Season 41 - SCX67 Cup – Round 8 - Schottenring

For the last race of the S41 Sports Cars Cup we visit the Schottenring, a motorsport race track situated near Schotten in the Vogelsbergkreis of Hessen, between Fulda and Gießen.
After Nürburgring, Schleizer Dreieck, Solituderennen and AVUS, it was one of Germany's oldest race tracks, inaugurated on 22 July 1925.

Please check the Season 41 details regarding rules and the 1967 Sports Cars Championship pages in particular.
In order to add an element of realism, and to hopefully reduce the possibility of rear-end incidents, the brake light patch will be used  eek

I had the bumper sticker printed up and ready.  Gave the car a lively setup, and placed the responsibility squarely with the driver.

Two quick spins on lap one gave the tyres some heat, and provided a safety margin to the car ahead.  This later disappeared, and by the sixth lap, I was surrounded by two sinister dark Lola's.  From this, I discovered the 'Karussell' technique of cornering in the gutter, does not quite work as well when Schottenring-ing, as it does when Nurburgringen.  Took a reset, and cruised to the finish. Cheesy

Now, the rules say, I survived to claim a worthy finishing spot, but the scratches on my helmet, suggest the, "I Survived a Shot at the Schottenring, " bumper sticker, should remain shelved, and in need of another trip through this minefield!

Brilliant performances from both Greg and Axel!  Greg just out there being 20 seconds faster a lap than I in the same car!  Two minutes after the start and they were both out of sight!

I made a couple of gaffes...the second when trying to scan my pit board at the S/Fline; must change its location to avoid that in future...but survived.  Got some pressure from both Christian and Martin mid-race and was so tired that even if they made the slightest effort to challenge, I would have gladly given up the place.  Those long, long right-handers are just murder on a dodgy left shoulder.

The Sports Car series is done and Greg is our runaway champ.  Congratulations, GT!  Smiley

I'm sorry to have missed this one. I'm not feeling too great so needed an early night. Also, my GPL rig is in the attic and it's freezing up there at the minute.

Huge congratulations to Greg for the race victory and for taking the title so convincingly. Bravo!  Grin

Thanks to Cookie for organsing this series and for hosting. See you all soon.

Hi Pete.

Hope feel better soon mate.

I do sympathise with you regarding trying to race in a cold loft.
At present my Rig is out in the Garage. Was great earlier in the year. Certainly feels like mistake now. Hopefully will be back in the spare bedroom soon. That's the Rig, not me.

I tried to do a race and some practice the other night..  I even put on some thermal underwear and 2 pairs of socks.

I managed about 30 minutes and had to come back inside.

First time ever I was happy to have a DNF (Did Not Freeze !)

Congrats Axel and Doni! Congrats to Axel and Dave for P2 and P3 in the championship.

Thanks for the compliments gentlemen. I think Tristan and Yannick would have beat me if they tried. I might have gave them a good challenge if I practiced a little more. I didn't practice for this one since I didn't think Yannick would race. I was pleased with my qualifying lap and I think I might be able to do a 5:04 with the Lola.

Schottenring did it to me again. I can run a decent lap here sometimes but I can't seem to keep my car intact to run a good race or race lap. At one point, I forgot where to brake for the first turns so I hit the fences on both sides of the track, two laps in a row. The second accident damaged the car and it took me less than a half lap after that to destroy it completely. After the reset Axel had me in sight again, but I think he made a mistake soon after that so I was gone again.

The Lola felt unlike anything I've driven here before. It would turn in well initially but it often wanted to run wide after the apex. At times I was surprised how far past the apex I was still decelerating. It's a good car here but I think I could work on the setup and make it more enjoyable to drive. I copied one of my lastest setups, either Nurburgring or Assen. I was surprised I only needed one click on one wheel's camber. The only other thing I changed was a reduction in the roll bar rates.

Pete, I hope you're better soon. It looks like Pete and Paul need a suit and socks like an electric blanket. I thought I had it bad in a 18 C degree room. I only need 1 pair of socks and a sweater.

Thanks for the fun gentlemen. I appreciate it.
