Season 42 - 1955GP – Round 5 – TripoliThe fifth race in the 1955 Grand Prix series we are going to Libya. We visit the very fast circuit at Mellaha Lake, Tripoli. The track was a 13.140 kilometre (8.165 mi) long affair situated in a salt basin between Tripoli, Suq al Jum'ah and Tajura and around the Mellaha Air Base. The track's most distinctive landmark was a brilliant white concrete tower situated across from a large front stretch grandstand that could hold up to ten thousand people. Mellaha Lake was equipped with starting lights, an innovation, and the additional amenities rivalled the best that continental European circuits had to offer. Disaster!
I had geared the car for the long straights and relying on a tow. This meant my start was terrible and, as expected I was at the back by T1. Still, the gears were perfect for a tow down the back straight. I saw mayhem ahead at the next tight right-hander so slowed in order to pick my route through the twisted metal ahead. Damn - I got rear ended and game over. I hope you all had fun in the desert. Hopefully more luck for me next time.

Managed to avoid all the mayhem, and finally settled in behind Leo and in front of Dave. Unfortunately my engine did not like being used for braking and decided not to go the distance.

Sorry I spoiled your race to Pete . No excuses except I lost the engine and things turned red trying to slow with no help from engine braking . Apart from that I got caught out by the speed of the Vanwall with the tow , guess I should have thrown the anchors out sooner . Mea Culpa  |

thank you for the accident molteni, see you next time! Sorry Philippe but your breaking was too hard for me and i was not able to avoid a contac.I understand your disappointement.In many curve have risked to go in your rear,the last was fatal. I suffered the same ,with Evil,at lap 5 but fortunately i was able to continue. |

Had a great race with Cookie, swapped places lots of times in a cat and mouse game. It looked like the person leading out of the last proper corner was going to lose the drag race to the line. Cookie managed to fool me into taking the lead on the penultimate lap and when I realised he wasn't going to take the lead back I tried to make a break for it but to no avail. As we exited the final corner I could see him gaining but as he pulled alongside to overtake his Lancia started spluttering because he was low on fuel. That was just enough to slow him sufficiently for me to hang on to the lead and take the win. A very close finish, great racing Cookie. Pity you lost the tow Bastian, it would have been an epic three way battle. You got the fastest lap so you definitely would have been up there  |

Grats to Phil and the pods. It's an achievement just to finish at this track. I may not have scored any points today, but I'm still leading the VANWALL challenge.  |

Yes Phil a great battle, and a well earned victory  I saw it before last lap that the fuel will be low, so I had to save fuel and hoped it will last a little longer for the final |

Congratulations Phil for the win. I had to race in Direct 3D because of the GPU driver and it was impossible to race. I let everyone go and then was just picking places from others misfortunes. A couple more careful overtakes and not bad after all. Managed to revert back to a GPU drivers from last may and now everything is back to normal  |
