Season 43 – 1967 F1 – Round 8 – Privateers  - Rouen
For the 8th and final round of the 1967 F1 Privateers championship we visit Rouen in France. From its opening in 1950, Rouen-Les-Essarts was recognized as one of Europe's finest circuits, with modern pits, a wide track, and spectator grandstands. The circuit (which ran on public roads) had a few medium straights, a cobbled hairpin turn (Nouveau Monde) at the southernmost tip, and a few blind corners through a wooded hillside. The appeal was greatly enhanced by the climb from Nouveau Monde at 56 metres to Gresil at 149 metres.

I trust that there is complete agreement that the pit lane, well marked with a solid line, is NOT to be used as a passing lane, especially when the green flag drops.

Unfortunately will miss the last race of the season.

I have a work meeting on Monday meaning I have to travel Sunday. Ironically I will be in France - not Rouen, but close enough.

Double shame because I have a pile of unused tokens.

Good luck to the runners - especially the Black Night Racers.

For the gpl rookies I looked in my archive for some of the old school setups that are lost in the track database.

These setups were gold for me as they give the gears and balance the best driver used,
Masaki Asano used Greger Huttus setups and made them less agressive  Wink

oups
I copied the 65 setups too, so be carefull wich to use - not ma65! Roll Eyes

Header failure on lap 6, such a shame  Embarrassed Maybe I should've picked a different car instead of he BRM.

I was enjoying the event, despite not having the pace I wanted. Looking forward for the new season.

Bad luck chased me, the lag increased and took me out on the last lap.

Congratulations to the winner and the podium.
Greetings.

Shame about the breakdowns Fran and DT..

so sorry you had problems Bernie.  I was doing my best to chase you and it was great fun, but I think the tyres got a bit hot and I touched the grass on one occasion and had a spin too. you were going really well mate.

I thought the lotus was might have been fast enough, but no chance to catch the Eagles.

anyway did a 2.02 which wasnt bad.  looked back on GPL rank and 20 odd years back was doing 1:58s in the Lotus... LOL.  even managed a 1:59 at Rouen in the Cooper.

congrats Eric, and the rest of Pods n finishers. the 67s were a decent season for me. should have done more races.

heres to next season.

Lag was bad for me tonight as well for a short while. at one point all of the cars around me disappeared for at least 3 or 4 seconds.

when the cars came back I had been overtaken... LOL.

well, thats my excuse anyway.

Another fun but incomplete race for me.... Roll Eyes

Qualed 4th with race fuel ( I still don't know whether to trust the gallons/laps indicator, so I put 30 laps worth in... where's XD when you need it)
I got a better run out of courbe de l'etoile and passed Eric B before Gresil, and was maintaining 5 secs~ to Pepe H up front for a couple of laps
I assumed he was sandbagging, and would put some speed on and dissapear up the road, but the gap came down to 4 secs, and then he went grasstracking
out of T1 and then parked it? didn't look to have hit anything hard, steering perhaps. I was thinking maybe I could win this (I didn't know pepe had parked it then)
I was pulling away from Eric slowly when I went into Samson too fast and spun, (excuse 265=I was using a looser/faster setup than I had been) and lost the back end
recovered up the grass banking without getting in anyone's way, and chased after Eric who had just sailed past, caught at Paradis and went left to pass, but
lost the motor, probaby same reason as before - I couldn't hear my engine over his, also spinning the car back the right way in Samson did some over revving
which probaby didn't help

Ah well, I will finish one soon... angel

This was by far the best season that I've had in UKGPL, despite finishing third overall in the standings and having completed only half the races. I took the pole three times in six tries (with a second at Mexico) and won Ain Diab from pole to pole, something I'd never done before. But we all know that for a championship season you not only have to finish races but to do so consistently and well. I clearly failed to do that.

This evening I had a PB to take the pole, led four or five laps, and then missed the entrance into T1. In trying to recover, I over-revved the Lotus engine and produced more smoke than speed as a result of my inept efforts. I'd had a five-second lead, but I knew from on-line practice that Matt had the talent to overtake me if I couldn't keep him behind me, and overtake me he promptly did. I retired with a blown engine. Still, I've had worse efforts and worse seasons. I'll look forward to calmer waters in the season to come.

Cautious start expecting a pile up at the hairpin then some great racing with Paul V & Hallu who swapped places a few times , had a spell in P4 (mostly down to others misfortunes ) then around Lap 8 something in my wheel went bang  ! the FF had F'd itself just as I was entering the downhill right after the pits , this led to a wall of death ride on the grass bank allowing my protagonists to go by . Settled down to the race again after adjusting for the "new" wheel settings . I think I was P5 when the track decided I was doing to well and discoe'd me .

Love this track , it always seems to give great racing .

Thanks to all for the fun & games .

You are right to doubt the fuel/laps indication in the GPL setup. From memory, I think that it is based upon the Brabham(?) and is even then only 95% accurate depending on gear ratios used etc. For the thirsty Eagle V12 and the climate killing Honda v12 it would be wise to add an extra 30% if you want to be sure of seeing the flag. I usually do a run with maybe 5 laps indicated and see where I run out during practice, then do the maths. OR.....if you are very confident and very sneaky you can save a load of fuel by slipstreaming and short shifting until the final laps and then pounce lol.
