Season 41 – 1966 F1 Series –  Goodwood

For the final race of Season 41we visit Goodwood, situated near Chichester in West Sussex,
on the estate of Goodwood House. The circuit is known for an accident that finished the career of Stirling Moss. In 1962, Stirling was competing in the International 100 race for Formula One cars when, towards the end of the race, he was attempting to pass Graham Hill’s BRM V8 on the outside of Fordwater bend when his car shot onto the grass and struck a low bank protecting spectators.

Goodwood was closed to competitive racing in 1966 but has been beautifully preserved and used for historic events including the annual "Goodwood Revival" Historic car meeting.

The is version of the track remodelled by Ginetto – Goodwood 65.

Due to the number of registrations. Reserve Drivers should not join the server until qualification is below 25 minutes. Full time drivers will be able to join the race before 5 past 9 and be guaranteed a grid spot. (I expect everybody who wants to race will be able to join.)

The tokens system will be used with drivers being awarded tokens for starting the season and for starting each race. Each car will cost a number of tokens per race. Pro standard drivers will receive 10 tokens at the start of the season & a further 10 tokens for each additional start. Amateur drivers will receive 20 tokens at the start of the season and a further 10 tokens for each additional start. Driver ranks can be found at the bottom of this e-mail.

Drivers are reminded that Lap 1 incidents carry an extra 1 place penalty.

Drivers must complete 50% race distance to score.

Unlimited number of Shift-Rs are allowed with no need to make Stop & Go.

Only reported incidents will be moderated.

Please, excepting emergencies, no chat until Session Completed in qualification. No chat in the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Please check Season 41 details regarding rules and the 1966 F1 Privateers Championship pages in particular

This is looking to be a great end to the season.

Tris already has the Championship trophy in his cabinet, there is a fight for 2nd between Tom and Yannick, with five drivers battling for P4. Should be fun.

Only 13 laps ?

Very short race !
For mod66, Tristan has the track best lap in 1min17sec662 (according to GPLrank)

In the registration thread it states 34 laps. I've corrected the post.

Yeah, 34 laps. Cut & paste error.
This is one of my favourite tracks. Unfortunately my PC is waiting repairs so I will have to sit out the final event. Have fun.

Having a great race with Doni, Pete, Andreas and Tom when the antibiotics I'm taking got the better of me and I had to park-up quick and rush to the loo  Roll Eyes. A fitting end to a great season. Have a Merry Christmas everyone, see you all for Season 42 in the New Year.

For better than 20 laps, I did my best to fend off all challengers and hold onto that final podium placing.  Leo and Axel were long gone but Andreas and Pete were giving me fits in their Coopers.  I didn't pin down my fuel requirement prior to the race so went a bit heavy to the line.  That didn't help my cause but the Red Ball Special does have a surplus of power to help mitigate that weight penalty.  Pete ultimately made a stab up the inside for Madgwick and clipped my RR tyre.  Off into the barrier but was able to continue without damage.  Andreas administered the coup de grâce a lap later at Fordwater so I called it a day.  Was certainly fun being the cork in the bottle for so many laps.

Have a great holiday season, chaps!  Smiley

Shame I missed the last two rounds at two tracks that I love. I would definitely be looking forward to another 1966 championship with this exact format, really enjoyed the races I had here in this c'ship, especially with the diversity in car's abilities that the 1966 rule change caused.  Smiley

It wasn't quite what I had in mind  oops, but somehow I had the feeling that your car wasn't quite straight after all. Too bad and sorry again.
Take care of yourself.

Hello, Andreas!  Smiley

I didn't mean to come across as disparaging in my race report comment above.  I was short on time and energy and typed up the first thing that came to mind.

When it comes to clean and enjoyable racing, there's nobody that I'd rather cross swords with, buddy.

Have a great holiday season and cya in 2023!  Smiley
