Moderator's Report

Paul has a good run down into the first corner but Phil is quickly approaching on the inside. Paul drifts a little wide and Phil is moving up the inside but Paul then come back across and the two cars collide. At the next corner, Andreas moves up the inside and Paul is knocked off again as he tries to return to the inside line at the corner.

In both incidents, Paul has very little sight of Phil and Andreas. He should have kept to the wider line until he was positive that the inside line was clear. The driver on the outside is more at risk from GPL's crash-box and this may have come into play.

RACING INCIDENT

Advice: Please consider using Olaf's Blind-Spot version of Pribluda for online racing. It can let you know that cars are very close and in your blind-spot. It's also reassuring as you can be confident that your blind-spot is empty before turning in.

Shame Billy.

sorry to hear your internet playing up again Pete.

Cheers for taking the reins and running a server Dave.

I did actually get a bit of practice in for this one.  had a reasonable enough time for me too. but unfortunately improving your abilities and track times have no effect on other peoples driving habits.

still plowing up the inside even when you are in front of them and turning in quite correctly at the right time and place and as deemed by the UKGPL rules to be legal..... you still get pushed off or punted.  at both the first and the second corners i was hit.

If I did something wrong then please tell me.. ive been wrong before...LOL

whats the point of rejoining at the back. only way i can get any points is to qualify at the rear of the grid in a slow car so as to at least not waste points and then to have a boring race at the back.. that or get smashed out of the way.

I absolutley adore GPL its been a passion of mine since 1999.. a long time.   perhaps its been too long.  especially for online racing.

Im just going to  have to put it down to GPL and its collision Box excuse.

was hoping here that the first lap would allow everyone to warm up their tyres and the racing to start fully from the end of the last corner into the very nice long and wide start?finish straight.

but not to be. over in 2 corners.  also unlimited resets.... doesnt work in my opinion as then accidents dont really impact on anyone too much.

but ive typed enough . im off for a cuppa and an early bath. cos im pissed right off !!

Sorry about the contact Paul. I've submitted an incident report. You put in a great qually time which put you right in the middle of the pack which is always the most precarious place. I hope your enthusiasm is rekindled once you've had time to get over the disappointment of a ruined race.

Grats to Uli, Greg and WILL!! I am not surprised that Will's name has appeared on the podium as he has improved immeasurably, in pace and racecraft, since his much criticised debut ( but we won't talk about that  Wink ).

For me it was a race of 3 parts. At the start I was almost able to live with Uli's pace in that overpowered Honda and we pilled away from the chasing pack, although they were never too far away. Then sometime around the middle of the race I simply forgot how to drive the car  Huh Mistake after mistake, missing braking points, getting on the gas too soon and too hard. All of which overheated the rear tyres and caused more problems. Somehow I kept Uli just visible in the distance and instead of using my head and settling for a solid 2nd place I had to push 10/10 to try and catch him.....................and blew the engine!!! What a muppet??
That allowed Greg and Will to take their battle past me and I was relegated to 4th. In the last 3rd of the race I was trying to get back to the Greg/Will battle and managed to overcook things and spin........Tom was smiling as he stole 4th place.

Yet another overheated tyre and another spin almost allowed Ricky to pass and we had several close laps until he got caught up with backmarkers, so I ( finally) eased off and accepted 5th place.
A lot of my problems probably came from my own stupidity. I altered the setup between Quali and Race, which is a total NO-NO and I suspect that is why my rear tyres were hot. With old age comes wisdom and stupidity in equal measures  Roll Eyes

At least I did not hit anyone  Grin

This was a great track for a former go-kart driver and one of these days when everything is running perfect and smoothly.
After the DISCO shock in the first practice - not good for an old men heart - I recovered quickly and was able to drive pole again in the second practice. The start duel also went surprisingly clearly in my favour. Clive was able to follow me very well in the first laps but by the middle of the race I had managed to gain +10s. I didn't make any serious mistakes yesterday and as we all know, that's the most important thing, I had a fantastic set-up, found my flow and was able to keep my concentration well. Again all backmakers did an excellent job yesterday, which was not easy here on such a tight, twisty track - congratulations to you and of course congratulations to my brand mate Greg and to Will on his first podium and especially to Phil for the spare server. In this context also a thank you to Enrique, who was immediately helpful in the chat and wanted to make his server available to save the race.  Cool

Congrats Uli and Will!

I thought I would miss this race. Since I was at the computer I thought I might as well give it a try. I have few Honda setups so I loaded my Monza67 setup. When I saw how little wing angle it had I knew there was no way I could use it here. Luckily, my Balcarce setup was a decent place to start.

With no practice, I had little hope of doing well. I had just enough time to learn how to stay on the track. I had no delusions I could keep up with Uli or Clive. From early in the race I hoped to hold P3, but I could see that any real mistake could easily drop me 4 or 5 positions. Pete kept the pressure on me for a long time, oops, I mean Will. It took me a long time to realize it wasn't Pete behind me. I maintained a small gap on Will for a while but he eventually closed it. I knew he was faster but I thought I might keep P3 if I didn't make any mistakes. I tried to be consistent so Will would see where I was slow. My saving grace appeared to be the last turn. I was often getting through it a little better than Will. I got lucky Will made some mistake late in the race. I have doubts I could have taken much more heat.

I haven't noticed Will before. It's good to see another driver in UKGPL. It looks like he's going to be tough on a lot of us.

Thanks for the fun gentlemen. I appreciate it.

Thank you Phil for providing the server at the 11th hour. I've sorted my internet issues now so all is good for the next round. Today (Thu 26th Oct) I've left UKGPL07 running for testing. Please let me know how you get on.

Jarama was not a popular choice when the season was announced but I think that it proved to a lot of fun for racing. Well done to the pods, especially Greg for tolerating the pressure which Will was putting on him. Yes, Will has got so much better, way better than me these days (he likes to remind me OFTEN). It won't be long before he gets his first victory and then I'll never hear the last of it.

Andreas, Daver R and Fulvio were great company at the back of the grid with some very close racing lap after lap. I was hoping to battle with Phil but early on he span whilst I was in hot pursuit and I promptly followed him into the same spin. Hey ho.

See you all next time. I'm off to practice so that I can beat that pesky teenager. If only I could use that mighty Honda of Uli's...

I'm sure that Will has expressed his gratitude to you on multiple occasions for all of the coaching and instruction that you dispensed, on how to be so fast. It is clear that you, Pete, are far too modest to claim that he is a result of all your hard work and take the plaudits that you deserve.  Roll Eyes

I look forward to seeing a reference and thanks to Dad in all of his future podiums . whistling whistling

Hi Phil,  Absolutely No problems.. certainly nothing personal mate.

As you say mid pack is a precarios place.  Im glad to know that you and Angex did at least get to finish.  I wasnt happy with myself either at the time because I had turned in and perhaps would have been better to stay wide, but i didnt want to just give up my place and I could not see anyone or anything that was in my mirrors or behind me.

and i would never knowingly take anyone out. But then none of us would .

so probably a mistake on my part. and could so easily have ruined other peoples races. so my apologies, as I have said if I was wrong.

nothing much can spoil my Enthusiasm for GPL, except perhaps myself for spitting out my dummy.. but im over that now. LOL..  its the Best Racing sim on the planet and it just gets better. the new trackpack is awesome.

So i have replied to the race report and have said i dont want anything done . A race incident, if thats OK.

Except if anyone thinks different and I transgressed the gentlemans driving code. if so im ready to take the flak and the punishment.
