Just for the non-Europeans,  be aware that the UK (& Europe) clocks change overnight tonight / before the race.
UK clocks go back 1 hour,  returning to GMT/UTC.

Well, this just isn't my season. After great qualifying, my engine blew up on the start. Didn't even move. Does this even count as taking the Lotus for a race?

We'll have to wait until the results are uploaded (because the importer works all this out) but I'm pretty sure you didn't cross the start line so you will be counted as a non-starter. That should mean you have exactly the same number of tokens you had before the race. You won't get your 10 tokens start money but you won't have spent anything on the Lotus either.

Unlucky race for me. Out at turn 1.

I picked up a few places at the start thanks to the confusion caused when Syd's engine popped on the grid. Going into turn 1 the usual concertina effect started. Everyone had to slow down for the cars ahead which bunched up everyone behind. I was unlucky to be the one who got rear ended. A gentle tap turned into an explosion thanks to the over zealous GPL crash boxes and I was catapulted upside down and out of the race.

The graphics updates are great but no consolation after a disappointing night. I'll have to listen to the rest of the Mexican GP on BBC radio 5 live Sad

Wow! How close at the end. Thanks RS Smiley That was a LOT of fun. If you hadn't clipped the barrier on the run to the finish line, the extra couple of points would have been yours.

Pete, it was a lot of fun and tense, because your lotus was very fast, our dispute was very clean, congratulations.

Somewhat disappointed to only score a P6 here at Mexico.  To be sure, there was a lot of talent on the grid in very fast cars...Lotus, Eagle and Ferrari...but by mid-race, I was already static in P6 and looked to see my pit board flashing me P5, P4, P3 and so on as the laps reeled off but you guys are just too good!  No race-ending shunts or engine blow ups.  A testament to the quality of the field.

Starting P8, I saw Syd blow his Lotus to bits on the grid.  Goodness me!  I didn't get the best launch and maybe that was all for the best as down in T1, there was grief with Alain off the road and the field bunched up to Phil's immediate DNF from a butt-ram.  Two Lotus runners out and not a mile in the books.  Sad

The opening lap dramas weren't over as Bob spun his Brabham directly in front of me just downstream of the hairpin and I had to take evasive action to the left.  Bob executed a neat 360° spin to carry on ahead and my loss of pace let Alain through for the place.  I had Colin hot on my tail for the balance of this opening lap.

Soon, I was able pull away somewhat from Colin and mark time on Bob.  Lap10 was Bob's undoing as he spun in T1 and pruned off a wheel.  Up to P6 now with Jonny not all that far ahead in his Ferrari.  Didn't figure on much chance of challenging JJ so just looked to put down consistent laps and wait for developments.  They never came so P6 it was.

Ripper of a finish between Pete & Ricardo!  That will make the season-end highlight reel for sure.

Fine job by Greg for the victory!  Great recovery by Alain to claim P2.  Eddie making it a Lotus sweep of the podium in P3.  Well done, chaps!

Now sitting a heady P2 in the standings.  My poor old heart can barely stand it!  Smiley

Mexico is one of the best tracks on the original tracks, and luckily this race on Sunday was fun. At the beginning I had the pace to keep up with DuLima and Farina, I would be at a safe distance if something happened, because I didn't have the speed to challenge on the big straight. Halfway through the race Alain Maurice recovered impressively, and it would have been stupid to try to hold him back, I opened the way. After that I lost a few more meters to my partners and fell behind, and Doni was also at a safe distance and in the last third he became more relaxed and almost ended up losing the race due to an oversight. Luckily nothing happened and I finished in an average 5th.

Congratulations on the podium and see you next time!!!

Congratulations Alain and Eduardo! It looks like pole position determined the winner. It also looks like Eduardo is getting faster.

It had been a while since I drove at Mexico City. The 30 minutes of practice prior to qualifying helped a lot. At first I could not keep the car on the track. I was a bit worried I might wreck or destroy my engine during the race. Luckily, I was able to open an early gap that allowed me to take it easy on the DFV.

I improved my fastest lap in qualifying by about 0.15 seconds. I liked that. Physically, I don't think I can drive any better than I could several years ago but more experience and improved setups are still allowing me to get faster in some instances. By the time qualifying ended, I thought I might be able to break into the 1:45s some day. If I increase the rpms in 1st and 5th gear, I'm sure the car would set better times, but I would be shocked if the engine could finish a race with that gearset.

Without a poor opening lap, Alain would have had a good chance to beat me. I don't think I could have withstood much pressure Sunday. Alain's pace was good in the second half of the race. I didn't dare try to run a 1:46.5 like he did. I was so concerned about wrecking or destroying the DFV that my tires ran very cool most of the race. It was only the last 2-3 laps that I got them to a good temperature.

The only thing I did well in the race was keeping myself from making any stupid mistakes. The Lotus did most of the work. Smiley

Thanks for the fun guys. I appreciate it.
