Moderator's Report

Server replay time: 0h22m15s

On lap 15 at the entry of Curva Grande, Alain Maurice rearended Syd Drake.

Syd may have been on a defensive line and consequently had to slow more than normal to make the corner, but he was well ahead (over a car's length in front) and so he had won the corner. Alain should have slowed down and conceded the corner but he carried on at his normal pace and hence contact was made.

Obviously Alain didn't intend to wreck Syd's race and we all know his sportmanship.

According to UKGPL rules, this is a blatant rear end shunt

  • Alain Mauricepenalty — Blatant rear end shunt — 2 places lost

Season 43 – 1967 F1 – Round 1 – Works  - Monza1967
The first round of the Season 43 takes us to Monza in Italy. The Autodromo Nazionale Monza is a race track located near the city of Monza, north of Milan.  Built in the Royal Villa of Monza park in a woodland setting, the circuit has gone through numerous changes over the years.  Perhaps the most striking feature in the park is the steep banked (sopraelevata) curves on the now defunct 10Km variant, first used in 1955.  The original circuit (used between 1922 and 1933) also had an oval section but the banked curves were not as wide or as steep as the later 1955 variant.  The banked circuit was used on four occasions for Formula 1 races; in 1955, 1956, 1960 and finally in 1961 when it was decided that Formula 1 cars were just too fast to be safe on the oval track.   The banked oval section was last used in any capacity in 1969.  From 1962 onwards, the Formula 1 Grand Prix was held on the "road circuit" which by the early 1970s was also deemed to be too fast for Formula 1 cars.  Two chicanes were introduced for 1972 Italian Grand Prix, one at the Ascari curve and another on the approach to the Curva Grande..

I'll probably have to miss this one. Will and I are cycling 100 miles  Shocked for charity on Sunday so I'll most likely be asleep by the time qualifying starts. Have a great start to the season.

I made it after all - legs a bit stiff but OK for GPL Smiley

Happy to finish P9 in the Honda but benefited from the demise of quicker drivers early on. I had to drive hard to keep Phil behind me in his BRM and I thought I'd sneaked into 8th with Alain spinning off but he got me at the Parabolica on the final lap. Bravo! Great move.

Great season-opener for me.

Frustrating... engine let go with 6/7 laps to go...

At the start RBald(?) didn't get going. I got eh warning from the guy in front of me and  I steered around him but RBald turned in to me (acceleration wiggle?) as I passed and caused chaos for some, esp. Baab. Soon after there was a pile up at Lesmo 1 where there was some very polite waiting and I got 3/4 laps clos-ish racing before I found myself with a gap to Fulvio that he couldn't pull in and me watching Doni disappear away from me. I settled down to just being consistent, which I largely was, just one wee wobble. Tyres and engine temp were well within norms, so disappointed the engine broke when I had a safe 6th..hey ho.

Not sure I 'll be here for the next one, but I may have some paperwork to file if anyone complains about the S/F pile up...

Same here a lap later, I couldn't end the lap so you stayed ahead, nice drive anyway till there Arf.
I apologize for Lesmo 1 caos. At braking for Lesmo I found the cars ahead more slower than I had thought, so I went for inside trying to avoid Doni's car and got the grass. By then I was a passenger trying to keep the car straight without chance to slow down enough, so I fall again on tarmac sliding a lot ahead of poor Doni that couldn't avoid me and so the cars following, sorry all.  Embarrassed

I didn't think I'd be competitive here so I decided to save some tokens and take the BRM. I was right, I wasn't competitive but I managed to drive within myself and didn't make any big mistakes so I grabbed some decent points. I tried to hang onto Pete but he was too quick (glad to see you made the race and your legs were not too stiff after your long cycle ride mate, well done for your charity) but I was close enough so that he couldn't afford to make any mistakes.

Grats to Tris but I was pleased to see my team mate Cookie bag second place and some good points for Antipasti. But I think we'll struggle to beat the "French Works" team (Equipe BGB) they have a formidable line-up  eek

Please exclude Monza from the calendar, careful riders simply always get eliminated on lap 1....

or maybe increase the distance at the start to 30 meters, I watched 3 accidents in lap 1. until I was hit from behind.

After all, should we be careful on lap 1 or not Huh this needs to be made clear!

Congratulations to the podium, and congratulations to winner Tristan! thumbup1
Yes, racing is dangerous and it wouldn't be any different in a simulator, although you'll never break a bone.
But we have to take into account that the GPL has a contact bug, it does not accept hitting wheels or a small touch of crystal glass . In Clandestines Trophy I used 20m grid as standard for many years and the results were very favourable.

A fairly handy result considering.  No dramas whatsoever save for the first lap getting off the grid and down in Lesmo1.  Bobbie_B started directly ahead of me in his BRM having put down a fine effort in qualifying but somehow, he missed the drop of the green.  I pulled right and surged by without issues and ran gingerly down to the Curva Grande.  There, I expected trouble but thankfully, everyone got through OK despite some pushing and shoving.  I arrived at Lesmo1 with a Ferrari...Fulvio's...close behind and when it jigged to the right on approach and out of my mirror FOV, I thought, 'Oh, please, no.  This never works.'  I took a quick peek with my 'Look Right' button and saw that Fulvio was off in the grass and in some difficulty.  I could see that as the road started to curve to the right that Fulvio was going to shoot straight over the curb and directly into my flank.  I made sure to slow considerably and keep far left in hopes of avoiding a collision.  Somewhat surprisingly, this worked out as Fulvio did, indeed, appear and shot straight over to the far side of the roadway.  I saw a gap open up behind him and made for it only to see his Ferrari start to loop to the right directly in front of me.  I slowed again in hopes of missing the red car but only just clipped its tail.  Luckily, my Brabham remained straight and true to the roadway and I was able to pull away.  Sadly, many trailing me had grief including Jonny O'.  This incident left me some seconds down on the group ahead and I had no chance to catch the slipstream.  I did, at least, have a decent cushion to my pursuers and gradually edged away settling into p07.  Lap15 and developments as Maurice & Syd collide at the Curva Grande with Syd a DNF and Maurice seriously delayed.  Up to p05 now and that's how the race fleshed out.

We had three Lotus 49's and four Eagle T1G's take the green here.  Come Casablanca, I think we can expect to see a lot of BRM's and Hondas in the pack.  Smiley

TY for hosting.  Good to be back for S43.

We are back at Monza for the last round of the 1955 championship. I'll set the grid for a 20m stagger and see how we get on. The tow in the 55s is quite strong so the extra distance shouldn't stop drivers from getting a tow and stretching the pack out too much.

As Cookie has intimated this shouldn't be necessary but GPL is a bit unforgiving when drivers bang wheels. The Hamilton/Piastri incident would have been catastrophic in GPL.

Drivers at the back should get much higher speed by the time they get to T1  Smiley
