Season 42 – F1 67 WORKS – Round 4 – ALBI

The fourth race in the 1967 Grand Prix series finds us in South West of France. Racing first started on the Circuit des Planques in 1933, the pits and startline being on a short straight before the road twisted down into St.Antoine. At St.Juery the cars had to contend with an extreme hairpin bend, followed by a railway level crossing. The 5.531 mile circuit was shortened in 1951 to 1.859 miles, before being closed in 1955 following the Le Mans disaster. Racing resumed at the nearby Aerodrome in 1959 which is the circuit we now know as Albi. The Chicane du Sequestre was introduced in 1988. Albi has never hosted a championship F1 race, but it held a Formula Two race in 1967 and we will be using the layout used then. Jackie Stewart won that race in his Matra. He was followed home by Jochen Rindt in a Brabham and Jim Clark, who had spun his Lotus near the Dunlop bridge.

I've managed a few practice laps in the BRM this evening. I won't be the quickest, but it's a fantastic track and I promise to keep out of the way whilst being lapped.  Tongue

Just in case anyone is unsure how many tokens they have, hover your mouse over your points total in the championship table. The number of tokens you have (before the 10 you get for starting the next race) is displayed in a pop-up. So if 5 tokens appears in the pop-up, you will have 5 + 10 = 15 tokens available for the next race.

Unfortunately the pop-up only works once you have scored points. Until then (hopefully for most people only 1 or 2 races) drivers will need to calculate the tokens for themselves.

Please note: the "hover" mechanism doesn't work on a mobile phone.

Having a great race with Philippe until I locked up at Double Droite, ran wide and dropped back about 500 metres. I tried hard but I couldn't close the gap. As the laps ticked down I realised I hadn't put enough fuel in so I had to do a pit stop to refuel. That dropped me behind Bob and JonnyO but I managed to stay on the lead lap to the finish.

Well done Philippe, a well deserved 5th place. You are an established Works driver now  thumbup1

it's strange, it works well, EXCEPT for me. On my name it says "TOKENS". I see the tokens for all the other drivers!

thank you phil. Too bad for the full, otherwise, we would have had a good fight. I think you were faster, very difficult to pass on this track

When I try on your name it says "Tokens: 10". I can see everyone else's tokens too, including mine. Very odd Huh

Unexpected weekend  result considering the competition and car allocations   Grin

First in qualifying, when I set a PB and could improve it a bit more after Jungle jumped in front temporarily. Then at the race and I knew it wold be hard to keep in front of an alien and a Ferrari.

With the green flag I had a fine jump out of the line, but would never challenge that first tight corner with you know who. Jungle didn't lose time in the speedy Ferrari pulling alongside in the back straight and out braking me in the outside at Droite de l'Aerodrome, great move. The front runners started the race with blistering pace and I had to pull some defensive lines to keep in front of Greg T., but after some three laps with tires up to temperature things got more settled and soon I was closing back in the 2nd place, that suddenly turned into a race for 1st. Jungle was making small mistakes while I was getting closer, as was the former lider, faster.

Then Jungle spun at Virage du Parc and I was 1st, seems he had some FPS problems, tough luck mate. Considering who was behind closing fast I thoght I wold just stick to my pace, nevermind the end result, but looks like the guy cooked his engine trying to get to the front. With little over half race distance I had bilt a confortble margin to Greg in 2nd and could manage it to the chequered flag. That was a great race. See you next round.

Nice job for the win, Leo!  Good recovery for P2, Greg!  Fulvio!  I threw everything I had at you but it wasn't enough.  I was really getting very tired sucking on the exhaust of your Ferrari for near-on 40 laps.  Smiley  Well done for a solid drive to P3, mate.

A little disappointed with my qualifying run.  It was ¼ second off my pre-race trials effort but even if I laid it down again, wouldn't have started any further up the grid.  Got away from the grid well but was mindful in the early laps of Baab & Jonny hounding me in their Coopers.  Both going well there.

Only two dramas for me in the race.  Went fractionally too deep into the hairpin on Lap24 and skated off the road briefly.  Cost me about one second in my pursuit of Fulvio.  The other noteworthy incident was Lap33 when coming up to lap Clay's Honda.  I caught him on the run into T1 and his image started to do the hokey pokey.  Hmmm...  The Honda pulled away down the straight but I caught Clay again at the hairpin where he kindly let me through.  Again, though, as I closed on braking, his image was definitely warping a bit.  I suppose that coordinating signals in the UK with those coming from Argentina and Canada is somewhat of a big ask.

Congrats Leo and Fulvio! Nice job gentlemen.

That was a good race. I didn´t fall too far behind the leaders and Fulvio and Doni didn´t leave me much room for mistakes. I was so engrossed with the action that I thought I was chasing Tristan for at least a few laps when it actually was Leo that I was trailing.

That was pleasing. I got new fast laps both in qualifying and the race. I hoped for no more than matching old best lap. I also didn´t expect to make the podium. I thought I had a good chance at P4 while knowing I could easily fall to P6.

I struggle a lot in qualifying with over heating my rear tires. By the end of qualifying I chose a good rear tire pressure. I only over heated the rear tires once in the race. I was a little disappointed Fulvio got in front of me in qualifying. I thought I would be faster the first few laps of the race.

I drove faster than I thought I would. Subtract the mistake I made and I never would have been far behind the leaders. It took me a while to get away from Fulvio and Doni, but my pace was very good the last 1/3 of the race.

That was tough for Tristan and Renato. It was very likely they would be on the podium if they finished.

Leo is doing a good job trying to win this championship. I´d bet on him. Very few of us have a chance to beat him now.

Thanks for the fun guys. I appreciate it.
