Moderator's Report

A good start to the season with NO reported incidents. The only comments have to be about the start. Fulvio has admitted responsibility for the crash at the start and we have put this behind us. As he said, "More patience needed at the start". A good reminder to us all. Races are LOST and not WON on the first lap. I put this incident down to start-of-term excitement. Please take care on Lap 1 of the next race as the track is very narrow and offers few passing places.

Season 42 -  1965  'Best of British'     Round 1 - Aintree

Welcome to the first race of the 1965 mod series. This year we run British cars (Lotus, Brabham, Cooper and BRM) on British tracks.  We are using a points system so please look at the rules and regulations carefully to plan your season.

More famous now for horse racing, the site is located in the outskirts of Liverpool in the north of England. It is where Stirling Moss, driving a Mercedes, won his first British Grand Prix in 1955.  After a race of 90 laps, Stirling finished in a time of 3h 7m 21.2s, just 0.2 seconds head of his illustrious Argentine teammate Juan Manuel Fangio. Mercedes dominated the race with a 1–2–3–4 finish with Karl Kling and Piero Taruffi driving the other two Mercedes cars. The first British driver / British car victory in a British Grand Prix was also at Aintree in 1957, when Stirling Moss and Tony Brooks shared a Vanwall.

No Ferrari or Honda

Did you vote in the poll? Do that and hopefully Phil will pick this up in time to add you.

Hi Paul. At least you got on. For some reason, and despite working just fine earlier, I could not join my own server with my GPL rig. So annoying. Timed out every time. Still, I'm being a spectator in Will's room and watching him race instead.

I'm also puzzled as to how a Honda got on the grid as the Honda and Ferrari were greyed out in Igor.

Anyway, back to the action on Wills screen. Go Team Tobo

Not selectable if user is making a new car choice in iGOR.
However, if the last car used was one of the deselected cars,   the car option will be pre-filled but greyed-out.  but still can be used.

Also, car choice not restricted if joining directly from GPL using the server IP address.

Unlucky with the local connection issue.

I've uploaded the results but I stupidly assigned S Zampedri to the wrong driver name in LM2. Can a 'Super-Moderator' please put correct? I put G Jonnsson by mistake in my haste to upload.

Unlucky Pete. I assume you were joining via the GPL Multiplayer Interface through local IP. Joining my server via iGOR doesn't work for me.

I managed to avoid a couple of Lap 1 crashes and in fact I picked up a few places. After that it was a bit of a lonely race because I didn't have the pace of the leaders. I managed to get past a much improved Will Bennett but I didn't pull much of a gap and I spent the rest of the race watching Pribluda as the gap back to Will and Bob fluctuated. Tris and Evil must have been involved in incidents earlier in the race (not sure if it was the same or separate) and they gradually caught and passed me. Bob eventually got past Will and he was on my gearbox as we took the chequered flag. One more lap and I'm sure he would have passed me.

I couldnt see the IP address of the server. I know its somewhere but in my panic couldnt find it.  Sad

I have a list of IPs in the Address book on GPL when joining via IP.. tried all of them with the correct password etc, all to no avail.

but 2 mins before the start time the server appearted in iGor and I got on. Only to find I had no setup. had joined as the wrong driver.  At this point I couldnt see much else going wrong,

but boy was I wrong there. got on the server again by the skin of my teeth. modified the setup as best as possible, fuel, steering ratio and clicked 1st gear down one and 6th gear up one... and went racing.  laugh

OK, not the best of starts, but they are easier from the back anyway. shame myself and others got caught in the start mess. No blame from me , As its a given for GPL if your at the rear at most starts like I am usually. If you dont run into a bad start its normal that one only has to wait until turn 1.. lol.  but after all the faffing about I had already had, I had to tell myself this wouldnt be much fun again.  Wink

so I chased along at the back as best as I could, had a little bit of racing, but generally boring until the excitement of a smoking engine, this being the most interesting thing to happen to me at Aintree so far.. tried to reset the car with my cleverly mapped " replace smokey engine button" oopppps.. no worky!  tried to reset correctly with a "Shift R"  again no worky !!!

so sorry if I got in the way of anyone. mainly Dave C I think. sorry mate.  Cry

I just hoped that as Im trying hard to actually do well this season I just had to carry on and get some points at least.  And as I stated as a young Man, "One has to first finish. to finish 1st"   although I think Churchill or someone said they said it first..  Shocked

So at least I added something realistic to GPL tonight. an injured straggler making its way home.. I actually took the checkered flag as I crept over the finish line. all in all still fun.

Thats GPL for ya !!

cheers for Hosting Pete. thanks for a good evening guys.

Cheers Pete. All was fine in the end.

I have since checked why I couldnt reset my Car.  maybe just my keyboard but a right hand shift button plus R doesnt work

Left side Shift button plus R does..  even after 23yrs or so of GPL one is still learning.   Reason my steering button for reset didnt work was I had moved my USB connections around
for wheel and pedals etc.. seemed to mix up the button mappings. All fine and dandy now though. onwards and upwards.
