Season 43 - 1955GP - Round 7 – Parco del Valentino

The seventh race in the 1955 Grand Prix series finds us at Turin in Italy. Parco del Valentino (also known as Valentino Park) is a popular public park in Turin. It is located along the west bank of the Po river.  Several races were held here between 1935 and 1955, it is the 1955 layout that we will be using for this race.  This is a very challenging circuit with virtually no run-off areas, plenty of undulations and blind corners.  Discretion is the better part of valour for this track. The 1955 race held at this circuit was a non-championship formula 1 race called the VII Gran Premio del Valentino. The race was won by Alberto Ascari in a Lancia D50. This was Lancia’s first ever victory in a Formula 1 race.

Please note: We are using the v3 version of this track. It is the final and best version with a new layout, new objects and new textures. Ginetto also moved the Start/Finish line to the correct place according to pictures from the real race in 1955. We are NOT using the older version which has a track directory called turin55.

Driver lists and division specific rules can be found on the championship standings page.

Please note: A total of 19 drivers registered for the Works and Privateers so there is no need to run two servers. Consequently one server will be used but the Privateers will have their own championship.

Thanks Phil.

A server to help people check their connections would be very useful if it can be conjured up.

Not able to make this one I'm afraid. Will and I are both busy with brass band concerts at this time of year. I hope to see you at Monza on the 17th.

We have a three way, no holds barred, fight for the championship and a wide spread of lap times in race mode.

It is possible that some people at the rear of the field could be lapped twice in 26 laps so to avoid the incidents that we had at Monsanto, it would be good if everyone had a good look in their mirrors and made good use of Prib to see if they have the leaders closing on them.

As I have said in a previous post, it is better for both parties if you can give the lapping car an easy pass on the straight, rather than becoming an obstruction in the next corner.  This is particularly true in this mod, where the faster car's brakes may be in a worse condition than those of the car being lapped!  There's often no option but a collision when things go that far.

The leaders should not be left to guess which way that a lapped car is going to jump and please wait until the faster car is not directly behind you before you lift.

There are no specific rules that cover lapping in the 55s, the advice for lapping are the same for all mods.

However, Clive is absolutely right to point out that lapping is more difficult in the 55s. So please be careful when lapping and try to let leaders past on the straights.

We might have a full grid tonight so please can the reserve drivers wait until 21:00 UK time (i.e. 15 mins into qually) before joining the server. This should allow the full-time drivers (who might be fighting for the championship) to join first.

I appreciate someone may miss out tonight. I'm sorry about that. If we run the 55s again next season, I'll definitely go with 2 servers. It will reduce the risk of problems lapping and will ensure everyone gets a drive. We have had a few new drivers joining part way through the season which is very welcome, but it means there may be more than 19 drivers hoping to race.

I'm deeply sorry Donni, it was totally my fault, I missed the braking point by looking at the mirrors.

There must have been at least 300 Gordinis in that race!

A good race for me for a change. I've had a bit of bad luck this season, particularly Brands and Tripoli. But no worries in this race Grin. I was pleased with P3 on the grid with a gaggle of slow starting Gordinis behind me. It is hard to pass here so I just tried to stay with Clive and wait for an opportunity. One came after about 6 laps when Clive went wide at the last corner and gave me a chance to pass which I took. There was no chance of catching Evil on pure pace so I focussed on being consistent and not presenting Clive with a chance to get back at me. Everything was going to plan and my life was made a lot easier when Clive made a mistake somewhere and dropped back. From then on it was a matter of not tripping up over back markers and managing the gap back to Clive. Mission accomplished, P2 in the bag

Thanks to the backmarkers when lapping, I had no problems at all. Great driving gents!

To avoid some Gordinis I fired up your car sitting on the curb and got stuck on the haybales, luckily I managed to free me from the Hay, but restarted dead last. I had some fun backing up some french machinery till I catched David that game me some battle till he had a momentum at  the chicane before the back straight and he let me by.
I have to apologize for scaring the cars behind me at T1 L1 cause I got bad fps and lost control touching the outside haybales. Luckily noone was involved, but I lost two spot.
Enrique, at Q when I started from pit I had to pass a car stopped ahead and I was coasting right when I saw you coming fast. Misunderstanding I think, cause you went for the right instead of left that was the good side to brake for T1, sorry. Unlucky race for you I see  Sad

Well done to Fran for a great drive and for slotting in between me and Jonny. That could be very useful in two weeks time.

Congratulations to Evil and Phil on their win and second spot also.

Only one lapped car tried to kill me and I guess Bernie hadn't seen me chasing Phil.
