SEASON 44  -  1967 F2    PROFESSIONALS         Round 2  -  Rouen

From its opening in 1950, Rouen-Les-Essarts was recognized as one of Europe's finest circuits, with modern pits, a wide track, and spectator grandstands. The street circuit (which ran on public roads) had a few medium straights, a cobbled hairpin turn (Nouveau Monde) at the southernmost tip, and a few blind corners through a wooded hillside The appeal was greatly enhanced by the climb from Nouveau Monde at 56 m (184 ft) to Gresil at 149 m (489 ft), with gradients over 9%.Rouen hosted five Formula One French Grand Prix races, the last one in 1968 resulting in the tragic burning death of Jo Schlesser, at the fast downhill Six Frères curve. The circuit continued to host major Formula 2 events until 1978, after which it was used for various French Championships.

Thanks all for a great first race with the ‘Professionals’  Cool

Not much to do for me as my Lola couldn’t compete with the others on the straights and I was on my own for most of the race.

Thanks for having me in this category and see you at the next one  Smiley

There is something about these F2's that generates tremendously close racing and allows some epic duels.

Last night at Rouen it was a 4-way battle from start to finish. Tris, Alain, Enrique and myself all running at the same pace for lap after lap. It became clear after the first hectic laps that no-one was going to be allowed to escape the battle as the slipstream was just too strong. A mistake would probably decide the outcome.

Tris and Alain were having a real fight up ahead and I decided to sit back, just a little, and wait for what appeared to be the inevitable contact. But they proved themselves to be truly PRO drivers and I do not recall a single contact between any of us??  Grin

My plan was to wait and use the slipstream at the end of the race to try and steal a position, or maybe 2?. Alain made a small mistake that allowed me to take 2nd spot, but also lost me 50 mtrs to Tris just when I wanted to be right on his tail. Enrique dropped back over the last 2 laps but was never far away and the gaps as we crossed the finish were probably as close as when we left the grid!!!  Still smiling about it all.  Grin

As the Evil One ( Grin) said, there is something special wabout these cars.

I had much fun, even though I was not able to challenge top 4. Actually I had a decent pace during the first third of the race and was able to stay behind them in about 3-4 seconds. Unfortunately for me, as the cars went lighter, I was not able to improve the lap times, which was surprise for me.

Now as I lost the leaders, I had to drive flat out everywhere to stay ahead of Axel, Pete and Fulvio. The first two were clearly faster, but they both made mistakes fighting me, so I was lucky. Fulvio had my pace, however, he had to start few position behind me and lost some time in the opening laps.

I was always taking a look at the standings, as the battle upfront seem to have been awesome.

A decent start to the championship and P3 in the standings now. But I need to save some tokens soon.

Grats Tristan, Alain and Clive.

As evil said, this mod is tremendously competitive, I loved the race in itself, despite the overtaking being very difficult, respect was a great example among the first 4 of us. Wink
3/4 of the race was epic, if not the entire race, 22 laps of pure adrenaline, which didn't even let me blink, fabulous, I reiterate, I have always said, for a long time, I run to have races as well as the from yesterday, if victory comes, then welcome, but if I come in any other position, after a battle of galdiadores and without blood, I consider myself victorious, excellent job guys on the podium. and one of the best races of my life, thanks to you... angel
I hope it repeats itself more often.

A splendid punch-up for the lead, chaps.  Well done to all and that there was no aggro.

A good run for me in the BT14.  I noted that top end on the back straight was 153mph when on my own but when the leaders caught me to me a lap down, I got a lovely tow and saw a cool 161mph.  Lordy!  Only one retirement; bad luck, Axel.  Caught sight a few times of Colin who was having some difficulty finding his sea legs around here but ultimately, got it together to pull away.  Entries down somewhat from round #1.  Hope to see a resurgence in those numbers at Killarney.

Hello, it was indeed a great fight, in the wake of aspiration game Wink ....it was clear that everything was going to be decided in the last 2 laps....Alain's little mistake certainly made my work easier, also delaying Evil... with a 100m lead at the entrance to the back straight, it was won !
thank you guys for this great battle and see you next time...let's do it again Wink
thx all for racing & Org. .....Wink

What a great race, but it could and should have been better. I started qualifying in the wrong Matra, I'd been practising in the faster MS7. My pace was pretty good so I didn't give it a second thought. It was only when I disconnected from the server to change my Nvidia settings a bit that I realised I was in the MS5. A couple of laps in and I tapped Enrique at the hairpin. Karma got me at the next left hander as Enrique tapped me into the haybales. No hard feeling - a racing incident IMHO. this put me at the back with a red mist over my eyes. A few too many mistakes but good battle with Fulvio. I was quicker than DD but made a stupid mistake and threw away a P5. Super close finish at the end thanks to a tow over the line.

F2 racing is fantastic. Long may this last.
