of any race..., I gassed it much harder in hope of avoiding being lapped. With a couple of laps to go, I could pick up a yellow car in my mirrors so knew that the game was on. On the last lap, I was getting blue flags as this car was very close indeed but I could also see that there was no car trailing this yellow speedster. If that had been the case, I would not have been quite so obstinate and yielded. As it was, I felt free to try and stay ahead without causing the leader...Leo, as it turned out...too much grief. Sorry about that, Leo. Hope I didn't cause you too much bother. I'm sure you'll understand. In the end, it didn't matter. Started that last tour in P10 and finished there.

No problem et all Doni. As you said, I had it under control, was already saving engine and fuel and by the rules, as you were not lapped yet, you didn't have to slow down to allow me to overtake you

I don't know who was at fault there, Clive and me went to the center of the track to pass the two Wanvall ahead that had a slower start, then we touched and Clive spun collecting Enrique that had the worst, sorry Enrique. Later when Clive catched me I didn' oppose resistence to apologize just in case , and followed him for a while. Later came Johnny and passed me easily while I had a nice gap on Bastian, but soon after I spun at the hairpin and had to defend the reduced gap till Bastian had an off in the final laps.
