Season 41 – 1966 F1 Series –  Spa Francorchamps

Penultimate race / event 7 for the 1966 series will take place at Spa. Please note is the Papyrus original track, not the version with the updated graphics. So much of this track is taken at full throttle there is precious little time to admire the scenery.

Due to the number of registrations. Reserve Drivers should not join the server until qualification is below 25 minutes. Full time drivers will be able to join the race before 5 past 9 and be guaranteed a grid spot. (I expect everybody who wants to race will be able to join.)

A driver must cross the start line in order to register the use of a chassis, participation in qualifying is not sufficient.

The tokens system will be used with drivers being awarded tokens for starting the season and for starting each race. Each car will cost a number of tokens per race. Pro standard drivers will receive 10 tokens at the start of the season & a further 10 tokens for each additional start. Amateur drivers will receive 20 tokens at the start of the season and a further 10 tokens for each additional start. Driver ranks can be found at the bottom of this e-mail.

Drivers are reminded that Lap 1 incidents carry an extra 1 place penalty.

Drivers must complete 50% race distance to score.

Unlimited number of Shift-Rs are allowed with no need to make Stop & Go.

Only reported incidents will be moderated.

Please, excepting emergencies, no chat until Session Completed in qualification. No chat in the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Please check Season 41 details regarding rules and the 1966 F1 Privateers Championship pages in particular

Is there a particular reason for not going with the new version of Spa?

No reason in particular - just something a bit different.

"Grande casino" here! As a reserve driver, I dutifully waited the 25 minutes as instructed, only to discover that I had not installed the track at all. So I did it and search for setups (they were not perfect working with my new equipment because they were more than 10 years old …) After that I was on track with 20 minutes to go …  Angry
It followed a very extraneous, unrealistic race.  Roll Eyes
Not even the track who looks so strange to me after such a long time (even Eau Rouge and Malmédy are great combinations) no because of the GPL damage mode! Normally my race should be finished (shift-R after more than 20 years of GPL racing is no option for me  Roll Eyes ) after the start crash, where five drivers and a lot of the spectators, when Bastian flew into them were killed – and then I also slam into a house behind Masta and survived – easy going, doesn’t matter – I turned my car around and went on without using shift-R !!!  Lap after lap I was able to remember the course again and despite the old set-up I still managed the second-fastest lap even I have a lot of crashes ... Roll Eyes THX to Evil, Christian, Andreas and Billy for having some fun.  thumbup1
Many THX to UK-GPL for organizing, wish you all happy holidays and a happy new year.

Good race for me, helped along by a 3 litre Repco engine. I qualified 8th but emerged from the Eau Rouge crash fest in 3rd place. With 13 laps to run did not expect to stay there. First Pete blew past. On lap 2 I made my one big mistake, clipping the grass on after the kink before Blanchimont. Unfortunately my triple spin took out Bastian. It took him a couple of laps to recover and pass me. Next was Andreas in the Cooper. A little more of a contest. Checking prib times I wondered if I might get 7th place but was hunted down by Bob with Evil in tow.
I did take more than a second off my 1966 PB for Spa, but there was a good measure of tow involved.

Enjoyed the outing at Spa last night. The original spa is still a great track. My version while looking inside the track folder shows its well modded, but even so makes me realise what a phenomenal job the team did with Spa 67.

Might copy the original vanilla one from the GPL CD just to transport me back by 20 years . Lol.

I had a lovely steady drive . Missed all the carnage at various places, never span. Never touched the grass. Ended on the same lap as everyone else and wasn't lapped. So all good from where I was. I really like the 66 cars.

Glad so many managed to finish.  We'll done pods. And thanks again Mods.

That was indeed a great Race in old spa.

Yes i killed several spectators when i was thrown in the air at the eau rouge start massacre.

Later great fights, Billy threw me back, but np.

Unfortunately i could not stand Doni's pressure in the last corner a little too fast with a half spin....Doni could not profit, but Pete did.
Podium thrown away.

Monster of GPL66Rank down to 2.08 for me

For this race,  I took the Eagle T1F Climax and won the sub 3 liters category  Grin

I lost several seconds when uli crashed at Masta and I had to reset.
Then I was focused to re-join Paul and was able to overtook him on lap 12.

I haven't posted recently on this board as the on-going angst of my recent house move continues.  That will doubtless be the case for the next couple of weeks but I did want to jump in to say how much I enjoyed yesterday's romp through the Belgian countryside.  Talk about drama!  A monster shunt in T1 of Lap01...most likely down to me for responsibility...and then a thrilling shot at a podium at La Source on the last lap.  Bas spun and I was already counting the P3 payout but a clip of his nose cone sent me to the infield and out of contention.  Merde!  NP, Bas.  As noted in post-race chat, poo happens.  Great dicing with you and Pete on the last lap.

Thanks for hosting!  Smiley

That was a lucky podium for me. Once at the start as I managed to miss the mess of Eau Rouge on Lap 1 and then at the end as Doni and Bastian span at the final bend. Thank you everyone for your help and generosity. Much appreciated.
