Moderator's Report

A good race at this fantastic track. Bad luck to Will who was well on his way to his maiden victory. GPL can be cruel.

Season 43 - Mixed Open Wheel    Round 7:   1968 EARLY  -  Montjuich v2

This track was a street circuit on Montjuic mountain above Barcelona. A twisty tricky circuit, it was the site of the tragic 1975 Spanish Grand Prix. Many drivers felt that the circuit was unsafe, and two time world champion Emerson Fittipaldi withdrew in protest before the start of the race. On lap 26 the Embassy Hill-Lola car of Rolf Stommelen left the track, killing five people. The race was subsequently stopped at half distance and half points awarded, with Jochen Mass being recorded as the winner. Lella Lombardi became the first female driver to score world championship points, taking 0.5 points for 6th place. Formula One never returned to the circuit after the accident.

Was able to make some tests. 32.7 I believe was my best with race fuel with the BRM. Hope will be good for top 10. The car is pretty fun to drive, however, I have some more ideas about the setup and I hope the lap times will decrease.

That sounds respectable to me. My best so far is a 1:33.77 in the Ferrari with low fuel, but I am very inconsistent. My strategy is to do enough laps to help me learn my limits. I am usually a little off pace though.

I recommend that everyone go single file from El Angulo (t1) to Rosaleda (t2), but if not, the shift - R is available.

The join button on iGOR is not visible to me. I think that the qualifying session has ten minutes left. Any idea what caused my problem?

I also see that server is not pingable, and the letters N/A appear instead of a green light.

First column ?? means mod not installed
second no green button means track not installed

look in options if the right install is selected in igor.ini

Thanks for the quick reply. I should have tested it out earlier.

Mystery solved. I have not installed the montjuic69.

A great race for me, I had a titanic battle with Pete. I got into the lead once when Pete went wide but I threw it away with a half spin at the hairpin. Pete drove really well and didn't make any mistakes in the last 4 laps and my chance of a win was gone. However, if Evil hadn't had to serve a S&G for a jump start, I think he would have caught and past us both.

Commiserations to Will, it looked like a dream result for Team Tobo was on the cards until you had a crash at the hairpin. Next season you will be very hard to beat Wink

Glad to hear it was a good race Phil.

I like this track and sadly missed tonight due to the usual family stuff.  Dangerous place though.

hope everyone had a good time.

Thanks everyone, this season has been awesome.

Would have been great to end it with my first win after my first pole position. Looked like it had my name on it had I not been taken out late on in the race by a back marker. The track is one of my favourites and I felt totally hooked up, and with Dad and Phil a little way behind me I was certain I had it in the bag  Embarrassed
Anyway, hopefully my time will come in 2024.

Looking forward to racing you all again next year!  Grin Cool

I've just had a look at the replay to see what happened to Will. Very very unlucky mate! The yellow flags should have alerted you to a problem ahead but even if you had seen them and slowed down I'm not sure you could have done anything to avoid a collision. It is a very dangerous part of the track which was confirmed in the real race in 1975. Having to wait for the whole field to pass before you could perform a reset must have felt like an eternity.  Cry

Can't blame the backmarker, they were having their own accident and they were a passenger when the collision occurred. Just very unlucky, but nobody got hurt and everyone is still alive Wink

Lap three in the corner headed to the back straight, I got a little sideways trying avoid contact with the car ahead leaving the car behind with no were to go. The contact rolled me over and I had to wait for the entire field to pass before I could reset putting me DFL! Managed to work my way back up to the position I started, with some good racing along the way. Thanks for the race all!

Sorry Tom, it was me behind you but as you say I had nowhere to go. I was the lucky one, the GPL gods smiled on me. It could easily have been me that was catapulted skywards. I lost a bit of time but I don't think I suffered any damage.
